You don't kick 21 goals in a game just going through the motions regardless of the opposition. If you feel that way you're looking for perfection, which ain't going to happen.
Our effort in every game has been good. Our preparation on the opposition has been very good.

It's just my impression and I have no intelligence on this but I'd suggest in the inner sanctum we looked at the draw and thought we can get a good start to the year without being fully wound up and 100% ready to go provided we get the required effort.

I haven't got any doubt that the preparations of some players have been geared towards building as the year progresses . Especially seeing we haven't been at our best in any finals campaign under Fagan.

So whilst I'd like to see another couple of guys get a go I think we have them at the ready as soon as we cop an injury. Fort has been brought in to keep Oscar a bit fresher. I'd say there are 8 or 9 players in our team who aren't near their peaks yet. But as Lyons ,Rayner and Andrews showed yesterday they're going to improve as the year progresses.

We're playing it a bit smarter this year than the last 3 years when we were over anxious to win every game we could.

Anybody watch the VFL game? It was a pretty impressive effort. My take....

T Berry, very good, more than ready for the step up......a logical replacement for Lohmann
H. Smith, played well, much stronger in the contest than previously.
Number 60......sorry I've forgotten his name. He's ready to play.
Big surprise for me was the ruck work of Buzza. Really good.
Blake Coleman, really good game.
Madden, good game, though he's still not playing to his strengths imho
Tunstall, solid
Lester.......just being Lester.
Willmot......ready to play

All in all very impressive in terms of talent ready to go.

Charlie played a really good solid game.. Went back and helped out, tackled well.
Some weeks we do not see this Charlie come out. I do wonder if Ah Chee up forward gives him more of a license.
All the team pressured well. We were cleaner then the Suns.
The Suns where not that far off it.. Kicked straighter and did not rush the kick into 50 or still had King playing.
Could of snatched it
Hope they keep up the intensity for the rest of the year do not drop off like they normally do.
See what happens in SCG this week be a test. Swans always been a boogey side

Another Metricon game another injured Lion :( what a &((* ground

Lots of positives mentioned, but I don’t think anyone has commented on Andrews. His best game for the season l think. Very important piece of the puzzle falling in place.

He loves playing on Chol - the 2020 Qualifying final was easily the last truly great Harris game I can remember (I'm definitely forgetting a couple last year) and that night he just zoned off beautifully.

I thought that the game overall was very comfortable from the first bounce. The boys just seemed to cruise and when we kick accurately like we did, just killed any tension in the game. You only have to look at Melbournes inaccuracy keeping Richmond in it longer then they probably deserved.

I am still a little worried about keeping up with the overlap run that a team like Melb has, considering we like to back our own mids to win it at the coalface and run (ski) forward. But it could just end up being a high risk high reward strategy if Lyons / Neale / Berry can beat an Oliver in there for half a game.

Our forward and backline is functioning so we'll at the moment, I am loving the Coleman / Zorko / Rich combination back there. So much attacking fire power and such good delivery. It was also good to see even with Adams having a quieter game, we still dominated in the air and kept them to a reasonably low score.

Andrews game was better however I still don't like his body language and the casual way he plays these days.

We still play a stop/start game too much which allows opposition defense more time to set up when we have the ball in hand. Almost every time we moved the ball quickly on Sunday afternoon, we converted and looked great. In my opinion that is the style of football we need to bring come September to win the ultimate prize.

Let's hop on Change.org and get a petition started for him to show up in at least a suit if not full black tie!

This. We played like this against Geelong and I know they’ve got a weird shaped ground. This is why I like having Zorko and Kiddy down back with Rich as the kicking skills they bring allow better ball movement. Hopefully we should see a gradual movement towards a more attacking style from our back half.

Yep, what is the go with this? For me it doesn’t represent leadership either. Quite negative in his body language. Are the leadership ever held accountable by the playing group?

I think it's more about balancing the two than doing one over the other. If we move quickly every time, we'll be more susceptible to rebound goals not to mention more susceptible to running out of legs late in the game. We need to find the balance so we have confidence to play slow when needed and equally when we can see an opportunity play fast and make the opposition pay. I thought we got the balance right on Sunday.

Not sure if you're serious but don't they get voted in by the playing group

The Geelong game is a perfect example. Especially hurt us when we allowed their bigger bodied players to get back and match up against us rather than use our more mobile players to move the ball quicker & leave the Geelong older bodies in their wake. So frustrating to see us hold the ball and let Geelong do that to us. Sunday we were much better and the Suns are a much faster side than Geelong. We will get smashed every time against bigger bodies.

That was the polar opposite of the Suns game though. I think we've already learned from the Geelong game well.

When the Melbourne game comes around in late June, I would love to see Starc match up with Oliver & Berry on Petracca. Both playing negating roles.Watching their game against Richmond on Sunday night, Oliver is a contested machine who never gives up while almost everytime Petracca has the ball in his hands they go forward and score. We have to find a way to keep both those 2 relatively quiet and for me having those match ups might do just that.

I have a similar thought but swap Starc for Robertson except for when either float forward, then Starc takes them.

I agree, Andrews game was better but his vision on whether to mark or punch the ball in a marking situation is poor. There were cases where he could have easily marked but punched it instead, landing in the hands of the opposition. His casual body language is extremely poor and where is his enthusiasm? I have had concerns on his performances and is not performing as good as he was 3 to 5 years ago. Rance (Richmond) and Andrews were the 2 best going around at that time but at present he is nowhere performing his defensive work as well. We all hope our players hit form as the season progresses but Andrews is one player I would hope his body language and form improves. We are a long way off Melbourne's performances but we do have positives but areas of midfield and backline are of concern for me. Some will disagree with me, but I am looking at consistency of individuals going forward and Andrews is a concern.
