At the moment, playing Gilbert as a third marking forward is not as bad of an idea as playing Gilbert as a key defender.
Its not the worst idea. If anything, he is someone to take a defender so Membrey gets an opponent who isnt a beast especially considering I think Marshall will have to 2nd ruck more this week than when Hickey was playing.

Bit of low key announcement of him playing.
Of course Geary botches the elaborate announcement because he can't hit a target! :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Congrats to Paton, lots of debuts this year which is a positive.

Really? I thought it was funny.
I liked it too joop and I liked his reaction, means something too him for sure and the reaction of all the boys playing bball once they realised what was going on.
Don't kill the buzz, lets get around Patto and young blokes to show a bit tomorrow nite!

LOL - they would have been better giving Paton the ball so Geary could launch himself at him hard, grab him by the waist, pin an arm and slam him onto the ground before getting up, dusting himself off and saying, "You're in Ben".

(Whilst in the background Geary's team has already turned it over and conceded another 3 points).

Sounds like Marshall, Paton & Pierce in for Clark, Battle & Hickey out. Clark apparently crook but may come up for Saturday at Sandy.
Hughey in the squad but not yet finalised so he sounds unlikely.

As unpopular as this would be, I think we need to bring in a Gilbert this week so we have the ability to play two talls plus Membrey in the forward line. Whether that is Carlisle playing forward or Gilbert, as need another target in the forward line because Marshall being the sole true tall is a recipe for disaster.

Not the worst idea, at the very least he would give us some decent forward pressure with his tackling and his goalkicking is no worse than our other forwards.

Geary should have said "if I throw an airball you're in", he would've nailed it then.

Good to see us debut another player though, like Freeman last week it adds some interest to the game for us supporters and god knows we need it.

just quickly... is Paton pronounced Patton (like Mike Patton) or Payton (like Peyton Manning) ????

I feel like it should be Patton but every time I've heard his name they've pronounced it Payton. just want this cleared up so I don't make a fool of myself
Well if he doesn't make it as a footballer he can always look to keep Jake supplied with some new cardies :p

Let’s see if we learnt our lesson from last week.

Saad & McKenna to slaughter us with their pace & carry off half back going forward.

Stringer to torch our defence

Bellchambers to school Pierce in the ruck

Hurley & Nekbeard to intercept 2 out of every 3 inside 50 entries

Think the margin will be our standard 40 point loss, but all I want to see is some in game coaching that works as a positive for us. Shut down their runners off half back, clamp down on Heppell or Merrett in the mids, nullify Stringer. Use the ball well, have poise & pride in your disposal, run in waves, lower the eyes

Mate, I agree. Usually I am pretty positive about the Club and where we're at but I must admit, this year has decimated all my hope.

*That along with trying to transition a 3 year old out of the cot for the last 3 months has got me all 'F**** THE WORLD'
It’s been a shit year for everyone mate, but the captain and a few of the boys having a laugh whilst giving a kid his debut doesn’t reflect on the club being a ‘joke’ as you put it.

Yes much rather that than Richo sounding like a funeral director and announcing Ben Paton will make his debut with lashings of "pleasings" and "strong at the contests"

Whatever champ. It wasn't them 'havin' a laugh' that I was referring to...it was the obvious awkwardness between the captain and his teammate amongst other things. You can think what you like about the Club. It ain't going to stop me having my opinion. If you're happy where we're at then you're part of the problem.
