Okay, so it seems Lachie is the new whipping boy. He has to prove himself for sure but five games in is a tad premature.

More interesting right now, can we call that Rischitelli's farewell? Ineffectual tonight, but a fairly nice way to go with a QClash win.

Sometime is better to drop Weller to find form or move him to other position and see whether the position he play is the problem. Not many footballer is like jack martin .

He won’t be dropped nor should he be. He’s not worth pick 2, we all acknowledge that but despite mistakes he’s not our worst. Ainsworth was pick 4 and been putrid for most of the year. KK pick 5 and in the NEAFL. Are we judging him harshly because of the trade?

Hard to judge that game from behind the goals. And having an inexperienced eye for picking out players live i cant really say too much yet. I did record the game so i'll rewatch it later. But martin was the only standout for me. Darcy mac was on track until he got hurt.

Ainsworth,Bowes only had 1 full pre season and less AFL games experience compare to Weller who had three pre season (exclude 2015 as he just get drafted.

I don't think Weller should be dropped, I'm just sure half back flank isn't his place
I agree , but if Dew insist he play HBF , then i think NEAFl is the best place for him to develop his decision making .

I didn’t mention Bowes. I saw Lachie last year play some great footy. He will be a good player for years to come for us and just appears to be trying too hard & rushing things just like Ainsworth is and silly mistakes are a result.

Good win. Agree with TSG that in years gone by we would have lost that.

I thought Lach had some bad turnovers, but he made up for it in other areas with some great marks. The clangers can really be killer though which is what people will remember him for. By the end of the game his confidence was so low with his kicking he just hand ball'd it all the time. I wouldn't be adverse to playing him up forward either. He'll get better.

The game plan is perplexing. We are clearly drilled to go up the line over and over again and just bomb it forward. Regularly we have guys open but they are ignored. It's very much like Sydney's game plan (no surprise), but we don't have Buddy or the elite mids to make it work consistently. All of our young guys are bombing it forward, even when they shouldn't. I'm sure they're doing what the Coach says, but sometimes they need to be more sensible about it. Lyons for instance in our last offensive play didn't bomb it forward. He stopped, propped and waited for people to get forward. That's obviously want Dew wants, but the young guys will just follow the 'bomb it forward' mentality to the tee. Hopefully they will fix itself up as they get better and more experienced. It's still a very young group.

On the above, our gameplan isn't based around leg speed. It's about being about to contest regular stoppage after stoppage after stoppage and cover ground to be able to get there.

Which is why I cannot fathom why Barlow isn't in the team.

It is Darce. :)

Michael Whiting had Lachie Weller in his best for afl.com.au

The team played a strange gameplan tonight. You could see players at times icing the clock, only to turn it over badly. You could see players playing fast footy at all costs, only to hack it forward. The only player to take a few runs and have a bounce was Sexton with 6 - only other bounce was from Fiorini, who had a great game. It was like the players knew the Lions midfield had more pace and height, so they played a mixed tempo game and hoped for maximum reward from inside 50s.

We got away with that one.

Barlow and Ah Chee (if ready), if not bring in Spencer (kicked 2 today, can go back or forward) in for McPherson and Rischitelli. Thought Lonergan struggled but should stay in the side

the excuse about how barlow isn't in the team going forward due to age is a cop out, if you've got experienced guys like rosa and rischitelli in the squad. i would have thought barlow would suit our gameplan well enough to get a look in.
