I said if we play to our absolute best and you allow us to do, we will win.

If you limit Judd......we wont be playing out best....see how that works?
Beat Judd, Murphy and Scotland and you will be in a good seat to win the game :).

You said 'Swans worry me but I think we will win regardless'. Do you understand what the term regardless means? It means that despite our best efforts you will still win. You're now backtracking rapidly either because you've realised how idiotic a comment that was to make, or because you realised that this will actually be a close game even IF you play at your best.

Given our big man form its time for the Swans to go bigger given that in fact Carlton is now a big side with a lot of marking power as well as speed. Remember that our successful grand final side had 2 big rucks plus LRT at CHB and was still a quick side. Also, I don't think any of us appreciated how good Seaby is until after the superb display against Richmond. All of our bigs have good tanks as well and will take some keeping up with.

Lack of tackling pressure from Jetta and or TDL to me puts them out of the picture as key nullfying players. AJ , Goodes or even Reid can play midfield. Tactically, we could go big or small in the forward line simply by resting the rucks at FF.

I reckon Jameson might find it difficult out bodying the Mummy or Seaby in a marking contest. Strong marking power through the midfield would also be hard to counter.

For final quarter penetration we need to have either TDL or Jetta as sub but one of them will have to go because of the need for tackling pressure throughout the game.

Really looking forward to this game!We seem to be on the verge of "clicking" with confidence steadily building between the players and the constant improvement amongst the newcomers.

You talk about 'that shit doesn't fly' with regards to Seaby being the sub but then suggest essentially having a third ruckman in LRT as the sub?? Against a running team like Carlton we need all the speed we can get. Jetta as the sub, LRT out of the team for Mumford. Or else Jetta out of the team for Mumford and TDL as the sub.

I don't see LRT in the sub role as being a specialist ruckman, though. It would equate to the same thinking the Coaching staff showed when they put Everitt in as a sub. Basically he's a tall who can pinch hit now as Ruckman, Key Defender, or Defensive Foward/Forward target.

The pace issue is exactly why Seaby should not be the sub.

Mummy for LRT is definitely an option. My worry is that if Mummy and Seaby both start they will likely tire late in the game. Carlton's talls can kick goals and are very mobile. They will definitely aim to blow our boys up. This wouldn't usually be a problem for Mummy. But Seabs is still a fraction underdone, and Mummy is coming off injury. So having LRT help out late in the third qtr onwards wouldn't go astray.

I concede the risk in cutting TDL for Mummy is that we'll likely need more goals from our midfield, though. And against Carlton that is a major problem.

I do think we should find a spot for LRT in the side. Especially with Kruezer back in. TDL's work has been good, but he's not undroppable yet.

It's an interesting problem to have.

Interesting post. I agree with your points, but they do suggest a Carlton advantage. Your brownlow medalist is looking like adding a 3rd while ours is being played out of position and has looked frustrated for the last few weeks.

I'd say this game is alot more important to Sydney at this point. A loss would be a set back for you guys, but for us it would pretty much leave us out of touch with the top 4 (especially with Collingwood coming up next). You've got two 5-8 teams coming up, we've got 2 top 4 teams.

Essentially, this is an 8 point game (as are our next games). It's half way through the season, we've both got important players who have come back recently. It's time to stake our claims as legitimate flag contenders with this one, the loser will take a significant hit to their aspirations, but the Blues are in the box seat right now, it's up to us to overthrow you. Hopefully we both make the top 4 and Hawthorn drop out.

..i think KJack is the best player to play on Judd, has the ability to do more than simply negate Judd, but can beat him and run off him to be an attacking option as well.. ..possible fitness doubts but with part of a game under his belt he could be good to start on him, and be switched if needed as the game unfolds.. ..Goodes is always a threat, he's far too good a player to ever be 'off the boil' for long.. ..he's a difficult matchup and much like Judd, when he's on fire he simply can't be stopped..

..i've got a feeling that it's gonna be another close finish.. ..and not just an arm wrestle type game.. ..but like earlier this year and last years final, that brutal punishing kind of game that will leave the players sore for the next week..

