What about the clown asking him about Lamumba talking to club legal people? what do they think he is going say? Seriously a primary school kid could have deflected that one. Wasted half the presser trying to get him to say something he was never going to say
I love the way our coach goes about it. He just gives truthful, reasonable responses so the journos have to go somewhere else to try and get a headline (or to stir up more trouble).

Reef for Bianco

I liked Fly's "Yeah, we're playing the Bulldogs!" to the journo, getting back on track, rather than continuing with the Lumumba stuff.

Well done Fly - handled idiot muck raking reporters very well - must be hard being in the same room as those clowns.

The Reporters are often sent to ask these questions. It's not always their own decision. If you work for a commercial paper /TV channel your boss may well be asking for this stuff. It sells papers. If you want the job you often have to do things you may well rather not.

It;s not always the caee and there is peaty of clowns but there is also as certain amount clown stuff that is mandated.

My preferences (assuming they don't bring Billy back)

Bianco - Reef - someone who can place their back line under pressure and play out of the square
Cox - Begg - play ruck and can outpoint Stefan Martin given English out with flu
Madgen - Brown - just takes pressure off Moore to allow him to focus on Naughton
Poulter - sub

I guess if they want to ask questions mandated by their ratings chasing masters that's their job - not a gig I could stomach for more than 30: minutes.

Now: let’s keep playing the same old mediocre incumbents WHE, Madgen, Brown bros… leave the kids in the twos all year

Cue 2 years from now: gee finishing mid table in 2022/23 and not playing kids like Poulter, Macrae and Ruscoe etc has really held us back now that all our senior players have retired and most of our youth has still only played under 50 games 🤦‍♂️
NM model is not the answer.

Yup, agree with this 100%. We need to know if these kids are going to cut it or not.

1) if these kids can play, we attack FA & senior players.

2) if these kids can’t play, we have to hit the draft board again.
You’ll only know if they can cut it by picking them when ready - otherwise premature delisting is certain.

Look at NM, spudding it up with the same approach.
Begg is the exception not the rule.

I think it is a great time to blood youth, like Begg, not only are we not in a top 4 mode we have good senior experience for the youngsters to play with, lets compare the oldest 8-10 from the weekend between pies and North from oldest to youngest.

Pendlebury, Scott
Howe, Jeremy
Sidebottom, Steele
Madgen, Jack (unused sub)
Mihocek, Brody
Adams, Taylor
Crisp, Jack
Hoskin-Elliott, Will
Cameron, Darcy
de Goey, Jordan

VS

Goldstein, Todd
Ziebell, Jack
Greenwood, Hugh
Walker, Josh
Anderson, Jed
Corr, Aidan
McDonald, Luke
Turner, Kayne
McKay, Ben
Simpkin, Jy

We've got some real senior experience that can be out there helping the young kids out.

We've got some real senior experience that can be out there helping the young kids out.

It’s a good point you make. The question is how much youth or inexperience is too much? That North team had an average age of 24yr 7mth. Got flogged by 78 points by a team with an average age of 23yr 7mth. We were average age 25yr 3mth, got done by 27 points by a team aged 27yr 0mth.

It’s overly simplistic though to just look at that in isolation as though it gives definitive answers.

Just as comparisons of <50 game players in isolation doesn’t.

What history tells us though is that there is a breaking point. I’d rather not unnecessarily go looking for it. If there was anyone in the VFL who’s form justified inclusion who wasn’t getting a game then you could justify further changes, but as things stand posters don’t want the players who do play well getting games. Players like Cal & Tyler Brown, and Bianco. To me, that’s more about personal preference rather than valid justification.
