Ryan Crowley tests positive to banned substance (Opposition supporters tread carefully)

Ahhh it's all good for mine. He will be remembered as a great clubman, tagger and character who did that stupid thing at the end of his career. This won't be his legacy which is more than can be said for those in similar situations

you have more class than that - most have sympathy for a dumb mistake

I get paid well to not **** up in my chosen profession.

I just hold others to the same standard.

It's an interesting concept if we loose crowls....we' ve had a tagger for so long, and with ryan gone perhaps we'll play more attacking football?? Crowley hardly missed a game in the last 3 years...Other-sides do ok without a strong tagger (Hawks, port)? we'll see how this pans out, it may not be bad to remove the negating role ryan plays... Is it better to have a tagger or not?
It's a fair question. He is 31, and a tagger is a non-essential role in footy. I hope Crowley gets off, but if not it may force Lyon to rethink roles and strategies and might end up as a long term good thing for the club.

My biggest fear this year was going in with a similar team to the past three years and just expecting it to all happen again. Crowley was one of the players I saw as expendable. But with that in mind I still hope he's cleared.

And he got it.

I'm here too. Opposition supporters, as the thread title suggests, tread carefully.

Booyah, Doss is in the room. A veteran with 2 years service on the frontline.

I hope you're on double time :D

Well at least now we know what's up, just not the specifics surrounding it. I still love Crowley, and I really hope for the best out of it all. Good on the club for keeping this completely out of the media and creating the environment Crowls needs to get through it. Given the timing he wouldn't still be on our list if there was anything suss.

My profession has similar drug rules and sometimes it's just hard to know. I know more than one person that's had their medical taken off them because of what a doctor prescribed.

They say he tested positive to a banned substance, and on further testing, it was confirmed. No misunderstanding when it comes to the actual ASADA rules, maybe a misunderstanding on Ryans part, but we've seen in the past, ignorance is not an excuse.

Yeah we got that, you were posting with such authority I thought you knew what the substance was.

All good

I haven't read through this whole thread but the way I see it, Crowley's career is over. Stupid stupid man whether he knew he was doing the right thing or not with all that has happened with ASADA over the last few years the club and the AFL would have put every player through some form of training letting each player know the risks of taking unprescribed drugs.

Because of this stupid move byCrowley he will never play AFL again. Sad but that's reality. Deboer or MZ are going to have to step in to his shoes now and it will just allow one of our younger guys to step in and fill a void. Tanner Smith should get upgraded from the rookie list now also I think.

Easy guys. Dude has made a stupid mistake. He has also been the most hated guy in AFL for doing his thing week in week out for this club. He's one of ours

Not enough likes for this post :thumbsu:

Haha, no authority, just thought it was pretty clear cut, as far as he's tested positive, we all know that, there's little "misunderstanding" I would have thought. Unless there is some sort of valid reason for taking whatever it was. I can't see how there would be one though.

Shocking news. Sounds innocent but careless so far. Can't form an opinion without all the facts. Unfortunately, it will no doubt affect his season even if he is given a slap on the wrist. I fear his suspension will be identical to Saad's.

It's a shame. I love Crowley's pestering and tagging in games. Except when he does it to us of course.

Best of wishes for him.

Gutted for our guy. Most likely a stupid mistake which in a worst case may end his career. Hopefully it is dealt with quickly in a transparent fashion and does not distract the club into the season.
