I feel like the 2nd qtr was a lot of our skill and decision making errors but at the same time we should be coaching in a way to stop the momentum. Briggs was getting a bath but the most disappointing part was Grundy running fwd and Briggs ball watching. The call should of been made, compete the ruck contest and then follow him everywhere. Rowbottom had 11 clearances and had been their clearance machine in the fortnight before this, we paid him no respect at all and it's an area we have beaten in most of the year. The Whitfield tag is a weekly event now, as soon as Pez and Cumming are back he has to go up the ground. Swans are flying, there were plenty of positives to take out of this given the side we fielded.

What to do with Ash. Surely his kicking must improve.
He is one player I hope asks to be traded at years end, perhaps to Hawthorn, St Kilda.

Take a deep breath everyone. We are actually going alright. 6 loses so far this year and 4 of them are to the teams in the top 4.

A bit like the game against the cats where the cats start to the game they were slotting them from everywhere which wasn’t sustainable and it proved to be the case and we ran over the top of them.

The swans second quarter was very good but everything went their way and they took advantage. Statistically we were going fine and have time to tighten up our game to be able to stop it in finals.

The swans had to play their very best to beat us and they won’t get any better. They have had a sweet run with injuries and mills or Parker won’t improve them much if at all cause they are already playing so well.

Outside of that patch in the second out transition defence was the best it has looked all year. Taylor, perryman and cogs will adds a lot of experience to stop those opposition runs and cogs going out of the side has really affected our entries into 50 and our attacking numbers have dropped since he got injured.

Still think we are right in this premiership race.

We'll still be at least 6th after the end of the round which is a positive.

If Freo win, they move from 10th to 5th. GWS move to 6th.

If Gold Coast win, it depends on the margin as they are currently 2.6% behind us.

A tight Gold Coast win might see GWS stay in 5th.

A draw and we stay 5th - no change from last week. Odd eh?

Having those early wins in the season are proving to be vital in such a tight comp.

As others have mentioned, second quarter was tough to come back from but I love the fight right up until the very end.

Even in the wet, I found this game much easier to watch than the Bulldogs game in the wet, there has been major improvement there I feel.

In other news, I was incredibly pleased when my league family arrived dressed up in Giants gear. There is genuine interest taking hold within the family, all were getting into the game and the kids were cheering, getting into some of the chants and did some positive shouting which took me by surprise. Seems coming to a couple games and them watching games from home when they have been unable to attend games has really helped.

Kids have led the charge there, parents have nurtured the kids Aussie Rules interest and the parents have now gotten into it too. Very happy Giant YoYo 🥹😀

When the pressure was on we certainly missed the influence of Sam last night. Lets hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Swans are a well drilled unit with a great mix of experience and highly talented young players. Hats off to Gulden has an exceptional work rate and skills to match. Great footballer to watch.

Disposal efficiency is a stat that can be very misleading.

e.g. you'd expect a player who kicks out from a behind to have a disproportionately higher DE as that disposal usually goes directly to a team mate.

For me, it's the disposals that WEREN'T efficient.

What happened? Was it a turnover resulting in a goal?

If a backman had 75% DE from 12 disposals, that means 3 were inefficient.

As a coach, that is what I'd I'd be looking at. Inefficiency related to field position.

Also worth considering that DE can be influenced by the work rate of the players up field the kicker is trying to hit.
Too often our players are having to hit a stationary target. Stagnant play makes turnover easier and can’t be blamed entirely on the kicker.

Spot on.

That adds to my scepticism over the DE stat.

There was a a kick to Riccardi on the forward wing and instead of going to the ball, he stood flat-footed.

Made it easy for the Swans player to spoil.

If Riccardi moved towards the ball, he would have got a front-on contact free.

Player who kicked it though gets knocked down on the DE.

So, moving forward, Gruzewski or Cadman?
I think long term Cadman is going to be better. Gru showing very nice signs to be a handy player. i expect both of them play a lot of footy. They are 2nd year tall forwards. They will both likely improve for at least another 3 or 4 years.

Harsh. He went at 85% efficiency with one turnover which is excellent. Very important player who will take the game on and attacks.
people are extrapolating the one kick that led to a goal to him missing his targets all night.

When I went home thought he had a shocker. When I watched the replay last night, he had 2 really bad moments. That kick, and the miscommunication with Himmelberg.

Other than that he hit some very nice kicks to the middle and switches. He also started some some nice chains through the middle.

he had 2 bad moments it happens.

I think he is an important player on rebound.

Ash has been solid all year and I don’t think is in any danger of losing his spot.

If he is being dropped then what’s the alternative 🤷 we don’t have anyone that plays that role within the system better than him that isn’t already in the team ie Whitfield.

Attacking players will always make mistakes due to the risk the coaches permit them to take. Risk / reward

Cads is trending better than any second year key forward that I can think of in recent years.
My concern is Gru. He is so undersized for the role that is trying to play. He doesn’t have great agility or speed and doesn’t have a huge leap.
He does give an honest attack at the ball and is a reliable set shot.
If it doesn’t work out, I think that was about a pick 20…? At the time I found it to be a baffling selection.
I hope he turns out great… to me, the best version is perhaps something similar to Tim Membrey… maybe a slightly better lead up mark, but not as good at a standing vertical mark, which Membrey was very good at.

I agree. We shouldn't be put off by Vic Metro boys wanting to stay home, but on the other hand we look bad if they leave after 2 years.
It will take a while to tell, Cadman might be a better player than sheezel and wardlaw, we should have just kept pick 3 and taken whoever of the 3 didn't go at 1 or 2.
We didn't know just how improved Hogan and to a lesser degree Riccardi would become.

We are effectively 8 and 5 ( as everybody loses one game to swans).
Having said that, we will finish top 6 provided we have an above average run with injuries from here on.
I think even Kingsley sounds not as confident as he once was.

Other young key forwards:
Amiss 19 goals
Van Rooyan 17 goals
Max King 19 goals
Tod Marshall 20
Logan Mcdonald 21
Cads 17 goals

I think he is going well for his second year. He does spend large periods of the game on the bench.
Is that how many goals they kicked in their second season?
