Richmond Tigers vs Melbourne @The MCG
Richmond: The tigers have been a very hard team to gauge in the early stages of the season, They beat a horrible Carlton team in round 1, Lost to the Dogs in round 2 in a shocking display of football, Then bounced back against a depleted Lions and came out big winners by 79 points with the leaders standing up.
How the tigers can win: After 3 very easy opponents I would say that Melbourne will be the hardest challenge for the tigers so far this season, The demons still have a very defensive approach to the game this season, And opposition teams are going to be focusing on breaking the lines with pure pace and extremely quick ball movement to have the Demons second Guessing themselves as the GWS did in round 2, Kicking 14 unanswered goals.
This will be the tigers avenue to scoring breaking the lines and isolate the demons defense, Players like Houli, Grigg, Mcintosh, Ellis and Martin will be extra important this week.
Melbourne: The demons have had a very inconsistent start to the season as many young sides do, Beating the Gold Coast easily had the fans looking forward to the rest of the year, They soon come crashing back down to earth against the Giants after leading by 5 goals they ended up losing by 8 goals after the Giants exposed their defense with excellent precision and ball movement, They were very good in a wet game against the Crows last week who are probably the in form team of the league only going down by 4 goals.
Where Melbourne can win: To be brutally honest the tigers still crumble under heavy pressure, such as in the bulldogs game where they put massive pressure on the tigers and they continually gave the ball back going forward, The dees best chance to win is by putting pressure on and hitting us hard on the rebound. If they do that they will win the game.
Key Match ups:
Trent Cotchin vs Bernie Vince - You would think that the demons would send hard hitting tagger Bernie Vince to the skipper of the tigers, After doing a terrific job on Patrick Dangerfield he will go to one of the tigers midfielders. If Cotchin can break the tag and play like he did against the lions it will go a long way towards a tiger win.
Jack Reiwoldt vs Tom McDonald - Players speak for themselves, McDonald is fast becoming one of the best defenders in the game and Jumping Jack one of the best forwards in the game, If Jack doesn't get on the board and have an Impact the dees are a big chance.
Alex Rance vs Jesse Hogan - What a test for the young gun Jesse Hogan, coming up against the leagues best defender will set the benchmark for how good he has to become, I can't see him having much of an impact but if he manages to beat Rance The tigers are in trouble, It will be great for Hogans development anyway.
Prediction - Tigers by 17 points.
