I was hoping Murph got up, but you can't play anyone vs GWS that isn't 100%

I was having a look into some match ups, thoughts?

Curnow vs Shiel
Gibbs vs Coniglio
Cripps vs Ward
Tuohy vs Greene
Rowe vs Patten
Plowman vs Cameron
Daisy vs Williams
Wright vs Shaw

Some great duals all over the ground, just a shame Mummy is under done for the Kruez match up

Who do you have on Lobb ? And for that matter on Scully ?

Yep win win trade.

Though given the form of the 4 guys for us this year, I'm surprised we got them for just pick 28 and that no other team seemed to be interested...I know they all had injury issues but they haven't missed too much this year.

Plowman himself is probably worth pick 28...did no other club show any interest in a young and talented defender?

The package deal was a salary dump - Lamb was on a very very good contract and he wasnt delivering on the park.

Basically, you took a million a year off our cap, and we gave you Plowman.

We have Simpson and Downie for that.
We do indeed. If we are that short on tall forwards just need Lobb focussed on that role was my point. One option I wondered about was Lobb in the ruck but not with that team bal.

Fantastic question, Weitering may get first crack at Lobb if he starts forward, if its a wet day we may try our luck with a smaller player like Everitt and try to hurt him on the rebound.

Scully is tough, I'd nearly throw Wright out at him, but he may not have wheels which would make Kerridge the better option.

Either way, getting the match ups right will cause head aches all over the field, hopefully we play like we did against Geelong because if the mind set that was present vs sAints is present then it won't matter what the match ups are!!

Still no word on Davis? If he is out do we bring Tomlinson in down back or give Patton more time down there? Do we blood Finlayson?
I just saw the update that Davis had been given the all clear following scans (but is listed as test). Mumford and Johnson also listed as test for their respective injuries.

Yep just saw that on Twitter then :thumbsu:. If Marchbank is indeed gone at the end of the year I would love to see finlayson get his chance at some point this season and thought this could be the game without throwing him in the deep end.

Let the other two rest. I'm not a big fan of downie but his work in the ruck wasn't the reason the bombers game was so close

Keys for this week are an improved effort from the midfield group and better ball use coming out of defence
Another big test with a fresh carlton and Giants of a hard game and a 6 day break
Need Davis for this one and I can see a couple of fresh midfielders stepping in

I think to freshen the side up a bit, maybe Palmer and Steele for Reid and Hopper - extra day's break and some stellar NEAFL form.

Not that Reid or Hopper have done anything wrong, but Reid hasn't done a lot and Hopper is only young and a bit of management might be in order.

I think Reid has done plenty. Would be harsh to drop him. I'd like to see anther week of him at least

Yet again I've come round to your point of view. Will propably disagree again but will review your posts more carefully in future

Reid:
Vs Swans: 12 disposals @ 58% efficiency, 4 tackles, 1 inside 50, 1 goal 1 behind
Vs Bombers: 13 disposals @ 46% efficiency, 2 tackles, 1 inside 50, 1 goal 2 behinds

"Plenty" is not a word I'd use. And I also said he'd not done a lot wrong, but given Palmer, who plays a similar sort of role, over the two same period has...

91 disposals, 14 tackles, 18 inside 50s, 6 goals 1 behind

I think a recall might be in order and Reid is the obvious choice.

There's no way you can compare NEAFL stats to AFL stats ever and posting them "over the same two week period" is terrible analysis. Palmer might warrant a recall but he was only averaging a possession more and a tackle less per game on the year over Reid. He was also killing the team momentum every time we went forward through him because of his failure to look for quick options after a mark, followed by a 20 metre jog back.

I know NEAFL is not the same as AFL - there'd have to be a discount on the figures - but even if it's a 50% discount, it's still marginally Palmer. I can see these two swapping in and out for the rest of the year. Both tear it up at NEAFL, both are average (compared to the rest of the talent we have) at AFL level. Neither are best 22 (that's Devon).

I'm not a big Palmer fan - never have been - and I love the Sam Reid Story of perseverance, of second chances, of redemption and guts and determination and would be happy to see him stay in, but Palmer's form (albeit NEAFL) shouldn't wholly be ignored either.

I'm saying you can't even compare them at a discounted rate. You can only compare AFL form to AFL form. You can decide whether or not a guy deserves to be promoted based on NEAFL form, and whether or not a guy deserves to relegated based off AFL form, but using any kind of comparison between the two levels is fundamentally flawed for several reasons - the standard of competition and the different roles being played (I have no doubt Palmer played through the middle with those stats, whereas Reid is locked up forward in the seniors) at a minimum.

I'm not really debating the result (at the moment I have Palmer, Steele, Reid and Kennedy all fairly interchangeable in the role that is Smith's and Stevie J's once they're back, so whichever is in is largely academic) but pointing out that the process is flawed.

It's going to be a tough few weeks for Leon and some hard conversations to be had. The cavalry is coming back but we can't play everyone - some will need to make way.

Mumford, Stevie J and A.Kennedy likely back this week with Steele, Palmer and a few others banging on the door in the NEAFL. I would expect Mummy and Stevie J straight back in for Downie and Reid. Adam Kennedy to build up fitness in the twos.

But then after the bye, Apples, Marchy and Smith all expected back. No obvious candidates to make way for them at this stage so some tough decisions ahead

Would finlayson to come in and play an excellent debut game so that we get more complaints our access to the Riverina and gettin first dibs on him when zero teams bothers to bid

Very strong ins. Over 500 games experience brought into the side should steady the team. Also happy to see that Davis is fit to play!

Mumford v Kreuzer is a crucial battle he must win to ensure we can hurt Carlton on the spread rather than chasing tail. Also we seem to play so much bigger with mummy on our side.

Palmer should contain cartons rebound and hurt them on the scoreboard as well. His size and experience will only be a good thing for us.

Stevie J is back!!! Need I say anything about this??

Never been so confident about a group on INs
