Even Kingsley seems deflated - said “not much we can do” as they interviewed him as he walked back to the rooms at half time
I was about 20metres away, I thought he looked angry. I know we have to try to win, but also not lose too much percentage. Swans could end up 21-2 or even better this season, so losing to them doesn't actually hurt our finals chances that much.

That was in response to what’s the next lever you can pull. His focus is on changing our contest work… which was embarrassing. HH and Ash’s non communication was horrendous. Then we gave away so frees in front of goals, Ash chipped a ball up which ended in a goal to them, and GRU dropped an absolute sitter… he looks so nervous.
All the confidence dropped out of them after those gift goals. Swans smelt that and put their foot down.
Need more composure. Hopefully Cogs, Cumming and Perryman back next week.

How disappointing is this lame effort in a cross town Derby, I was hoping GWS would give Sydney a good go, Even the useless Crows were competitive for 2 and a half quarters last week. I'm starting to wonder if GWS will even play finals.
Sam Taylor is a big out. He provides poise.

Raining again. I'm hoping we don't surrender.

Important that we kept that scoreline respectable, as this could have been an unrecoverable weekend.

A laughably clueless VFL umpire insisting that Hogan take a late free kick from directly behind the point post perfectly captures the comical state of this Victorian pub league.

We’re definitely in poor shape for 2024, but we are not completely out it just yet.

Cogs a much needed return next week.

Will be interesting to see how South fare if and when they finally experience some injuries.

I'm so flat after that performance.
Even before this game there was a mountain of evidence that we’re not a particularly good team this year. I’d be shocked if we make the 8 from here to be honest.

Just hope one of the better teams catch fire and humble the Swans in September.

The game was lost in the second qtr. The momentum was completely given away with mistakes. I counted 3 goals directly resulting from them, I might rewatch later.

The loss was on the players, not the coach nor the game plan. The gulf between us and them are about 20 points. Our skill errors were not that bad given the greasy circumstances, such as dropped mark or incomplete passes. However they were so disciplined with minimal errors that they pounced when we erred. Nothing Kingsley can do about that.

Taylor was a big loss. But Aliir was tremendous imo. He kept Joel very quiet.

Kingsley has to blood youngsters due to injury and this is important in the long run. Well done to Max!

Bedford was superb.

Another positive is filling the club coffer with the visiting Swans fans. Thank you making a trek across the Anzac Parade 😉

What is frustrating me is the same errors being made week in, week out.

Slow kicks giving the opposition time to either spoil or intercept.

Blind handpasses that do not go to a team mate or put them under immediate pressure.

The lack of shepherding/blocking when we have the extra player.

There doesn't appear to be the urge for the second (or third) effort.

Something I noticed throughout the game was that instead of taking possession of the ball when it was on the ground, the Swans would often kick it or belt it forward - unlike GWS who constantly tried to pick the ball up. Wet conditions = field position. Just get the damn ball forward.

For Gruz v Cadman (and I guess that's what it is) - Gruz seemed to have a better game-sense. His positioning for the second goal getting goalside of his direct opponent was excellent.

Ash and Himmelberg = coach killers. Their disposals constantly put their team mates under pressure.

So, now that I’m finally home, fed & somewhat dried out my thoughts.

Apart from the second quarter we kicked 10:7 to their 8:9 so we can definitely hang with them - and they are clearly the best team in the league. We put a 4 qtr performance together against them & it’s a completely different ball game. So it’s not all together doom & gloom.

The bounce of the ball was really not with us tonight. Everyone was fumbly in those conditions, trouble is when we fumbled it wound up in the hands of a swan, when they fumbled it wound up in the hands of a swan. When we spoiled it ended up with the swans, when they spoiled it ended up in the hands of a swan. Pretty much every ricochet ended up with a swan regardless of who it came off. At least that’s what it looked like to me.

We all know that the umpires hate Toby but I want to know what Jesse Hogan did to piss them off because every game lately there’s at least 3 or 4 arm-chops or pushes or grapples that go unpunished.

Gru did all right on debut (one dolly dropped mark aside) I think he plays again next week at least. Cadman kicked 2 in the VFL but didn’t really dominate.

our pressure game is very patchy, way to many times they were able to move the ball without us getting near it. No idea how many times I asked “who’s on him?” when a swan got the ball in wide open space and then passed to to another swan in wide open space. Man up FFS.

Wasn’t expecting to win, wasn’t really expecting to get close but was still frustrated with large chunks of our game because I know we’re better than that.

Oh well - on to Adelaide in Adelaide and we’ll see how we go.
