Funny was just chatting to a mate who had some info this morning. We are interviewing some of the local physio's. Did not come across that we we overly organised though.

Regardless of the truth, I've decided to blithely ignore this message, and prefer to dwell on the one before.

Please don't be offended.

“I’m a coach myself in the hockey realms, and talking to a few colleagues who know Justin Longmuir well, I know that JL is someone who I’d really like to work with.

“Having spent time in Cairns with Melbourne at the same hotel as Fremantle late in the 2020 season, I just couldn’t believe how young and vibrant they were and I was really impressed with how humble and respectful they were as well. They were probably the two main factors.”

Well f*** me, that's nice to read.

Haggers does not like this and has put you on his ignore list!

After reading this, I had to put on a tune. Seemed appropriate.

Obviously that’s an excellent stint to be at the Hawks, and I also distinctly remember posting compliments to Melbourne’s S&C team this year when looking around the comp at clubs who have improved their programs (their availability was great - not his fault the team just sucks).
Looks to be a great appointment on paper.

Melbourne has Burgess as well, so I am guessing he was a junior.

He was strength and conditioning/rehabilitation manager so had some seniority

Yep, agree. Looks like a good pickup. Worked under too good fitness people.

FITNESS BOSS READY TO GET TO WORK
Mark Duffield / The West Australian
---
A cool head, not easily rattled - that is view of past proteges on Fremantle’s new fitness guru Phil Merriman whose appointment was announced yesterday.

He was an assistant fitness coach at Melbourne in 2020 and at least one key staffer at Fremantle is familiar with him. Senior assistant coach David Hale worked with Merriman during his time at Hawthorn during the Hawks’ premiership three-peat earlier this decade.
Merriman will succeed former strength and conditioning coach Jason Weber who parted company with the Dockers after 12 years.
One of Merriman’s first jobs will be working to reverse a recent trend of injury affected seasons for the Dockers, who didn’t play a game in 2020 with fewer than six of their nominal best 22 absent from the team.
Some of those injuries were unavoidable with Alex Pearce in recovery after a leg fracture which required further surgery and Joel Hamling suffering a serious ankle injury in the off-season after an awkward fall during a summer training session.
Griffin Logue missed two thirds of the season with turf toe and youngsters Sam Sturt and Hayden Young suffered significant ankle issues.
Steph Hill has battled a series of soft tissue injuries in the past two seasons, Jesse Hogan had a calf issue this year and the club tried unsuccessfully for four years to get Harley Bennell onto the field before his departure.
Merriman joins Fremantle from Melbourne but spent seven years at Hawthorn between 2011 and 2017 when he was rehabilitation manager and physical performance coach as the Hawks won three flags.
He became acting physical performance manager at Melbourne in the back half of the 2019 season after the club re-structured its strength and conditioning mid-season after a disastrous summer.
Dockers football manager Peter Bell said Merriman had worked under renowned fitness coaches Darren Burgess at Melbourne, Andrew Russell at Hawthorn and John Quinn who has worked with Essendon and GWS.
“We feel that Phil’s knowledge, expertise, demeanour and enthusiasm will make hi a valuable member of our team for a long period of time,” he said.
Merriman said the Dockers playing group made an impression on him during time spent spent in a Cairns in the hub.
“I just couldn’t believe how young and vibrant they were and I was really impressed with how humble and respectful they were,” he said.
“I would like to get to a point where the players know their bodies can hold up and perform, whether we have a two day break or an eight day break.”

With all these new club appointees- who we gonna blame for losing and not making finals anymore??
We haven't blamed the hardness of the turf a Cockburn for a while. It's about time, isn't it?

I'm with you on Alcock. Anyone who's been highly involved for that many years no good can come from it
