we won contested possessions by 21 I believe - so don't think the contest work was necessarily the issue. Just getting clean hands out of the stoppage to go was. Pies shielded the space well once the ball came out and we panicked a bit.
Agree.

Interesting, a few stats we were well down on were:

Tackles - 45 vs our season average of 55. Tackles inside 50 were 6 - season Ave 9.

One percenters 41 vs 47 average

Bounces 2 vs 9 average (presumably good coaching by Pies to stop our run)

Pies were slightly above their season tackle averages for both categories.

Maybe indicates our team pressure wasn’t at the level of the other games?

You could say our disposal killed us.

There was a number of times we were out and we ****ed the kick or fumbled and we lost the opportunity. (Bounces)

It also means that we don’t get the next kick which puts us deep 50.

Which prevents the opportunity to win the ball back high up the ground (tackles)

Just like how we got an audit against Melbourne in the preseason and hadn’t lost a game since (Essendon, Fremantle, Dogs, Essendon, Gold Coast).

We’re building and learning as a young team making necessary mistakes to get better. No need to overreact about Gresham, Paton or even Marshall.

And as much as I dislike Carlton, I won’t even mind a loss next week as long as we continue to show growth and effort.

Stay the course.
Like what your saying, but absolutely need to beat Carlton just purely because I hate them so much

Gerald Whaterbed trying to get him hung, drawn and quartered on SEN. Asking for the death penalty then excusing Shai Bolton. He's such an arse hat.
It’s really embarrassing.

But we have the right coaching group to manage the kid whatever the outcome

And it's still ******* stupid from Hammer.

If it were one of our blokes we'd be screaming bloody murder.

He'll be lucky to get only 3. The media has already seen to that. Which is a goddamn shame because he gives us a shitload more than Cordy up forward.
Hunter Clark's jaw says hello......

Yes a 19 year old kid in his 5th game is ******* stupid.

What it stupid is that he is going to get punished because of the outcome not necessarily the force of his action or intent.

I think Ralph is right. I’d be sliding Murphys interview infront of any panel and highlighting it was a soft hit on an even softer skull

So he's never played the game before? Never had a defender niggle at him?
His act was stupid. As it hurts the team.
I'd rather the kid play. Got enormous upside.

He gave away a free earlier in the match because of the niggle.

He's hit him at least once (I keep looking at the footage and it nearly looks the a swift 1-2 combo) And that hit was to the head. And the AFL have already shown that tackles are suspendable. What do you think will happen to a hit?

The thing that will shit me more is that he'll get done like a dinner and Adams who slung Ross to the ground in the match will not done.

Looks like Caminiti will cop a week off, unlikely that a Saints player gets looked at by the MRP and gets off lightlly but Membrey is a good replacement.

I laugh when people think that he favours St Kilda because he used to play for us, it's quite the opposite, he screws us more than any other umpire.
If caminiti only gets a week that would be great.

If unfortunately with the baying for blood from all and sundry in the media it’ll be longer than that.

Taken another look at Caminiti v Murphy incident. Caminiti's main crime was he was accurate and Murphy was not. In terms of potential to do damage, both deserve the same suspension.
Murphy dropped at the knees expecting a bump which is why he got him in the head.
Will get weeks as it is a bad look but is a little unlucky in some ways.

He should get a discount for Murphy provoking him and for the fact he is an ugly ranga so I would be disappointed if he cops 3 weeks for that.

I would accept a week for that, maybe even 2 weeks but if he cops 3 weeks for that I would appeal, it was a little jab not a swinging roundhouse.

He has never played the game with something at stake. With grown men actively looking for a weakness from him.

He may have played with and against thugs.

He got hit and if he fell to the floor - do you think he would have received a free or there would be an up roar for Murphy to be suspended?

I heard that conversation with him and King and didn't hear it like that.

Most of the media have been pretty sensible about it and see it for the accident it was.

Wheatley was just going through how the MRO will have to grade it.

King, who is usually the first to jump on and ask for a lengthy suspension for any head high hit, was smart enough to see the contact came after the Collingwood player dropped his knees which meant what usually would hit a guy in the chest has hit his head.

He's going to have to cop time, just because it's caused a concussion, but I think it will be judged as careless rather than intentional.

After that, the club will likely have to fight on whether the impact was severe or high. A concussion would say severe but watching the video there really wasn't a lot behind it and I think the Collingwood player obviously has an issue with concussions.

But it's all about the outcome....except sometimes the potential to cause injury, then that can't be taken into account, but then stars can't be held to the same account as others, and then Tom Hawkins has just been unlucky that he punches guys in the head at least three times a season. Unfortunately they just make it all up as they go.

Seems similar to the Gaff incident with Brayshaw from a few years ago.

Gaff was just trying to hit him in the chest to break a tag but Brayshaw dropped his knees so Gaff clocked him in the head instead and broke his jaw.

It wasn't that hard a hit but the outcome made it look worse than it was.
