How accurate are these stats? Seems pretty unusual to have such a significant difference between Finn and Moore.
GPS stats are pretty accurate these days, GPS will get you a more accurate speed reading when you're driving than your speedometer will for example.

Generally, wings/HBFs will spread more in attack and defence than a HFF would. Finn also is also a top 3 runner at the club along with CJ and Ward, and they're all better runners than Phillips for example who was the #1 runner for a long time at Collingwood.

If people are choosing to drop Worpel ahead of Shiels, rocks in head

Shiels was horrendous yesterday, the amount of times he ran back into traffic and handballed to players under pressure was numerous

He dropped some simple marks that were unconstested

With straight kicking Worpel would have had at least 3 direct goal assists

He wasnt great, but not the midfielder to drop

Out: Lynch, Shiels, Phillips
In McEvoy, Bruest, Day

Nash Sub

If Day comes in, the reality is he'd probably replace either Finn (Finn was playing Day's best role most of the day) OR Ward/MacDonald because they can still comfortably develop in the VFL - or potentially to rest Ward because he pulled up sore.

Would hate to see any of those things happen, but that's how it'll likely work out.

If you dropped Worpel it would give Finn a look at midfield minutes. His disposal couldn't be any worse than Worpel's and he would at least provide more run.

I agree, I'd be looking at dropping Worpel too. I just don't think it'll happen.

Worps still went to ground a lot, showed a lack of awareness quite a few times and was nowhere near as accountable for his man as he needed to be particularly in the 1st quarter. People talk a lot about Worpel's kicking but I don't think it's as bad as reported, there are other things I find far more concerning from a team point of view.

Are these stats coming from the club GPS trackers though?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that if Port are as decimated as what has been reported then we can cause an upset on Saturday night

Even if not decimated - if they played as calamitously as they did in the second half we would have a shot. I have never seen a team so determined to get in each other's way as Port were on Saturday night.

In McEvoy Bruest Day
Out Lynch Shiels picking the 3rd out is hard. Maybe Morrison just due to day being better than him.

JOM and Mitchell and Worps have played a lot of games together.
Why hasn't there been a synergy developed?
People want to send him to BH after RD 1.
I'de be asking why hasn't these 3 grown together as a UNIT.
We look back to our successful period and the 3 of Lewis, Hodge, Mitchell ...worked in tandem.= amazing players amazing unit
Its been too long now to see Mitchell, JOM and Worp's all play together...but be so individual from game to game.
So we punish Worp ????
I think its time we ask questions if this midfield doesn't click by rd 5-6

Jaeger worried me at times also today but he was playing more of a sacrificial role and was often blocking to allow others to find space. Noticed him doing a lot of work off the ball in the forward 50 that wouldn’t make the highlight reels but did what it needed to.

Mitchell didn’t have a shocker by any measure - just little silly things he does at times it would be great if he could minimise more. Just think Worps might benefit from a game or 2 at Box Hill to freshen up a bit.

Jaeger needs to do more than block. He's our highest paid player. We can get Nash to block and do the unskilled labour. The guys on the big bucks should be doing the things that win us games.

If that was his role as instructed by Sam though then that's what he does. Being at the ground yesterday I noticed Jaeger a lot more than I did Worpel despite their similar disposal numbers. Not saying his game was stellar by any stretch - but I wouldn't be dropping players based on an output:wages basis. Worpel was likely the lowest ranked of the 22 non-concussed we had play yesterday. I think he should be providing more than that and that younger players who performed better on the day shouldn't be dropped before him.

Worpel is our keeper, i doubt Mitchell and O'Meara are both on our list come the end of 2022.

We must give Mitchell and O'Meara game time to try and keep an / or increase there value.

Since were investing in our future Worpel gets more than 1 game in 2022 to do better.

Would like to see Worpel in the middle next to Newcombe, Maginness, Ward and MacDonalds.

That's the thing though - if Day and Breust are back and Worpel stays in the side it would likely be at the expense of one of DGB, MacDonald or Finn you would imagine. I don't see Shiels being dropped after a 25 disposal game - even though I would prefer him to make way for youth players. I think all of DGB, MacDonald, Finn and Ward all had better games compared to Worps - and it's now a bit of a run of poor form coming out of the pre-season. I think he could benefit from the tough love and maybe prove himself again at Box Hill for a couple of weeks and the younger players who are having better games than him should be rewarded for their efforts.

Didn’t someone find at stat that our W-L was really good where JOM and Mitchell both play?

We probably can’t have gotten Port at a better time.

We’d need to improve our skills and connection a hell of lot to snatch this, but I sure hope the boys give it a shake.

Yes, that was me. Omeara the only one of the three players to have a winning record since 2018. As much as he frustrates us with his injuries, he seems to help us win more by just being out there. Must be some sort of magical aura effect 😀

Positives to take into the Port game:
  • We came out strong in the 3rd and finished the game strong, these are really important qualities and things that the good clubs do
  • We had top line pressure, equal highest tackling team on the weekend, equal most tackles I50
  • Even as the undersized team, had the most contested marks and the equal 3rd most marks I50 despite relatively few I50s compared to other sides

Negatives to improve on:
  • Connection, skills and fumbles - we had a lot of wasted chances simply through execution errors and glaring unforced errors
  • Midfield slow starts, better sides will punish us more with the type of domination that North had early
  • Midfield accountability, we're carrying a tendency to let midfielders off the chain for significant periods by not showing up defensively

We probably can’t have gotten Port at a better time.

Regardless of the context, a win away from home against a likely top 4 side, and in some cases tipped to be premiers, would be a massive boost for a lot of these kids. Hope Sam has them primed to get the upset.
