He must offer something we can't see from outside the club and playing group.

Is it a rule you can't take people who were named on field? It would be super silly to name someone on the field then take them out of the final squad, but you never know with us.

I gather it is because it is against his old club. He does offer leadership on the field, which you don't see on TV. At the Carlton game he was directing troops around the field, continually supporting the defensive rebound and getting up the ground to deliver it into forward 50. He wasn't nearly as productive in WA.

Rischa's capability will be determined strictly by the team's ability to pressure up the ground. If that goes away like it did in our WA games he's toast.

Ainsworth must be in. If he failed that concussion test he'd be listed as OUT, right?
I think he'll play but with concussion an extra days break is like gold so they might still be waying up how he feels after tomorrow.

Brisbane has picked a curious collection of runts and oversized boys. Their forward line is puny except for Hipwood, but he's more than covered by Rory, while their backline and bench are stacked with talls.

Ocsar McInernerey is a 204cm, 107kg Ruck who doesn't mind going forward for a few goals. Named on the bench to debut, but given it is a "home" fixture he may just be getting a nod for his form and play the early game. If he does play it could mean the Lions mean to play Martin up forward in tandem, a la West Coast and Freo, which we aren't very well equipped to deal with. If Day drops back, which we haven't seen yet, Lynch will get double teamed all day.

The Lions have named:
Robertson 191cm
Gardiner 193cm
McStay* 195cm
Andrews 201cm
Cutler 191cm
Hipwood 203cm
Martin 199cm
Berry 193cm
and maybe
Lester* 192cm
Allison* 195cm
Walker 197cm
McInerney* 204cm

* INs

Concussion protocols allow the doctors to test him 2 hours before the game.

Mcinerney has been an emergency every week. Very unlikely he'll play.

Suns tallest:
Witts 209cm
Thompson 200cm
Lynch 199cm
Day 197cm
May 193cm
Rosa 191cm
Kolojashnij 190cm
Spencer 190cm
Barlow 189cm
Young 189cm
Holman 189cm
Bowes 187cm

I worry that we've been exposed as a team that cannot handle an aerial attack. Spencer needs to play if we are going to be able have options in defence, which mean KK is out. Our midfield needs some grunt with Barlow and Lonergan in and Hall and Ainsworth out. Surely they don't mean to name Rosa Emergency for a 3rd game, unless he's put into the NEAFL side and Holman survives the cut.

Either young or Holman will be out when tommorow come .

I guess the biggest question is whether players named in the starting side are safe. If not, then Rischa and Young are in danger. If they are safe, Holman is 23rd man IMHO.

I find it very strange the non selection of Brodie once again.
From what I have seen he holds up well in the hurly burly of 1st 18 footy.
The fact that two coaches have refused to play him ahead of Rischitelli Barlow Rosa and Lonergan
shows he must have flaws in his game that we supporters don't see.
The concern for me is last years draft gave us 5 good picks but as yet we have little to show for it.
I know it is early in their careers and don't want to panic just yet ,but I feel the future of the club
will depend a lot on their to develop as top players.

PS Mav Weller -not for any price .

What "First 18" footy are we talking here?
NEAFL? AFL X? JLT?- or the 3 senior games he played last year
Admittedly I've only seen him play live once which was v Eagles last year, but he looked completely lost that day
Absolutely zero game awareness
Personally I haven't understood the rapture he induces amongst people on the board
And no-one wants him to succeed more than me
Hopefully he'll be a winner

Could be dodee , late development.

Bowes and Ainsworth were the ready-made for AFL Draft picks in 2016. Brodie and Scrimshaw were not. Scrimshaw's flaws are well documented on this board - he hasn't got the tank and he doesn't demand selection even against ordinary competition for spots. Brodie's issues are obvious when you watch a NEAFL game. He doesn't have the nous like Barlow to gather chance possessions or the grunt of Lonergan to gather the clearances, so he's simply not in front of them to gain what is currently 1 or 2 spots in the Senior team and has up until now been zero spots. Brodie is often in close to the action or near the ball, but he just doesn't claim enough of it to demand selection. The talent is bloody obvious because when he does demand possession he's damn near imperious, but just as often he hesitates with the ball or his timing is off and things just aren't clicking for him yet. Yes, he can handle the rough and tumble, but he needs to gain consistency. It'll happen for him and it may turn out that he's just not an inside midfielder, so whatever comes we just need to be patient and see what he becomes.

PS. Mav Weller's got 19 more rounds to show whether his career will be worth extending. Right now he's back in the Saints Senior team, so reserve your judgement until he has a chance to demonstrate his value. The Suns didn't do right by him and he said his piece. Different administration and a different player.
