Next Saturday sees Essendon play Brisbane for the first time this season, in what looms, in borrowed terms, a "danger" match for Brisbane. Brisbane has, on paper, one of the best lists in the AFL, and should expect to win comfortably over a spirited, but overall lacklustre Essendon. Brisbane will look to expose Essendon's defence, with another defender and one of our most important players, Jordan Ridley, a guaranteed out. This will be an interesting test Brad Scott with the boys facing consecutive interstate games.

Well, we're plucky, and I get the feeling we are going to get sick of term honourable losses by the end of the season, and yet I can't help be feel ok with how the season has gone so far. I'm far more interested in the overall direction of the list and the team, and yet that loss still stings as once again we are exposed in the last quarter and failed to hold or build on our earlier lead.

The last time we met.

It was glorious! A 10-point victory on the back of a monstrous second half from Peter Wright (God, I miss him!) and a four-goal outing from Langforward - Seriously... get better defenders; stop moving Langford back, saw us beat the paddle pops on their home turf in one of the upsets of the season. Let's hope history repeats itself.

The Team

Possible ins:
Durham (Back from Suspension)
Reid (Benched at 1/4 time - To preserve him for Brisbane, or an injury flare-up - It's a mystery)
Baldwin (We might need some more size down back)
Montgomerie (Strong VFL form and a good potential replacement for Rids. We are due for a Debut)
Bryan (Strong again in the VFL.. but still needs to take more marks.)
Snelling (Too good for VFL.)
D'Ambrosio (Could play forward or back, and fill a good spot)
Wanganeen (Give him a go in the AFL, given Davey and Menzie are struggling a bit?)

Possible Outs:
Ridley (Concussion)
Menzies
Hind
Philips
Davey
Hobbs (Not what I want, but I wouldn't be surprised)

Make or break game for us - I think we'll either win by a little or lose by a lot. Essendon by 10 or Brisbane by 40.

I heard Reid didn't play all of the VFL match. Not sure if managed or injured.

I would think Brisbane win this one and I think relatively comfortably.

Kelly - Baldwin - McGrath
Redman - Zerk - Heppell
Durham - Setterfield - Martin
Langford - Weideman - Snelling
Tippa - Phillips - Stringer
Draper - Merrett - Parish
Hobbs - Caldwell - Shiel - Perkins
Montgomerie

feel like we're carrying one midfielder too many

Baldwin moved forward in the VFL this week.

Reckon he or Voss comes in and plays forward and releases Langford back. Or potentially Stringer to the midfield and Setterfield back, in rotations. Can also go small in the midfield and release both back, and then there’s always the break glass option of Weideman.

Good thing about Joe is he’ll probably sit on the fence or stand around waving so you don’t really have to stop him leading up at the ball carrier. Just don’t be a step stool and you’re fine. Also got Mick Hurley on staff who is pretty familiar with playing on him.

If Ridleys jaw aint broken then he may be fine to play?

Montgomerie may be a better matchup for Hipwood then say a Baldwin who may have to go to Daniher a bit more

Hipwood isnt really a huge aerial threat. Redman could be a bold move but he tends to go to C.Cameron. I wouldnt be against Mcgrath being challenged here J.Kelly also can do it to some degree

He was concussed so must miss a game (10 days technically).

Montgomerie in for mine. Davey will be a good player but will presumably be out given the 1 week on, 1 week off policy he seems to be subject to (which would have him back for Dreamtime!).

Don't like our chances in this one. If get within 5 goals, it will be a pass mark. Hope it rains.

One of Baldwin or Montgomery playing on Daniher or Hipwood doesn’t really appeal as a great match up.

Do you roll the dice and ask Nick Bryan to play in defence? He’s better equipped than the other two and feel
like he played in defence at VFL level quite a bit in his first year or two.
Bryan ran a 2.89sec 20m at draft camp. Not sure about his endurance and if those guys will blow him up but would be interesting to see him have a go down back with his reach and probably our best bet.

I am expecting the 4th loss in the row this week, no chance of a repeat of last year's upset win. McKenna and Daniher will rip the bombers apart with a bagful of goals. 6-7 thrashing expected.

Not sure who plays on Gunston. Zerk goes to Daniher and Baldwin to Hipwood. Kelly needs to do his usual blanket job on Cameron and McGrath on McCarthy. Might have to throw Montie on Gunston

Other end, Starcevich on Stringer, Andrews on Weideman and Payne on the ruck. Lester maybe on Langford? Not sure about small match ups, but hoping McKenna on Walla
