Review Round 4 vs Carlton

Still can't see Brodie coming in for anyone other then Miles, Swallow or Miller.

I think Holman stays, it's not like he was shocking. Effort and run were there it just didn't happen for him against a highly skilled rebounding defensive group. If he plays I'll make an early call of a 10 tackle + game against the blues.

Day needs to put together a body of work in the 2's, Burgess is playing well. If any forward is down on confidence/impact it's Wright. Has the "key" target factor got in his head? He's clunking marks and linking up well up the ground but as soon as he gets inside 50 it's like a light turns off at the moment.

If Brodie came in, I think he'd have to play in the middle. Therefore Miles, Swallow or Miller would have to at least move to another position. Miles was tried at half forward against the Dogs, but struggled in that role. He's too slow for it & so is Brodie. Slow leg speed, that is. They've both got quick hands. Swallow & Miller are more adaptable.

Burgess is improving each week. I wouldn't drop him.

Holman & Lukosius looked our least useful contributors on Sunday. I'm happy to give Holman another chance, because he is so strong & he tackles like he means it. He was good against Freo. Lukosius is improving week by week & was involved in several scores, but Day could do a similar job. Lukosius also spends a lot of time on the bench. Having Day in the side would allow Wright to spend more time near goals. Wright has been good in the ruck, but his goalkicking accuracy has slipped. That may be because he's tired from the ruckwork.

Joyce looked a bit rusty on Sunday too, but I can't see a viable replacement, who would do better than him.

I probably wouldn't make any change, but I'd consider Day in for Lukosius, if they want Wright to kick more goals.

Watched Florini score 4 goal in NEAFL playing HF and inside Mid last year , don't really mind Will Brodie replace Holman but playing as inside mid and move Florini to HF . Florini and Bowes are both flexible playing in different position .

From the Malceski NEAFL report last week? it sounds like Brodie will be in the senior team when he has learnt the 2 way running patterns and is consistent with his inside disposal. Once he’s shown he can do this reliably then I’m sure he will be back up, especially if he keeps racking up the numbers and putting pressure on the selectors with what they want to see from him.

Realistically if Burgess is having a few poor weeks move Swallow to a rotating full forward role and give Brodie a run in the middle

Take away Burgess/lukosius score involvement . Sam Day and Will Brodie just lack the class in making the right decision at the right time , Swallow winning goal from Burgess pass , 1st quarter vs Bulldog a few of the goal is set up by lukosius. Brodie just lack polish and hurt factor with his disposal , Sam Day can mark the ball but once the ball hit the ground I prefer Burgess .

Agree, Burgess is quite quick once the ball hits the deck for a big man and applies a bit of pressure, Sammy day doesn’t. And agree with Brodie. He is a fantastic inside mid when it comes to first possession and winning the ball but his decision making and ball use going forward is quite poor. Also not able to be thrown on the HFF as he isn’t quick enough or agile enough to apply F50 pressure. Needs to really play well to displace one of the inside mids

Miles found himself out on the HFF, somewhere he isn't used to playing, but in his defence absolutely nailed a much needed goal in the last against the Bulldogs, man had ice running through his veins.

As far as Brodie goes, would love him in, but Miles, Miller, Swallow, Bowes, Fiorini, Martin and others have absolutely deserved to retain their spots in the middle. However, if we start seeing Swallow play more as a forward out of the goal square, it may open up a spot for Brodie through the guts.

Corbett due back this week, will probably play NEAFL to get his touch back and then he may find his way in if Burgess has a quiet game against Carlton, since the coaching group were high on Corbett before his knee issue.

I have that nagging feeling that Carlton are going to beat us this weekend as well. They will be gunning for their first win of the year. We have a young list who may struggle with the tag of 'favourite' so who knows. This will be our last good chance for a win looking at our future games, so would love for us to get a win.

I think we’re all waiting nervously for the old suns to return and roll over once the chips are down

Absolutely...the moment a bit of cockiness creeps in we might get slaughtered and our blokes have a habit of doing that when the dormant fans come out of the woodwork.

Going to take strong leadership and character this week to not waste this amazing opportunity for the club with the community.

Hopefully Home ground advantage will do the job , last year they don't really trained much at Metricon stadium including pre season because of Commonwealth games, kind of a home without shelter .

I don’t mind if we lose as long as we go down swinging! We’re going to get beat a lot this year, (and we’ve been 1 kick away from being 0-3 already this season)

I’m not confident of a win, but I’m confident these kids won’t roll over (or strut around the back line blaming everyone like may)

Brace yourself, winter is coming! But all I want to see is a 4 quarter effort and some backbone, which the kids have delivered that in spades so far this year, and there’s no reason why that would stop.

Hard to line the form up when we've played 3 different teams. Carlton weren't hopeless against Richmond for 3 quarters and Port the same over there.
I just want to see the same 4 quarter effort this week and I'd be happy and the result should take care of itself.
As for Brodie I'm probably in the minority. He gets it a lot but his disposal isn't AFL standard from what I've seen and happy for him to stay in the NEAFL and work on it.

As a pies supporter, you've got to understand doing anything for carlton is not in my DNA LOL But I don't tip for money, just for fun (the online tipping comp on AFL.com/pies club tipping comp)
If no money involve better tipped Carlton , I take out Jack Martin in my fantasy team after first round and he is flying now .Ballard , lukosius , Burgess could all be out if they lost to Carlton .

Not a Brodie fan.I describe him on field as a fart in a pickle bottle.
Lots of movement but not much substance
But at some point your top 10 selection has to either be a win or yet another fail
If we don't play him and find out he won't be here next year

True but Dew has shown he's non negotiable with certain standards regardless of where you're drafted.
I really hope Wil can improve those areas and be a 10 year player.

If he don't improve I will just take this year second Rd or third Rd pick and use that on Budarick and release another 400k-450k salary cap. Sometime you just need to cut losses .
