Yeah last week they had:

Neale - 29 disposals, 16 contested, 10 clearances, 7 tackles
Ashcroft - 23 disposals, 16 contested, 9 clearances, 4 tackles
McInerney - 18 disposals, 13 contested, 8 clearances, 6 tackles
Dunkley - 28 disposals, 15 contested, 4 clearances, 8 tackles

And they regain McCluggage who's been pretty good inside this year too.

Feels like the sort of midfield that wipes our lads out.
Windhager to Neale, Paton to Ashcroft. McInerney gets set up for the kick-ins down the line, a nice jump and a Stephen may style spoil early should make his night uncomfortable while staying within the rules. If we stop letting the opposition do as they please we should be a chance against anyone. Have a look at what port did to Stewart last week, that’s what I want to see tonight.

I watched the Brisbane-Hawks game a couple of weeks back and the Lions were very ordinary. Makes me think this game is winnable. Admittedly that was at the MCG but the Lions are a different specie away from the Gabba. My biggest concern is Cameron. If we can contain him we are definitely a chance. Not confident that Paton can get the job done though. If not him, who do we go with?

Surely Webster gets the job first

Really think we need Windy to go with Neale.
Was it our last game against them when he kept Neale (who was in redhot form) to about 13 or so touches? And actually racked up more than that himself.
Did a fantastic job at removing his influence.
Think we lost that game, but cannot fault how well he shut him down.
I’m just thinking that if Steele isn’t 100% maybe he’s better of doing a job on Neale and we let Windy go head to head with Ashcroft.

I think its a great idea but the issue is that we no longer play defensive stoppers on particular forwards. Its all zones and player A moves to cover Player B's man.

The question is if you play Paton as purely a lockdown on Cameron (a job he's done very well in the past) does it throw the rest of the defence out of kilter?

Speaking of defence - is Dougal playing?
Re Paton, I think Webster is a better match for Cameron. Not sure where that leaves Paton.

I think they'd have to have been training him to be part of that midfield though. Clubs don't tend to mix up the backline too much because being settled and in synch are so important in defence. Perhaps we need to start training soon else to take over that accountable back role and start moving him on ball though. An inside extractor would be bloody handy.
Yes, so let him train with the midfielders.

It seemed to work well for Clark rotating back and forth.

It is a year of exploration after all

Agree that he is certainly worth a try but not this season - been training & playing as a back this year and u want as much continuity as possible with the back 7. Stocker has also made real progress this season so let’s just continue to give him confidence in 2023; hopefully trains with the mids next pre season & might be able to add to the group.

hopefully this is the game Steele gets back to his best. I think we are forgetting how good he normally is. Steele has been way below his best since injury and he is normally our best midfielder and up there with the best in the comp. Our midfield will look a lot better once he can get back into form or injuries heal, although rtb thinks he isn't injured
Been talked about a lot in the media. I hope if he's not injured it gives him the required kick up the ass

Being Spud’s game I think it’s only fair we back in Dougal to have a big one 🥔

We just know BigJoeJam the chewing gum chewing MF is going to roost a soul sapping goal from 55 out after we have just kicked 3 points and an out on the full trying to draw within striking distance late in the 4th.

Pre Ross, until he got injured it was always Paton who did the defensive job on the oppo's best small forward.

Paton's problem is that he can't attack AND defend at the same time which is what Ross wants.

I'd give him first crack and say I don't care if you don't get a kick, as long at Cameron doesn't either.
