What's displayed pre season in practice matches has never stood the test of time in all the years I've been following footy so I'm really surprised anyone took much notice

Yeah you have mistaken me there. I’m more talking about his pre season as a whole not just the matches. If you asked anyone leading into the season what you would expect of Ashcroft… it would have been slightly higher which I don’t agree is “fair”. That’s not just in him though. His year as a whole will be determined on the players around him. He will be carried by them to a degree
