In what world would Ras be better than Sturt in the fwd line?
I will probably get roasted here but i am yet to see Sturt do anything noteworthy.....not a fan

I personally think he can be a solid piece to the team, but also haven't quite seen the Bayley Fritsch comparison come true yet, he could still very well get there though.

Fyfe did a very good negating job on Heeney last time in getting him to try and wrestle for position in the midfield. They still have weapons in Blakey, Warner and Heeney. Papley can be a matchwinner too.

There's a few others that are quality players too but if those 4 all fire it'll take a complete team performance to beat Swans i.e. a handful of passengers will lose it - and we had quite a few last week that had below 6 out of 10 type games.

I wonder if we've got anyone to tag Heeney - although he may be just as dangerous in their forward line.

Sturt teases, a bit like Simpson has with some elite qualities, but ultimately both seem to lack a couple of essential qualities. Mainly the ability to read the play so as to know where to go to get involved.

If you’re on an AFL list then you should have the fitness & strength to compete but you can’t really teach the kind of intelligence that enables Lachie Neale to rack up 40 touches regularly. Or Pendlebury to see space & opportunities where others can’t. Or Fyfe to so regularly outmark opponents.

Sturt seems to lack any aerial ability and cannot seem to win a ground ball. He doesn’t read the bounce of the ball or sense when to nudge an opponent off it & pounce. The sort of things that are instinctive for Walters.

He can mark on his chest on the lead & kick with freakish accuracy at goal under pressure. He’s elite in this category but sadly probably not enough of the rest of the game.

Similarly Simpson looks a bit like Chad Warner with the ball. Explosive agility and elite disposal but it’s not much good if you have no idea how to get hold of it in the first place. He’s got time on his side but I’m not sure you can teach that part of the game.
Nick Natanui had a good career because of his freakish size & athleticism but he never got any better at figuring out where to go on the field to get involved.
Warner built the other way around. He was a solid player who was taken late in the draft because of his perceived lack of exceptional athleticism but in an elite environment he was able to develop the explosive power we see now.

There's enough in this to show he knows what he's doing, definitely has way more fwd line IQ than Banfield and Ras

Also I wonder how many more chances Mr Amiss has? O mac starting Fwd for Peel this weekend..

I would imagine they’ll give him the derby to find form too even if he fails V Swans. Was out of sorts Pre season too and lacklustre last year.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Draper start sub tomorrow.

No injuries might see Amiss or Voss subbed out and Cox moved forward. If Amiss has a really poor game it could be how we start games until Amiss hits form. Tbh though I think we’d give Amiss as much as another month to find form more realistically. We know what he can do and probably have confidence he’ll do it as soon as tomorrow.

Think McDonald is really only playing forward in the WAFL to allow both Davies and Murphy to develop in their natural positions. If we lose a key defender to injury he probably heads straight back again. Reckon we’d go with Draper if Cox or Pearce gets injured at least initially. If it gets to the point where we need someone else it’s probably down to match ups/form but I reckon there’s a still a decent chance McDonald is picked over Davies.

We must watch a different Sam Sturt, I think he’s great overhead and smart, knows where to go a bit like Luke Breust. He’s good one on one too, and a good field kick.

His work ethic and being injury prone are his weaknesses.

He doesn’t rack it up, but his role doesn’t encourage that, it’s all about damage, pressure and also helping create opportunities for the other forwards. He is certainly a damaging player, pressure is hit and miss.

If he played for a team where most of the midfield could actually hit a target inside 50, unlike Freo, he’d be more highly rated externally.

I'm just hoping we take out Blakeley with a hard tag. He turns the momentum for the Swans. He's blitzed us previously - probably the key as to why Sydney almost won last year, save a poor shot after the siren. Banfield has to sacrifice everything to ensure he does not give them the drive.

Interesting. I think Sturt's biggest weakness is as a contested mark and on the ground. I rarely remember seeing him win one on one, ground or air, his speed gets him separation then he has good hand. And yes he's a good field kick and has good vision and yes he gets burned on the lead a lot. But like you say, we all notice different things.

I will say the one time he got a clear run of fitness and continuity of games at the top level he improved every week so I don't see him as a write off yet but as you say, he's amost never not injured which is probably what will finish him.
