Hey guys, rookie here from WA. Can't wait for this weekend's game against the Lions.

I think Laidler will be fine to play. Kizza looked worse after his collision against the Crows and came back on. Think they were being precautionary with Laidler and the eight-day break will help him. You never wanna change a winning line-up, but alas, I think Jones in for Teddy. There would be something great about having a fourth debutant in six games in Aliir getting a game, but it's Brisbane. It's not like they have Lynch, Brown, Bradshaw and Keating down forward anymore. I think go low, try and focus on our run, get some discipline and skill into Jones, and continue to work Mills and Rampe as smaller defenders. This would give McVeigh the freedom to roam forward more, and then next week, we take on the Bombers who really only have one real dangerous tall forward in Daniher, who I have confidence would be covered by Grundy (if it ever went down there).

Sounds strange, but the injuries we've had this year have actually been a bit of a blessing. It's kind of encouraged Horse & co. to loosen the reigns and play around with the magnets a little more than last year, and so far it's worked.
Welcome fellow perthite.

averages don't tell the story with him. i'd get behind him if he could produce against top teams under pressure but he never does. he's been playing mostly half back and a bit of midfield. imo jones can do that job better if given time. i don't want to go over old arguments i know who doesn't agree with me and those who can't disagree without having cheap shots i choose not to reply to. my argument in this case was simply about this weeks team and i think if lloyd does play he will do really well because brisbane aren't a top team.

That's fair enough, entitled to your opinion.

To my way of thinking Lloyd has played his role very well this year and wouldn't be close to being dropped.

I really like Jones but he isn't able to play that role at all because he doesn't have the aerobic capacity or running power that Lloyd posesses.

Hi guys,
No I am not a swans supporter but I don't hate the club by any means either. Just popped in to say that I think the crap about academies on the afl board is a load of tripe!!! I can't believe the amount of hawthorn, Collingwood and Other Vic team supporters crying over this unfair advantage? Jeezus how many advantages do they want?? A couple of kids they don't get their hands on and it's a bloody outrage?!?!?
While I don't necessarily believe u guys share quite the same burden as the Qld clubs, I thought the alf was trying to market the game better in NSW AND QLD...doesn't that mean it's actually beneficial for those clubs to do well? And not act solely as feeder club for the big vic teams?
Personally I hope u thrash the Hawks, Norf and any other Vic team....
Just let the lions win this week ( :p )

Your logic is illogical.
Lloyd performs against the lesser teams so let's drop him because he doesn't perform against the top teams?
And replace him with who?
A player that hasn't even played against the lesser teams? Surely not?
A player that doesn't play in his position? Change things up when there is no evidence that what we are doing won't work against the top teams?

If a player performs against the lesser teams surely they have earned the right to keep their spot against the top teams?

and your logic is examplary. maybe as 1990swan said jones doesn't have the tank at this stage to play the role lloyd is playing. that seems a reasonable argument, though only those inside the club would know, but jones has definitely played in the midfield for short spells in the seniors as well as coming off halfback so to say they don't play the same position is not entirely correct and to say he hasn't played even against lesser teams is just wrong.

But if he plays enough games then surely that would increase his chances of performing against a top club eventually? Right?

While you'll find we agree, a lot of us have come to accept that no matter what happens the Vics will whinge about it. It's a really pathetic mentality, looking at other teams and trying to pick out their advantages to explain your own failures. If Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton and Richmond were all top 4/8, you'd hear nothing. But they can't accept that their mediocrity is their own fault, so they look to excuse it by saying "we'd be good if we only got XXXXXX, and it's not fair". It's a loser's mentality, and it willfully ignores the inherent advantages built into the system that their own clubs enjoy.

While i'm not going to wish you guys well this week ;), I do quietly cheer any of the 4 northern clubs whenever they play any of the Vic, S.A or W.A teams.

Jones Vs. Allir for a spot in the team? If I was a Brisbane player I know who I would prefer NOT to play on. Crunch!! How did that truck get on the field?

Reckon the coaches agree as well. Missed 2 games since debut for form purposes. Hitting all the right stats. Legitimate 2 sided player who one hopes will develop a bit further and actually has good skills.

A genuine keeper. NOT a Brownlow chance like Craig Bird unfortunately but a good career AFL player with heart.

Aliir needs to be picked this week to disprove my theory that he turns into a pumpkin at midday.

We have to bring in Aliir or XR as while Brisbane should not be too much of a problem but Big Ted will be out for 3 weeks, meaning we are going to need another key defender in that time. We can't just go with Grundy.

Jones is not necessarily the same player in both scenarios.
Jones does not play the wingman run up and down the ground role. Never has.
Lloyd plays that role very well. He gets to the right positions. Sure he has made some errors (who hasn't?)but not enough for someone to take his spot.
I want Jones in the team but NOT at the expense of Lloyd.

I think as long as Laidler is alright then we can afford to have Grundy, Laidler and Rampe all playing on opposition talls. I'd prefer to see Jones given as many minutes as possible in the next 2 weeks because he's much more likely to be needed in the back-half of the season than Allir or XR, given we will have Richards, Reid and Talia all returning.

To me this is the perfect opportunity to test Aliir or XR out. The next 3 weeks are against opposition we should beat, and with Talia still out for a while we need to test our KPD depth. Imagine if Richards injury took one week longer than expected, and suddenly we only have Grundy as a key defender against Hawthorn.

If they are not going to give Alir a go, I'd much rather Reid come straight back in and go back in defence and show us what he is made of instead of persisting with XR who just isn't up to it.
