If kicking to a contest while you are up by 2 points with under half a minute to go is what we train for, then the training is wrong.

If it was the 2nd quarter then we would have happilly chipped it around until the siren went, as we do every week
If it was the second quarter then the Crows wouldn't have been slavishly manning up on every player in the immediate area to prevent us from doing that.

We're just mentally weak and we panic. Someone like Houston is a classic example. During a game he's cool as a cucumber, rarely makes an error. Then he goes and does something as stupid as that ridiculous kick off the ground with 20 seconds to play and it costs us the game.

I mean, look at the kick after the siren. I know Robbie kicked one for us a couple of years ago, but we got seriously lucky that it was him that day. Who else in our team do you think would stand up to that pressure? They can't even kick important goals when there's still a few minutes to play! And yet, Shuey then McGovern and now Dawson have all calmly stepped up to the plate and delivered in that situation - and that's against us alone.

It all comes back to culture and our inability to deliver on expectation, which is now a problem decades in the making. There's no quick fix unfortunately.
We have never been clutch under Hinkley, it mustn’t be practiced in detail. I was banging on about it in 2015, no composure!

Watch what the umpire signalled

Umpire indicated high contact
He was reported for high contact
Murphy doesn’t take his kick because he’s pretending it was high contact

There’s a theme here Schorcho
You see umpire 14 in the bottom right hand corner of the 2 screen shots below.

If he called high contact it might not have been for the bump or tackle, it might have been for the arm on the head at the end of the tackle. It all happened pretty quickly.

If the umpire called the wrong free, then so be it, because there was another one there - holding the player without the ball.

And which umpire reported Mayes?? I didn't see umpire 14 report him. Did the other one do it? Did Dunstall pull that out of his arse??

There is no mention of an umpires report in the MRO's statement. Mayes got done for a gut punch to Murphy as he tackled him without the ball.

Sam Mayes, Port Adelaide, has been charged with Striking Lachlan Murphy, Adelaide Crows, during the fourth quarter of the Round Three match between the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide played at Adelaide Oval on Friday, April 1, 2022.

In summary, the player can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Intentional Conduct, Low Impact, Body Contact. The incident was classified as a $3000 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

You can see umpire 14 hasn't put his whistle to his mouth or signalled yet on this second shot.

That's why if he payed a high contact free, I reckon it was for the last bit of the collision not the first bit.

and from the main broadcast TV camera angle after about a dozen attempts this is the freeze shot of the earliest you hear the umpires whistle.

You can see Jackson Mead has taken two steps having his right foot planted in the above shot and the right foot is planted again in the shot below.

Was that really your reaction? I don't know how you do it. I was gutted when that goal went through and I'll remain gutted for the rest of the week until we get annihilated by Melbourne and I'm completely demoralised. I've supported Port since I was 5, my whole family supports them, my parents went the first game in Melbourne, we stayed through the tarps, I've been to the games in China. I've been around since the Fos/John Cahill days, wore a number 5 for Tim Evans - so definitely not a happy clapper. Do you think your hatred for Hinkley has made you lose all objectivity? And this is a genuine question not trying to be a smart arse but if that was your reaction does that mean you really can't call yourself a Port supporter anymore?
Port supporters believe that their club exists to win premierships. When that ball swung left and sailed through the goals, our chances of winning a premiership in the near future increased.

We are nowhere near as bad as what we are playing. This is a combination of many factors. Clearly our team has no ****ing idea what they are doing out there and if they do, they just dont have the mental fortitude after trying so hard for no reward the past few years. They dont believe in themselves and the fire in the guts is now just anxiety and depression.

They need a circuit breaker in a big way and a new era to be ushered in with new facilities, fresh coaches and entitled hinkley zealots shown the door in the off season.

The club has alot of work to do to get fans back on. Because of the efforts put up and the sometimes passive agressive comments made by players and admin about supporters its become a perfect storm of discontent with Hinkley and Koch right in the middle of it.

This is gonna be ugly. The more Hinkley smiles after losses, the more the supporters will spread their ire to more targets from players to the admin lady.

If that high tackle gets Hinkley sacked we should all chip in to pay the fine and organise a Knighthood for Mayes.
Mayes could put out a statement like Hinkley did when Lycett got suspended.

I'm sure Ken will take what's coming to him, we don't need that in our game.

I will never forget how Ken threw Lycett under the bus.

Are you positive that when Hinkley smiled it wasn't because he squeezed out a fart, he may have had Chinese for lunch, then topped off with some gassy coke zero, as you can imagine the box is a small space so he had to get out of there.

He probably blamed it on Skinner because he's the new guy.

Chinese? Ken doesnt go for any of that weird foreign food. A bratwurst in a hot dog bun is exotic to him.

Trouble with keeping Hinkley is he will just stick with Jonas as captain and nothing changes, clearly the on field leadership is crap. BTW how the hell is DBJ in the leadership group?
He was dreadful last year
He was in the leadership group last year.
Went in at the start of 2021.
Have a look around the league and you might notice leadership and being the best player don’t always correlate.

I just cant believe that these professionals can not hold possession for the 3 minutes.... is that so hard to do?
Exactly, why not kick sides ways for an uncontested mark ?
Hold possession for three minutes… wtf..
Do you actually think teams just allow you to chip it around…

after leading by three goals our only score for the last 10-15 minutes of playing time was a point from a lucky 50m penalty to boak.

Tells you everything you need to know about the failure of the coaching staff. We go defensive to try to hold on to games and not kill sides off by putting them away.

Seen it for way too long now

We don't put sides away because we don't kick straight enough for goal in the first 3 quarters of games and we waste so much energy making scoring so difficult. Look at our first goal that Motlop kicked for the game and how much hard work it was, when it wasn't necessary that it was so hard.
