Bad loss,

Doesn’t happen if not for the dumb holding the ball decision when Prowse didn’t dive on it but picked it up and got immediately tackled or the phantom mark moments later

Doesn't happen if our team didn't make two absolute howlers in the last 3mins.

When you have a mark on the 50m line and you just need to wind down the last 3 mins you don't handball 1m and give away a HTB free, you kick it to the top of our goal square, half the contest, ball up, build a wall and lock it in.

Then you don't allow the one opponent to mark in the goal square against FIVE of us, it just doesn't happen.

We well and truly lost that, the umps were just their usual selves.

Pretty obvious they wanted this result after yesterday.

Not sure, we always get bent over when we play there, we dominated them from the word go when we went there in round 1 and kept the crowd quiet and still lost the free kicks 17 vs 12. I don't know what it is, they always seem to get a lot of soft free kicks that don't get paid the other way.

It is just really rough in a close game to see some of those decisions paid. Crows made some poor mistakes though, which was unfortunate.

Charlton mucking around on the 50 that led to the turnover for the eventual Davidson goal and Goodwin going for glory when she was long odds to make the distance are just 2 of the moments late they’d want to have back.
Maybe she didn't know how much time was left and it was just on her maximum kicking distance?

I don’t disagree that the state of the game influenced Goodwin’s decision but given it was just post a goal she would’ve known that there was still over a minute and a half to play but to have a shot from over 40 odd metres out late in the last quarter in taxing conditions was not a smart play, also at no point did any experienced player calm her down or tell her to find an option closer to goal which they should’ve done.

Not alone as far too often AFLW players still have those low percentage shots from 40+ that don’t make the distance rather than spotting up someone.

Crows players lost heads trying to protect that lead going defensive too early with over 6 minutes left on the clock, became too hesitant to pull the trigger as they didn’t want the Lions to rebound it out of their 50 like they burned them doing in the 1st half.

Like I mentioned during the game Starcevich believes he can expose the Crows midfield with quick hands out of stoppage but also just with leg speed so put both Svarc sisters around the stoppages late and they burnt off the Crows midfielders with their pace who were way too flat footed around stoppage.

He also had Hodder as an extra around stoppages. Crows looked slow all game, despite Brisbane being the team to come off a double game week.

Agreed, also probably one of the better chances they’d have to beat Brisbane given the different lead ins the clubs had.

Also not ruling out some level of psychology in that loss too given recent history between the 2 teams.

Very disappointed with Ponter today. Super lazy and looking for the easy possession. Her work in the F50 was awful.
Has the talent to be an elite player, but looks like she’s relying on it.
2 weeks in a row now she’s been way to hesitant around the ball, thought she played quite good higher up the ground in the 2nd half when she didn’t have an opponent breathing down her neck but her work at the centre stoppages was poor and she looked horribly hesitant to go for the ground ball and it played into Brisbane’s hands.

I was at a kid's birthday party today, so only got to watch the match this evening.

**** that. What an absolute screwjob. HTB not called all day, then suddenly paid when players successfully disposed of the ball. Marks paid that simply weren't there. Players just shoved over with no whistle, balls going out of bounds and not called. Complete robbery of a match.

Pretty strong performance from the Crows overall. Given a fair playing field, we would have won that match despite a poor start. Impressively, many of our players had season-best matches despite facing our toughest opposition yet. Hatchard, Randall, Munyard, Levy, Martin all at their best. Biddell and Prowse excellent as always, despite Prowse being completely rooted by shit umpiring. Boyle-Carr looks like she belonged, but I didn't see her later in the match, was she okay?

Is Randall having her best season since 2021? She seems on a mission at the moment.

Probably the main takeaway from that match is that we're still very much in the ballpark with one of the top side in the competition. If that game is played out of Queensland, we'd win it. And that's despite getting off to a slow start.

Now we just need to find a way to actually get over the line when it counts.

Haven't seen the game yet. Will do so soon.

In the context of this season that loss won't mean too much. NM will probably finish top, leaving us and Bris to finish 2nd and 3rd, thus fighting out the qualifying final. Whoever wins that will potentially have an easier prelim final leading into the grand final, with NM having a harder prelim against either us or Bris.

Winning the qualifying should be our main focus.

The umpiring is what it always is.

Firstly I totally agree with DJ 75 view of Ponters game up forward as some of efforts to compete were horrible and played arrogantly thinking ball was going to fall for her and then she would just do her thing.
Gould was totally the opposite and competed strongly for everything and close to our most important player.
Although Biddell is a casual type player ,but she has to have physical presence on contest in square.
Hatchard is such a footy beast able to do anything but can't work out why last couple of years doesn't totally dominate a game .
Thought Randall was best yesterday and provided effort and presence all over ground .
Yes they had bit of help from umpires but just felt that look at whole game they played slightly better than us with outside run giving their forwards clearer opportunities .
They have more players able to take a competitive mark than our few able to do so.

You may not have seen it on TV, but the wind was a factor. At times gusting strongly across the ground, can't tell you how many times our kicks (in particular) dropped short or appeared to be poor kicks but actually just got blown off course. Brisbane train at this ground so they were reading it much better than we were.

No need to toot my own horn from when I called for it in pre-season but surely it was further proof yesterday that Hatchard needs to be played more permanently up forward now, the only time the forward line even looked remotely like troubling Brisbane was when she was down there with Gould providing an aerial contest. Clarke just needs to fully commit to it, in his post-match presser he said her moving forward after half time brought competitiveness, why not try it for a full game against the Saints?

To be fair, I thought Hatchard's first half in the midfield was the best she's looked there all year. But I agree, there is a gaping hole in our forward line with Jones out and someone needs to fill it.

Having both her and Ponter as genuine A-grade options to run through the middle as needed is nice flexibility too. Hell, add Gould to that discussion as well.
