It's the first time I've been to a VFL game since 2015 . I deliberately stood on the fence with my daughter near the interchange for the pies . I've coached at senior level and won flags . In 1991 I was recruited by Brian Ciccatosco to South Fremantle and played a season under Mal Brown with big Craig Edwards ,Marty Atkins ,John Annear and a fresh faced 16 year old kid named Darren Gasper . I've also played in flags in the Geelong league So my understanding of the game and inside knowledge of football clubs has been a big part of my life for a long time . The 3 boys standing with Mayne were not AFL Listed . However they still had on the same jumper I don't blame Mayne for getting frustrated I don't rate him personally but I really hope he does well because I feel he has been given the winning lotto ticket I hope he cashes it in for all our sakes as pies supporters. Mayne was 100 per cent correct in his advice he told the 3 boys we are not protecting the outlets everytime Essendon got possession in Collingwoods forward 50 they switched to the far side of the ground which was unprotected and ran the ball out with ease because the exit points weren't covered . They all seemed to be playing for their own agenda with some smaller groups supporting each other but not the team at whole ! Nathan should stand exactly where I stood then he might understand how to get out of the position he has created for himself. Loved Bucks as a player but he lost me 2 years ago when he stated in a press conference ( It's not my job to motivate players at this level . If they can't motivate themselves they should not be playing at AFL level ) .
Maybe they would have taken more notice if Mayne was out there busting a gut and practicing what he was preaching.

Why is Mayne the one having to tell them that though?

It feels like modern football has far outpaced the average footballers intelligence.

Then who's Fault is it IF we have the Playing List on Different Pages to each other?

Good question. If that's the case then mainly the main coach, assistant coaches, leadership group. And probably overall the club's executive team if they've created an unhealthy place to work.

Thanks for the response. Sounds very similar to the way the seniors set up. We are so vulnerable to the switch because we drive too many numbers to the ball, and too many numbers to the middle. When other teams switch they've spread and stretched the ground lengthwise meaning they more often than not get an uncontested mark or at worst a one on one aerial contest. We, on the other hand, let the opposition defenders roam freely because we refuse to leave our forwards forward, leaving us short of options to go to on a defensive rebound.

while I have nowhere near the experience you do Capt, it's almost common sense the many things witnessed by educated spectators. I'm with you 100% on the motivation comment. I give the benefit of the doubt to anyone, and Buck's may have taken himself out of context by suggesting why he would need to motivate players at the top level. My thoughts are that it's an emotional game and Buckley seems to be far too unemotional, therefore there's no passion in the players, it's all a clinic. We have been surpassed by most clubs in the league. It almost feels like we're a franchise than a club. 80 point losses, after kicking 5 goals in a game, are a disgrace, an embarrassment, a hang your head in shame moment, a.......rabble.

Was talking to my sister in law yesterday, told her Buckley feels more and more like T.Shaw mk2 every day.

What you've described here is not an issue of gameplan, fitness, tactics or training ...

... it's an issue of culture.

Things won't get fixed until the culture is fixed.

Culture is set from the top.
