Autopsy Round 15: Docherty 81 - Dockery 50

What do you guys think about the following? Our current midfield and methods evolved last year mainly second half through cerra AB and serong.Fyfe was not part of it.. that evolution and progress was visible in some good wins last year. This pre season Brodie joined and trained with them and became part of the method and system. Fyfe missed the whole preseason and missed that integration.Again this season first half AB serong Brodie Mundy and other part time midfielders moved further which was completely missed by Fyfe. So that means Fyfe's issue is factored by this absence and lack of cohesion with current midfield and so it is a temporary thing and fixable?

this. I never expected Flagmantle in 2022 tbh. it's been gravy for weeks. we've now nearly won more matches already than our past 2-3 seasons, with 9 left to play.

making finals is a huge W, imo, but a bigger plus is the buy-in and belief being shown by the younger guys, the continuing break out of Young, Clark proving the knockers wrong etc.

get a full pre-season into Fyfe, have a frank and fair re-assessment of his (and Mundy's) roles in '23 + all our youngs coming good = next year we should be a serious contender.
Next season ? We should be looking to this season, when we played our best footy against Brisbane and Melbourne we were formidable.
Are we going waste a year because fyfe can't fit into the machine.
And there is no guarantee there is a next year..footy moves on very quickly.

I do remember being kinda concerend with the stat vs Hawks where Freo were scoring from stoppages and not from turnover. When all year Freo had been doing well off turnover. Wasn't a good shift. Not sure if the blame can soley be dropped at the feet of Fyfe but its not a good look that him entering the team caused this shift...
This is my biggest concern out of the weekend, we've lost our turnover game.

Would rather see him not put his hand up for captain again..
Those 2 brownlows were great but several years of not playing finals and losing far too many top end talents looking uninspired before walking to other teams..

Fyfe needs to become a full time forward. He's not needed in the midfield anymore.

JLo really needs to sort out the midfield and forward line as the current mix don't compliment each other.

Can you really have Tabs, Lobb, Fyfe and Logue* all up forward?

You can't have Fyfe, Brodie and Mundy all playing in the midfield because they can't defend well.

The solution is obvious to me, you drop Tabs and move Fyfe forward. Fyfe returning has upset the apple cart.

Didn’t the weekend prove the opposite? Midfield smashed against bigger bodies proving we do need Fyfe, but we need him in form. Atm he’s not.

We had Fyfe, Mundy, Brodie and Darcy in the midfield and Carlton had Cripps and an undersized ruck. Was the mids smashed for size or pace?
I thought we got towelled up on the outside plus Carltons run out of the back line and their uncontested ball.
JL was outcouched.

Maybe both, but out the middle it’s all about first hands on ball, and I don’t feel like we had first hands on it much all day.
I’m not sure how much pace you need from center bounce clearance. Couple handballs kick forward balls gone.

Agree completely that JLo was outcoached.

We defend corridor mainly.
Hawks and Carlton both went up the line & outnumbered us at ground level. That’s where the pace beat us around the ball.

Sick of people blaming Fyfe. He was one of 15 that had a bad game, but him in the middle isn’t upsetting anything

After Hawks game Sonny warned us that teams will be after us post bye..

We were outcouched, Salim.
Agree JL outcoached, sadly.

Michael Voss admitted after the game, they looked at the round 7(?) loss with a microscope. Said they conducted an external audit on the methods we scored against them. They’ve been planning for this game for a while. It’s a massive compliment.
Lol that club is obsessed with us, f**** off. We should do an external audit of their salary cap

Definitely outside.
They just allowed Fremantle to go in for the first ball- Fyfe going into Darcy’s tap crushing and bashing. Annoying how he tries to be the hero then gets tackled and Fremantle are caugh out. Cripps didn’t win much of the first possession compared to Fyfe.
Pressured the spill and Carlton set up on the outside to handball, kick or run it out. Obviously when that happened, we look slow. Much rather Brodie, Serong and Brayshaw inside because their hand balling is amongst the best in the league. They don’t grab ball, try to fend off then spill- Fyfe is becoming predictable at this. Brody on the other hand is clean at first possession then makes a quick decision to handball outside.

Darcy was so poor in the ruck to allow this. His taps were a negative and against Silvagni he didn’t impose himself whatsoever.

Midfield lose the centre clearances- Fremantle look slow.
Win the clearances- v Melbourne for example in the third quarter. Look like a million bucks and outrunning Oliver, Petracca etc.

Just to be clear, I linked the article because it’s where Voss describes the audit they undertook after the loss.

I think you might be misinterpreting what he said. I take it to mean playing against us was an audit of their system which they used to address their weaknesses which we exploited.
I could be wrong but that’s how it reads to me. Not that they had an external audit as a result.

Yeah Darcy on Silvagni was embarrassing.
Darcy should've rag dolled the campaigner

Darcy wasn’t his usual self.

Listen to him speak, they audited the loss as they felt their system was broken down.
