News Rucci: Travis Boak may or may not renew contract at Port Adelaide (Part 2)

You'd be fairly naive to believe you weren't doing some 'chasing' too. At least that's the clear impression I got from Brayshaw's comments on the Footy Show tonight. In addition to some other Vic clubs who didn't get a look in according to Damian Barrett.

Anyhoo, as I've said, the clear indications are he'll stay. Just wish he'd announce it cos I think most of us are over it.

My gut feel here is that his manager presented some options to him should he want to consider returning to Vic, given family was a big factor for him.
Its been stated many times, and by Boak himself that he loves the club, but that family was an issue he had to consider.
In doing so I expect his manager/Boak discussed Geelong given his family location, and also canvassed other clubs and the Kangaroos offering was best of the Melbourne based clubs for whatever reason, money/opportunities/relationships/where club list is at etc.

So Boaks decision would basically come down to, stay at Port or go home, once hes made that decision he could consider the Victorian offers if he wanted to go that way, or (as seems to be the case) stick with Port.

Again, if he was to decide to return, Geelong seems to be his preferred destination based on locality, but if the Kangaroos offer was significantly better than Geelongs he may be willing to be a bit further from home ...
Additionally if he had decided to go the Vic option - perhaps if the Kangaroos were more in line with our demands in terms of trade, he may have gone that way as well. To date the Kangaroo posters have seemed in general a little more generous with his worth.

North Melbourne supporters in the most part are a failry sane bunch and they are realists.

Tha same can't be said for a lot of clubs supporters including our own.

He would cost us our 1st round pick and a player that wished to change clubs.

If not, it would come down to our 1st and 2nd round picks.

Port will likely offer Boak the best package.

We will never know the best financial package, no doubt your offer would be attractive financially, we do have bonus of being the encumbant and he does love playing here.

LOL you should have been here when Daniel Motlop decided to play for Port. ;)

No doubt.

I don't believe he has any issues at all with the PAFC.

Geelong is the closest destination for family and North would be his best match from a home state footballing perspective.

Understandable. We did carry the bloke through injury for a long period and then he ups and goes on a whim just as he arrives as a player.

The trade indirectly resuted in us picking up our captain, so karma was restored.

Fair point but the North supporters in general around BF are cool. moomba on the soccer board and Blackshadow on the music board are two that spring to mind. Donny Moltop used to frustrate everyone didn't he?

Your right Footyhead, North Melbourne posters are heaps cool but their a bit touchy, there not letting me back in, Let me in North, let me in, I said I was sorry, anyway lucky I have a insider Still there. {wink wink}

brayshaw on the footy show says that North Melbourne also spoke with Boak.

We had already heard those rumours, but the club president is confirming them on the footy show

Did I hear him admit to making a financial offer to a contracted player?

Just "not an official one"?

Interesting.

Kangaroos president James Brayshaw said while the club had not put an official offer to the 23-year-old, they had given an indication of what they were willing to put forward.

"It was more a case of you sit down with someone and say 'If you decide to come home, this is what it could look like,'" Brayshaw told the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show.

Nah, it's not an offer.

Tell you what though, I think Port and North are better suited to get a deal done that is win-win for both clubs. Better than any potential Geelong-Port deal.

Sounds a lot like making an offer to a contracted player to me.

Are you kidding?

Clubs would NEVER do that stuff.

Motlop would have played with the Burgoynes for free.

Wait.

So now we have Norf supporters coming here suggesting Travis is even the slightest remotest chance of being there next year?

This is brilliant.

Loyalty is a highly underrated trait and indeed commodity. Successful sides and by extension clubs are built on it and it's something I love to see in a player and a club. If Boak does leave it appears it will not be for cash but for family, and as long as both club and player have a strong relationship it is the only real reason for walking away from a club but still maintaining ones credibility.

I'd actually like to see him stay at Port, but if he does walk it appears he would do so for the right reasons. As such I'd be happy to take him at North aside from the obvious reason of ability.

Let's be realistic. North wouldn't have made Boak a formal contract offer but they sure as hell would've discussed ball park figures (such as length and $$$). Of course, by "what it would look like" Brawshaw may have meant that they simply showed Boak a picture of what he would look like photoshopped into a North geurnsey...

He's not leaving. Appreciate the nice sentiments and all, but which part of "horse" and "bolted" don't you all understand?
Even Brad Scott reckons he'll stay.
