On the Greg Lynn committal proceedings Crown Prosecutor Mr Dickie said 'It is clear hopefully from the document, and if it's not clear from the document it's clear hopefully from the charges put before the court, that it is alleged of course that the accused acted with murderous intent when he allegedly killed the two victims.'

Reported on news today that a gas bottle was deliberately ignited starting the campsite fire.

Maybe the coppers have traced the gas bottle purchase back to the Patrol owner.

Im sensing an arrest soon.

I would of thought it wasnt theres, fair play.

But what I am thinking about at the moment is the big black shadow cast at the rear top of the blue patrol....

Whatever is creating that shadow on the perps roof appears to be protruding out past the truck approx 300mm-400mm...

I'm trying to think of what long thing would a 4wd hunter; camper; holiday maker; etc; have or need that may be approx 3.5mtrs long? ....(Allowing for the shadow length, and the length of the patrol's roof) ...

It would not be the side mount roll out awwning... (What about a surfboard?) - referencing the (seaside) seagulls in the pics a member posted regarding a look alike rig from a few days ago... Answer - Probably not a surfboard so, what then?

The French student surfer who vanished in Feb 19, did his bones not appear days before Poshik Sharma disappears in July 19 ? They always go back they say.

Why not run camera checks on main roads there and back from 10-15th of July for the Blue Toyota, i mean, serial killer, why not ?

I cant think of any traffic cameras anywhere else near the Gatta apart from the ones up at Hotham, being a snow route and all.
The other two routes dont have cameras on them anywhere AFAIK, closest would probably be like around Bairnsdale, Traralgon, Moe etc. Not very useful.

I had it marysville then south to melbourne, as i thought the surfer was lost and found there then realise it was marysville east to the coast for the surfers. I will recount my thoughts, i was thinking of the drive between the surfers placement and poshik in marysville. Scusi my typing and bloating the page

For the shadow I reckon it's the same structure causing the shadow on the drivers door. Like a streetlight on the side of the road.. With the camera pointing directly that way it'd make sense to have a light lighting up the area for clearer photos/videos.

What are the consequences now if the coppers go for the arrest but can't charge him with the evidence they have got? Will that be prejudicial against future attempts to charge?

I assume by now the coppers have the Patrol drivers details and evidence that places him at the gatta over the weekend (mobile phone pings matching the times the car was photographed on Great Alpine Road).

Maybe they just need to go for the arrest and grill him/her and/or accomplices. Are they obliged to give the coppers an explanation of their activities in the Wonnangatta over the weekend if questioned? Or can they simply refuse to answer questions from the coppers?

From earlier in this thread: "Spoke to my old man on the weekend about this who works for DELWP in the high country. He told me he has seen The Button Man a few times but has never had any issues with him. He told me stories of a really strange guy that lives in Abbeyard near Mt Buffalo that he often drives past that has had a lot of run ins with people. This guy got a girlfriend a few years ago who eventually moved in with him up in his hut, she stayed there for a while but was actually found dead in the bush by some hunters last year, the old man tells me police are 100% sure this guy up there killed her but they can't pin it on him. Dad told me a couple of stories about him including having to tell him to remove wires he had strung up across the river to try and stop canoes and kayaks and telling him off for trying to bleed deer that he has killed in the river. One that crept me out the most was that a colleague of his was camped in a hut up there a few weeks ago while baiting feral dogs which this guy has a problem with. Around 3am a truck pulls up out the front of his hut and just starts revving it's engine, so this guy walks out and taps on the window, he rolls it down and says "lovely evening isn't it" and drives off. The police later charged him with breaching covid restrictions for this funnily enough. Anyway, the old man says Wonnangatta is part of what he considers his 'turf' and thinks that this guy is much more likely to have something to do with it than the button man."

High Country murder mystery sealed in silence
Nobody reported Sam Wilson’s 2018 disappearance. And a wall of silence followed when her body was found at a lonely bush site.

Abbeyard is not far from Wonnangatta at all. I have seen his FB page and is a very keen deer hunter. Since the news of the Patrol I can't find him anymore.

They won’t make an arrest if they haven’t got enough evidence to substantiate a charge. Ideally they’d likely want to hold off until they know they won’t get any further advantage by delaying any longer.

If they have a prime suspect under surveillance it’s a fair chance the suspect is aware they’re in the frame.

According to this article they have narrowed car down to:

“The vehicle has been narrowed down to a five-door wagon “GU” model Nissan Patrol Series 1, built between 1997 and 2001.”

Just on the trailer, that top could be home-made, could be someone has taken a CT and modified it, or bought one where the top was shot so removed it and replaced it with a home-made covering of some sort. Assuming it had off-road capabilities, it's unlikely to be a standard 6 x 4. If it is a modified CT, might be easier to store items beneath the cover, if say the cover just flips up on a hinge for access - including bodies prior to it being captured in that photo.
Sorry, a few of you seem to have delved into this deeply, so apologies if this was covered, I've only read the last 7-8 pages, but have given a lot of thought to this case since it happened.

Maybe they need to make an arrest and use the 3 days they can hold someone without charge to grill them with questioning to see if they crack. Also subpoena their vehicle for testing etc etc. Subpoena their bank records to see if a purchase for a gas bottle swapover can be matched to the gas bottle used in the fire to destroy the campsite.

I don't see how there can be much more evidence gathered (Patrol confirmed to be seen near the campsite of couple on the night they went msising, Patrol confirmed attempting to leave the "Gatta via Myrtleford, turning around at a closed gate and then being photographed at Mt Hotham 4 hours later, mobile phone pings of suspect matching time of Mt Hotham Great Alpine Rd images).

As I said in an earlier post, I reckon we’ll see an arrest soon.

Once they show their hand the lose the opportunity to pick up anything via bugs or phone taps etc. If they wait they lose nothing - the arrest option will always be available.

It’s for that reason I think an arrest is close - they are subtly prodding their suspect to hopefully generate some talk or suspicious behaviour which can be used as evidence.

Unless they get a confession the coppers will get very little in the way of useful evidence post arrest.

Will be interesting to see how far away an arrest actually is but I doubt any suspect who was driving a blue patrol and was in the gatta on the weekend of the disappearance will be divulging much over the phone, they must surely know they are a target of the investigation by now. I just don't see much more evidence being gathered for this investigation without subpoenaing suspects and their vehicles/trailers etc.

Yeah looks like that to me doesn’t fully fit so more like a camping pro putting something on top to tie down.

This is brilliant , thank you! I live in Mansfield and have not heard of this at all.

They will need hard evidence to make an arrest. DNA from the trailer, fingerprints on Hill's car, at least matching tyre tracks from the scene, a witness, a confession! He doesn't have to answer questions, a lawyer will tell him that. They need to find the bodies.
