That's correct, but looking at that list, I would question the selection of 95% of them in a starting team with each one of them either having no or poor preseason, injury or a role change. Whilst age can have an impact on certain individuals most of these guys had some additional influence which impacted their scoring ability and made them poor selections in the first place.

Selwood is completely different. It's a judgement decision you need to make. You can always make some form of statistical case to justify a poor trade but at the end of the day it is still just that.

The other thing below is, none, sorry, maybe Swan and Mitchell only, would be classified as premiums in my book for SC
Too broader statement repeated ad nauseum on here.

Swan started with 89 & 65 last year, whilst costing 117, he finished with an average of 86.
Griffen's first 2 scores were sub 70 he dropped his average by 20
Minson was averaging 92 after 5 games, costing 114, he finished on 94

Not trading any of those guys pre round 5 LY costs you 400 points.

Players who averaged 95+ in 2013 and dropped their average by at least 15 in 2014

DaneSWAN -31
RyanGRIFFEN -20
LeighMONTAGNA -25
WillMINSON -21
JackSTEVEN -26

Be wary of premiums who are 30+ and not performing, be wary of players carrying injuries but still playing, be aware of players playing different roles, particularly those squeezed out of +1 roles.

and trade them. :)

Looks fit, role hasn't changed, sub 30 - don't trade. Normally smashes the back half of the season FWIW

Can't believe the amount of people jumping off Cripps already, I never had him but he's only been out for one week and he was never going to score huge Rd 1 in an extremely poor Carlton performance.

As was posted a few pages back, the coaches at Carlton clearly rate him so he has pretty high job security imo

this means hes more than likely a shite player. didnt they rate bootsma?

gaz ---> danger
tbc -----> nic nat?
can you afford that?

TBC isn't going badly enough for me to trade him. He'll increase in price next week in fact.

I'm coming round to this cash generation thing.

Cheers. Yeah I just would love to offload Goodes for Smith, but can't even afford Docherty unfortunately.

Laird is one I've been considering the last few days. If he can make 100k (min) could be a sub 50k upgrade for one of the many falling backs, just the extra trade. But I guess he needs to go, so the Cripps ---> NVB and Goodes ---> Laird could be on, albeit risky. Laird will surely reach 400k by round 8-9.

Don't know too much about Sinclair tbh.
Laird will be 400k by Round 4 at current scoring.
Van Berlo will hit 400k at Round 6 at current scoring.

Thanks for the quality analysis there, hung on to Wingard last year too long because of the "Don't trade your premiums" creed, good to see some statistical analysis of everything.
With all due respect, Wingard is not, and was not, a Premium.

All bragging rights aside, your 2014 strategy was sound, at least as far as Leagues go. Hence why I have adopted the same approach this year by bringing in 2 rookies on the bubble this week and banking 510k. This approach in no small part is the result of lessons learnt from last year where I never generated enough rookie cash or built up a large enough war chest to trade in the best premo's when it came to upgrading, so while others like yourself were upgrading to the best performing premo's during the byes, I was forced to upgrade to fallen stars in the hope that they would come good once I traded them in, as well as hanging on to rookies well after they had already mooed ecause I didn't have the $ to upgrade them when I needed to. The fallen premo (buy cheap) strategy, while it had served me well in the past fell flat post byes last year since there weren't many fallen premo's worth trading in.

So in saying, while most teams still have 6+ rookies on the field and 2000-2200 is a par score, it's the perfect time to build up that war chest, so long as most of your premiums and on field rookies aren't stinking it up.

If you're gunning for overall, though, the money hoarding strategy won't work since you'd be coming from too far back to be any chance. But since I'm in a bunch of cashies this year, my focus is coming home strong post byes in my leagues.
Great post, sums it up perfectly.

Hey guys, please help me with these 3 options......
Im going for overall (like most) and have all of the cashcow rooks except VDB and NVB..... I also have the Ablett conundrum.

1. I could be short-sighted and trade Ablett out for 2 premos this week (thinking Sloane/JPK/Shiel & Goldstein)
2. Or I could look ahead and trade Gaz and a dead rookie out for VDB and NVB, and have excess cash for next week and cash the cashcows in for premos in a few weeks.
3. Have the best of both worlds; Trade in what I call a "Premium Cashcow" (ie Shiel.... due for a 50k rise) for Gaz and get either of NVB or VDB.

Cheers for your help

I'd go option 2 and get NVB and VDB.

Cash generation is king and these guys will make you $200k plus each then you can upgrade later to premos who don't fluctuate as much.

Short term pain, long term gain is how I prefer to go.

Depends on the rest of your rookies/team but JPK/Vandenberg and keep some cash.

He'll be too far behind, getting one of each is the best compromise. It's not the end of the world if you don't have Van Berlo. You can't leave 500k+ sitting in the bank for 4-5 weeks while you wait for the rookies to peak.

I would bank the cash to get the rookies, and spend it to upgrade to guys like Goldy and Brodie Smith next week. Then Id have the cashcows making money, and $$ to upgrade weaker positions.

Yeah fair enough. I opted for that style by sacrificing a premium or two early and grabbing the right cash cows last year and I flew home from about 50,000 half way to finish about 550.

Hey guys. Just wondering what people are doing with steven and kolodjashnij. They are the only real worries I have along with goodes. No idea if I should hold them or move them on. Have 150k in the bank.
I'm worried about Steven too, he seems to be that eternal promise player that has all the potential but just doesn't lift to his heights. In a better team he would be a better player, I saw the hawks/saints nab game and noticed that he was handballing to players who should have handballed back to him in the classic one two but they didn't do it. Not sure if he will be there and am considering a 'corrective' trade to the bont this week.

Looking at dropping T. Mitchell for one of the following

Coniglio vs Rischitelli vs B. Crouch (out for 5-6 weeks)

I'm in a draft league and im looking for a mid to sit on my bench. Need backup due to Gaz's injury.

Thoughts?
