I think Butler goes out for him if he's fit. Gives you a bit more freedom to rotate the mids and forwards. Butler is too one dimensional.
i dont like going slower, i dont think bytel has the fwd defensive pressure of butler.

i think we need butler in the side

It's not necessarily about going slower, its more about whether he's done enough to keep his spot. Bytel lined up on the wing at points during the game, doing that allows Wood to push forward or for us to play another midfielder forward. I think we can match them in contested footy and playing both Windy and Bytel helps that cause.

Looking forward to the game win or lose. Our defence was good last year and better again with our new game style. Love Marshall helping out down back rather then floating forward. Good times watching the newer and out of favour players putting in. Work rate the best i have seen in years. I think as long as we keep the dogs accountable we are in this.

Butler out for Paton or Windhager my only change.

Only issue with that is that Bytel doesn’t have a lot of places to rotate

So it probably means Gresham or Windy need to play as a full time forward

I was happy with the way we played Gresham yesterday

I wasn't that keen on Higgins or Butler yesterday.. I don't think they worked hard enough. I would bring in Windy if he has recovered and maybe Sharman on the HF line for a little more height and marking ability...Higgins and Butler out.

Windhager for Bytel would be the only change for me. Bytel was ok but another low disposal game and you’d assume Windhager will be playing the role he did on the weekend and will do it better.

Webster was very banged up by the end of the game with blood flowing from the ear and a bad limp. I'd rest him and give Paton a spot in the 22. Drop Butler for Windy. I'd like to bring Sharman in for Cordy but Cordy is good defensive backup against a WB team with a lot of height up forward.

B: Paton, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Sinclair, Battle, Stocker
C: Wood, Steele, Byrnes
HF: Higgins, Caminiti, Hill
F: Gresham, Cordy, Owens

Foll: Marshall, Crouch, Clark
Int: Bytel, NWM, Phillipou, Windhager
Sub: Highmore

Prefer him forward permanently, but happy to be proved wrong.

I have preferred Gresh as a mid who rests forward in the past ... happy to hold off & see what Ross has in mind for him now. If Clark & Windy can give us some zip & class to add to the grunt then perhaps his forward time can increase.

Gresham looked a bit lost at times but what he adds is unpredictability and line breaking. He has always bit off more than he can chew at times but he's a little bit of pixie dust in a very blue collar set up. There was a lot of up and back and often he's the kick that cuts sideways or a stupid act that comes off and break through the defensive wall....then there are the odd ones that are straight up stupid acts that stuff up though.
The bomb inside 50 straight to an opponent when he had a few guys available was a stinker.

The supporters around A30 on L1 & L2 let him know in no uncertain terms.

Hope the boys can bring the same effort to this game.

Membrey hopefully back which will help the structure up forward too
Rossy didn’t sound overly confident anyone else will return other than Windy in the presser last night

Think Membrey is out longer than first thought probably another 2-3 weeks away apparently

What a difference a week makes in football. Last week we were worrying about filling a side, this week we will start to see some pressure on spots. Its going to be interesting if we ever get a full list to chose from this year, there will be huge pressure on players to hold their position in the side.

When we think we still have King, Membrey, Hayes, Jones, Ross, Billings, McKenzie & Coffield to return. Then we will want to get games into some of our kids when they are ready. Hopefully our VFL side will reap the benefits also later in the year as the injured players return. A healthy and competitive VFL side is as important for player development as them playing AFL.

Bytel and Clark both started on the wing a few times

The different combos and sets ups were good to watch

G’day.

Congrats on a great win. A shame I didn’t get to watch it.

Is Ross Lyon using a full-time tagger? Who are the best candidates to do the role? Bytel? Windhager when he’s fit?

I only ask because I used to love it when Ryan Crowley would shut down the oppositions best midfielder when he played under Lyon at Freo. I found it enjoyable to watch when the opposition’s best midfielder struggled under the tag and was noticeably pissed off. Gary Ablett comes to mind (although he still did pretty well).

Would like to see someone go to one of the doggies best midfielders this weekend and shut them down. I just love the tagging tactic. Call it negative… but I think it’s a great game plan.

RTB said last week Membrey out to Rnd 4 or 5

Bytel went to Brayshaw on the weekend and most are assuming Windhager will replace him and go to someone.

I thought quite an interesting play on Sunday was when Milera deliberately put a chaos ball to Gresham one on one against one of Freo’s bigger players. At first I thought the kick was a shank bit then realised what he was doing. Gresh lost the one on one as it turned out, but was closer than a kick to mark situation.

Did not mind it. Did anybody else notice that?

I hope Bytel gets a run at it.
We are never going to get a real handle on Bytel and Byrnes if we don't give them a real crack at it. With injuries to Ross, Billings, Jones etc. there won't be a better chance to find out. Drop them now in the current circumstances and you might as well stamp their papers.