Unlike your Carlton Crony, your posts make a lot of sense and make for an interesting read. You can keep posting here. :thumbsu:

I actually have a feeling this could be high scoring, like most of our games at Etihad against you guys. I have a feeling Carlton will come out of the blocks strong but Swans will claw it back by quarter time and then go goal for goal for most of the match. Kind of like the NM game a few weeks back but hopefully we won't give you guys as much of a head start as we gave them.

Does Sportsbet know something we don't?...

Caaaarlton 1.27
Swans 3.80

Not surprised Carlton are firm favorites, lets face it we haven't been playing great footy. Those are some pretty juicy odds for Sydney though, might take a nibble at that.

I think playing this game at Ethihad will actually be an advantage to us, as our gameplan this year and the way we switch to create space is much too easily stopped on the SCG.

I assume the roof will be closed if there is rain so that should work in our favour as well... last time we failed to adjust to changing conditions, first of all playing badly in the wet, then adjusting to playing wet just as it started to dry up.

Hopefully Jack can run out the full game on Judd this time, that will go a long way to nullifying his influence.

I think we MUST play Goodes in the centre, the last 2 games against Carlton he has been well held by Gibbs on the half-forwardline, get him in the middle winning his own ball where if Gibbs does get the ball it is in traffic and he can't find space or time to hurt us with good disposal on the rebound.

I dont agree with dropping Jetta, realistically we have 1 too many offensive backline players, and whilst none of them have technically been in bad form it is simply a reflection of depth.

Smith to go to Betts again, he will be disappointed in letting Betts get free out the back a few times last game, don't expect to see that happen again.

I wouldn't be putting my hopes in a makeshift full forward to beat Jamison, I think we'll probably be content to play him similarly to the way we played Merrett, keep him away from contests back in the goal square.

I see us in with a real shot for this game, there isn't that much between our sides and as mentioned in another thread, this will show us exactly where we are, win and a top 4 spot is realistically possible, lose and it will be hard to see us finish above WCE (who have an extremely cruisy run home) Carlton or Hawthorn, and could see us slip as low as 7th given we have a few tough games to come.

who made you the boss?

Was going to say the same thing.

Been accepted and got PM's from around half the boards from posters asking me about information about paticular players.

Didnt word a paragraph right, and he jumps on it.

Im great mates with Dan Hannebery, any chance you want to send him back down to Victoria, cos hes loving the Sydney way of life way to much :p.

some are a bit precious about oppo supporters posting on our board, I for one welcome it and couldnt give a shit how rude you wanna be (not saying you were), I love banter. We gonna smash your mob of tanking cheats this week.

Yer i know.

Loving the last part, we will see if the tanking was worth it :p.

On what line do you guys think you've got the upper edge on us?

All I heard last time we played is that Carlton were lucky we caught the Swannies in the wet - perhaps its for that reason I feel far less confident this time around.

I still feel we gained traction (so to speak) when the SCG drained out after the half time break but now we're on a flat deck (with similar dimensions/ratio to the SCG) and I feel that if you get the jump on us early, you've certainly got the steel to dig in and hold us off.

Very cautious of what O'Keefe and Goodes can do to us, as well as someone of White's ilk.

But my biggest question is on your lock-down small defenders.

That is not at all what the term means, by the way.

In fact even given the context, that is not what it means.

Precious...
Carlton should definitely start favourites but I thought they'd be closer to 1.50-1.60.

Might put 50 on us this week.
Definitely too short to start off with.

But my biggest question is on your lock-down small defenders.
Smith is probably our only small lock down type. Then we have a fair few mediums with Kennelly, Mattner, Shaw, Johnson etc.

Smith to Garlett since his in the best form at the moment of the smaller types.

Walker is the tricky matchup. Possibly Johnson/Mattner for him. Grundy and Ted will have to deal with Henderson, resting ruckmen, Waite etc. Although Johnson might have to help out if 3 talls are roaming the forward line.
