Why is everyone so negative, we came up 2 points short against the best team who kicked 3 boundary line goals in the last quarter. We are a very good side we will push teams in the finals no doubt

That's what every footy fan dreams of after 11 years of the same coach. Pushing teams in finals. The Crows also came within in 1 point of Collingwood at AO. It means nothing. Winning is all that counts.

Felt like we controlled much of the game. Just left them a sniff with our goal kicking.

I wish Travis Boak was Steele Sidebottom. Alas he's not.

An absolute stinker of a game from Wines. Literally offering us nothing. I called for his head 2 weeks ago and was laughed at but if that game doesnt warrant at least the threat of being dropped than idno what does. Did anyone actually notice him out there tonight?
I noticed him 3 times handball to someones feet. The one Jones ****ed the kick up was a wines handball from 5 m that hit his ankles.. hits the target and who
Knows what happens with the kick..

The mids were not awesome. Adams, Pendelbury, Daicos dominated the last quarter, in particularly the first 5-10 minutes of the quarter where all of our good work from Q3 was undone. As always, our high end players don't deliver when it really matters.

I think it’s harsh on the high end. Collingwood won because some low end Port spuds missed shots for goal and because some other low end Port spuds kicked out on the full or failed to rush a behind. This game doesn’t require much more analysis.

Yep he cant handball to save himself and its a tendency he’s carried for awhile. Really rearing its ugly head atm. We couldve robbed carlton of a first rounder for him a couple years ago but he holds no value now at 29.

So hard to know how to feel about this loss.

Half of me is proud of how we played. We gave it 100%. Could not really have done much more. Collingwood did what Collingwood does which is come from behind, kicked a number of clutch goals and got it done. There's no shame in how we lost tonight.

On the other hand...

We've been here, seen this, bought the tshirt before a hell of a lot over the last 10 years. So many close enough, near enough, shoulda/coulda/if only games that we somehow lose at home despite winning a lot of key statistical parameters. Thats why this stings. It feels no different. It's just another "if only"...

  • Marshall misses from 20 out on a slight angle. Thats the 1/100 he misses
  • Lachie Jones going up to spoil and missing the ball twice. Two goals
  • Lachie Jones somehow kicking the ball at right angles out on the full. Another goal
  • Finlayson missing two snaps in a minute
  • Farrell with the most obvious deliberate of all time. Knock it through the goals ffs
  • Farrell with the sloppiest of sloppy tackles on Daicos 20 out from goal
  • Farrell missing a sitter mark with a minute left

If only one of these things is different, we win.

These are the Ebert smother, the Duursma dropped mark, the Hartlett deliberate that we rue leaving the ground.

The Farrell deliberate. I just don't know what he was thinking there. There's three options the way I saw it:
  • You try and keep the ball in and cop the tackle. You risk holding the ball. Maybe 50% chance it goes against us
  • You knock it through the points and risk deliberate behind, maybe 25% chance it goes against us
  • You clearly knock it over the boundary line. 1000000% it goes against us.

s**t decision making.

Lachie Jones had a great month or so there. But after getting 4 goals kicked on him in about 2 minutes against Carlton, and whatever it is he was doing tonight, he's had a real dirty two games now. You can't fly up for a spoil/mark, completely miss the ball and take out your own player. Twice. Idiocy.

I'm sure i'll get called a simp again but I thought McEntee was ok tonight. His chasing, harrassing and pressure I thought was pretty significant. I think his pressure was definitely worth a couple goals for us tonight. Does Fantasia play better? Maybe. If he doesn't ping a calf. But Fantasia is definitely not chasing like Jed did. Maybe if we had DBJ out there we win.

JHF had some great play in the second half, but his first half stunk. Wines looked 38yo out there tonight. Duursma's opponents in the first quarter absolutely destroyed him but he came back well and played a real solid game. Drew was bloody good, as was Rioli.

Was hoping we either won or lost big. At least if you lose big you know you aren't good enough. Here, it's that pesky ******* grey area again.
It sounds ridiculous but I agree on the DBJ point, actually think he and McEntee work well together. I reckon it's worth an extra goal or two tonight.

Unless he was injured - subbing Lycett cost us
At the point he was subbed off we were down 16 hitouts to advantage to 5 and Darcy Cameron had about 15 touches to Lycett's 5. How exactly did subbing Lycett out cost us? Playing Lycett is what cost us, he's done.

McEntee is a poor man's Jake Neade and Jake Neade couldn't get a game for North Adelaide.

He and Lycett had their little midyear dead cat bounce but they've both reverted back to being the absolute spuds they are. Neither should play again this year.
Prepare to release the Fanta Pants actually maybe wait until the last game in case he gets injured.

I don't really understand Duursma. He's like the most streaky footballer I've ever seen. Either will deliver incredible run and forward entries or he does something completely unskilled like being unable to bounce the ball on the wing in open space in the first quarter.

There is no middle ground with him.

They do deliver. It's the forwards inaccuracy that ****s it up. That game is over at 3/4 time if our forwards and wingers convert but as we know, they never do.

Their mids were outplayed in the third but our forwards didn't punish them. Its not fair on butters, rozee, jhf and drew to continually have forwards that torch their good work.

Or missing an absolute sitter running into an open goal. He feels like a player that came into the league as good as he will ever get. Hard to see any more upside to him than what he currently provides.
