Ryan Crowley tests positive to banned substance (Opposition supporters tread carefully)

I dont get why the AFL has taken so long to announce this! If Crowley gets done similar to Saad he will obviously retire leaving you guys short a player. You could have picked up an extra player. I expect the AFL to come down hard, similarly to Saad, even though if it is a pain killer then he probly didnt know. Shit news.

My first reaction was to laugh at Crowley testing positive

However, if what the dockers are saying is correct that it was a painkiller that caused the positive test, then IMO Crowley joins saad as a player who did something dumb rather than being a raging drug cheat. Unfortunate for him but with a positive test he's staring down a season ban at least. Would be a shame if this ended his career because as much as he annoys me as a player he has worked hard to achieve what he has and doesn't deserve have his career ended with a "drug cheat " label

Trouble is the excuse from both a raging drug cheat and someone stupid tends to be the same "I didn't know, it was an accident."

My first thought is maybe we should not have given WC supporters so much drug related smart arse jokes. Because they are about to all come back
Apples and oranges mate.

so if Crowley has a headache and hes at home or whatever, he has to go in all the way to see a team doctor to get given some tablets? Sounds ridiculous to me.

Yep, that is the regime that all AFL players live under, and it's why it's silly for people to get worked up against people testing positive. These guys are simply not allowed to take medications that the rest of us are, it's pretty stupid.

Not good enough, when you work up north and your sick and you have to fly out you check and have non-pseudoephedrine flu meds. Its his own fault the rules are pretty clear.

The rules being clear doesn't make the rules any less stupid.

There are plenty of stupid laws and rules.

Thinking out aloud... somebody mentioned eariler in the thread about the headaches Ryan was getting after games. If that was proved to be true in any way and he is subsequently banned for taking pain medication because of headaches, could this lead to any future legal recourse?

Methinks I'm clutching at a few straws...

I think it stinks how people are so quick to stick the boot in. I know oppo supporters dislike Crowley and think he is a pain in the ass etc. I am no different. Its a bloody credit to him that oppo fans feel that way bece he has performed such a maligned role in footy so very well for a long time. I met Crowley on a flight overseas and he was a nice dude.

Nevertheless, this is a guys livelihood on the line and it seems that he has made a silly mistake and taken a pain killer not thinking that it may be banned. We hav all made silly decisions and i feel sorry for him that this is likely to end his career. I hope the club gets behind him as well as the Freo fans...

It is certainly a hard lesson to learn but I am sure that players these days will become even more focused on these types of things.
