We would then be lucky to even play in a Prelim let alone win one.

No. We would still be able to wear black and white but would have to lose the Magpie. That was the very first iteration of the Heads of Agreement. As the negotiations with AFL clubs dragged out, we did offer to change our colours as well to get Collingwood's vote.

Hot take here, I love the Pirates suggestion that gets thrown up around here sometimes, but I reckon Power is a better name in the AFL than the Magpies. Having a point of difference from Collingwood is equally important for us and them and for us to make it into the league when no other club outside Victoria could do the same speaks volumes of the absolute dominance and power we had in the SANFL to get the chance to jump up.
