But he turned the match? I think it was a great choice.
Well they spent more time on it than I expected (a minute) around 3-4 but they didn't mention the Goodes incident at all.AFL Game Day is on 7Mate (Syd) or normal 7 (Melb) at 10am. There should be a lot to talk about from this game, not least Goodes's goal adjudged to be a behind.
How will they manage him for next week? Both our subs in Rounds 1 and 2, Seaby and Meredith, were dropped the following week with the excuse that they needed careful management with their game time. I guess the other option up their sleeve is that they could keep Rohan as the sub in Round 4 as West Coast have been doing with Gaff for 3 weeks.Gary Rohan's performance as the substitute was outstanding. Almost a match winning performance TBH. Constant movement, blinding pace and strong inside 50 in regards to his tackling and marking.
He is the kind of player who can perform the sub role perfectly, though I'd like to see him play full games. Not surprised he was made a sub at Subiaco though, the big ground really does suit him and against tiring bodies he was just fantastic.
For sure. The sub has created yet another level of nuance in our great game, and whether this was intentional or not by the powers that be is immaterial now. Rohan is, for the moment, a near "perfect" sub, because of his ability to play anywhere on the field. Clubs will have seen what he did last night and be making notes. His speed was decisive, his attack on the ball as others around him showed serious signs of fatigue was noticeable, and his defense in attack made the difference. It was interesting to note that WC seemed to bring their sub on at exactly the same time. The sub is an injury measure, but at a certain point in the match (decided by the tactics of the coach) the sub suddenly turns into a weapon. I think, despite all the negative hoopla, the AFL have pretty much got it right with the sub.Agreed. But I gotta say if they played him in a similar role each week he would do that for 2/3 quarters. It's a good role for him at the moment though. They're finding it hard to slot him into a regular position and he's had to cover off Mal and Tadhg down back but the kid is an attacking player, not defensive. I was rapt when he came on last night because I knew he'd finally get a chance to be on the ball. He creates things and he needs to be in the middle/forward. It's all a learning experience (playing down back) but i'm sure in 2/3 years he will be a dynamo out of the middle and up front. He's hungry when you put him around the ball. The only other game where he had extended time up front was against Essendon last year and he kicked 3 and was our leading scorer along with Jesse. I just hope down the track he doesn't get stuck off half back. He is too dynamic. He'll win many games for us this kid. Finally after all the talk he gets, when he got a real chance last night he showed everyone what he is capable of. Well done Gaz!
That is very true. The two marks he took against his man, I think it was Schofield, he just seemed to get to the fall of the ball quicker and Schofield was labouring. I'd prefer it if he stays up forward, I'm not very comfortable with the idea of him playing down back as he is still raw and prone to making mistakes.Came on a earlier and probably ran harder and longer compared to the other two. He should be good to go next week.
Mase - sometimes I wonder if other Clubs feel the same way about their team but gee we seem to work so hard for some of our goals but we always tend to gift our opposition goals. Maybe i've got the blinkers on but it seems like such a Sydney Swans trait.
Just looking through those highlights, can anyone kick a drop punt? From either team? Nearly every kick on that seemed to be some variation of the floater.Bigpond highlights

Still amazed at Smith's goal (1:07). He launched it from 55 and it cleared the goalline! I didn't know he could kick it that well. Just had another look, doesn't look like your typical drop punt, did he go for the torp?
Jarred McVeigh should hang his head in shame. One of the worst efforts ever by a player in a milestone game. Great win by the boys despite him.
