Would have been a hell of a game for the neutral spectator. Me on the other hand. My pacemaker exploded. I almost drowned in a pool of sweat, and my dog is no longer talking to me.
 
3 losses on the trot but I think we did that last season too and ended up playing finals. So everything is fine. No really. No stress.

    Well what a game that was. We almost made the glorious comeback. We even played the fourth quarter this week. We forgot to play the 3rd but let's not get bogged down in that. Some top drawer performances this week too (again). Phar Ace pinch hitting in the ruck with 10 hitouts, getting plenty of ball around the ground (28 touches) and kicking 3 goals. Is there anything he can't do? DERRINALPHIL also had his customary double-digit hit outs and also helped himself to 22 around the ground and snagged a pair of beauties himself. Stalwarts 3KZ is Football and fitzroybowiedog turned back the clock with 25 and 23 possies respectively. HinkleysHeroes stepped up with 3 goals of his own while TheGoalBaron kicked 4.4 and Mooch snagged a pair. Teacher's pet royboy2 was gifted 7 free kicks. OK I'll conced he did lay 7 ironman tackles too. JackNah_8 and _Mike_ played the aerial game close to perfection with 8 marks each.

    Really fun thread against the Old Boys, reflected in our highest match thread post count for the season. Mobbs led the charge of course and TheGoatBaron kept up his usual pace. It was great to see Elmer_Hauser back in the swing of it too. Phar Ace and _Mike_ with their highest post counts of the year, and even 3KZ is Football made double figures. Happy days.

    Next week we're off to the other side of Sweet to face a West Coast coming off the back a spanking by the Dragons and currently sitting a couple of percentage points above us. So this one is a must win. Let's get out there and own the Colosseum.

    • Our presentation in match threads has been gradually solidifying. For Round 9, for the first time, we enjoyed 7 players having reached the grand status of 5 or more posts in a match thread for that and the previous two rounds. This is the main metric I use to judge our team's participation value. DERRINALPHIL joined this esteemed club on the weekend, following the addition of Elmer_Hauser and _Mike_ the round prior. Phar Ace and JackNah_8 are shaping up to get into the dark green next week, and fitzroybowiedog floats not far behind.

    Honestly, I'm probably on my final few years. I've done SQ VS NQ twice, I've done Under 16 National Championships, I did one season of NEAFL (That was my third season as well. My only regret was it was way too soon for me and I didn't handle it well).

    I expect we don't have Mooch tonight as he is probably still celebrating down in Melbs.

    I don't collect playing stats so I got nothing for you there, but I can provide Participation (posting) stats!

    We had 16 players show for our thread this week, this is our highest for the season, while still certainly down from previous seasons as we continue to rejig in the post-TDC era.

    Shoutout to JackNah_8 who reached what I guess I can call "full pace", referring to a strong presence three rounds running. They now join _Mike_ 3KZ is Football DERRINALPHIL Elmer_Hauser TheGoatBaron Mooch Phar Ace and myself in the dark green. We have 8 others showing some colour over the past 3 weeks, with 4 players yet to grace us with their presence, and 2 ( Aristotle Pickett and judge judy ) who have gone somewhat quiet. Also a welcome back to Chezzalenko Reborn and Ed_Gein who have popped in this week after some absence.

    Another shoutout this time to windyhill who popped in for a career personal best 9 spams this week in his 150th game, bettering even his 7 chatties in the S33 Grand Final ( which we won :) )

    Anywhats, that stuff's boring so here's the basic table of spamliness:

    A great win for the Roys today, reversing the recent slump which saw us lose 3 on the trot. The Wonders did a job on us in Rd 2 last season, it was quite the demolition job on top of the comeback win against us in the praccy a couple weeks earlier. That had been on my mind ever since, and returning the favour was the theme of the day as we scored nearly as much in the first half as the Wonders could manage for the entire day.

    However it was not without its scares as the folks from the Colosseum did mount a couple of counter-offensives to keep us on our toes. But the workrate of such players as onballer royboy2 and ruck behemoth DERRINALPHIL kept the supply going to our potent forward line, where TheGoatBaron loomed large and goaty, ably supported by HinkleysHeroes and Dicky Fitzwell .

    Down in defence, the lineup was a new experiment with a number of changes, and those changes continued during the day as we kept sorting out the optimum stopper system to negate the Wonders' firepower. windyhill was fired up generalling the half back line on his big day, and Eat Fresh came into the team fresh and eating, to offer some vim and vigour in the rear. I would have more to say about my company down back but I was busy disciplining myself for not finding a real captain for our team in a season and a half.

    We host the Dragons next week, and they will be fired up after a dismaying result today. They'll be breathing fire when they arrive at the BJO - but ok that's kind of cheating 'cause it's not even a metaphor, or wouldn't be if dragons are real.

    But gorillas ARE real, and it's getting real in Season 38! One spot out of the finals right now, and on the way up!

    In an overall quiet thread there was a clear hierarchy of favourites from the Furies. Thus:

    Literally everybody voted Frothies Mcveigh a third spot. Congrats Frothies!

    And again unanimous was the vote for the first place, which was won by ShaunDuggan !

    Barrels Award - Round 9 (v OOBs)​

    The next round we met the OOBs, and where the previous week was a quiet one, this definitely was anything but.

    So much so that almost every set of votes for the Barrels Award spilled out of the usual 321 mode and went into decimals, fractions and scoreless approvals.

    But I'm a nerd so I did go ahead and tally everything up. And because it was an insane vote tally, I will share the numbers with you, the audience, and you, the webcrawlers who service Google in the seedy underbelly of an evening.

    In EIGHTH place is Dingster with 0.9 points. Deftly done, Ding!
    In SEVENTH place is Tigerturbulance, with 1.1 points. Terrific total Turbo!
    In SIXTH place is kenneyswarriors with 1.6 points. Classy carry-on Kenney!
    In FIFTH place is Braklet with 2.4 points. Bonzah bally-hoo Braks!
    In FOURTH place is Robertio with 3.4 points. Ripper rendition Rob!
