They showed him dive for a free on Fox.

What's going on? It didn't look good, I must admit.

Well could you explain what happened? When did he dive? Why did they show it? Did it get a free kick? Was it really a dive?

Well could you explain what happened?

Scott West dived for a free kick.

When did he dive?

Today.

Why did they show it?

They compared it to Buckley's dive.

Did it get a free kick?

Yes.

Was it really a dive?

Yes.

Thankyou, now that is an explanation. :thumbsu:

Gotta say I'm very surprised, Ive never seen the great man dive for a free in his life. Will wait to see it first before passing judgement though.

Was this the one where Ablett grabbed him by the sides and he fell forward like it was a push in the back? (i know someone dived from the bullies, can't remember who) It went all the way upfield and the bulldogs got a goal from it.

It wasn't that bad a dive, more a terrible decision by the umpire. He virtually ran straight towards Tenace who was almost standing still, but braced himself for the bump after which West bounced off him and went to ground like he'd been hit by someone running in even time.

Scott West was running trying to pick up his man, Tenace met him with an unnecessary bump, and thus impeded Wests ability to pick up his man. It was not a big bump, and West made the most of it.
The free was there however as Tenace did not have to confront West, and the ball was not in play. Technical free, and as I said West made sure the umpire saw it.
As opposed to Buckley who was not being manhandled and managed to throw himself to the ground becasue he realised he ws not goign to mark the ball.

Agree that technically it was a free, but as always the point of contention comes in consitency. If they paid a free kick every time a player was bumped off the ball the game would degenerate into a farce.

Good point catempire. I think that is the one thing which frustrates we supporters. Umps dig a hole for themselves very quickly when they start making such decisions, as they then must use it as a precedent, which then as you suggest turns things into a farce.
2 teams put on a great exhibition of tough uncompromising pressure football today, both worthy of a win. The umpires on the other hand were the only ones today who had their colours lowered.

Exactly. I never found myself saying, "why didn't they pay that?" it was always, "why the f$% don't they just LET IT GO?". At times they were ruining what was otherwise a great spectacle.

I think the umpires confused even themselves a couple of times in the first half (why signal advantage after every player has stopped?). At one point it seemed the game was moving too fast for the umpries to keep up.

It was an obvious free kick. Shepherding is illegal when the ball is more than 5 metres away.

Catnip One point loss observation

One eyed 'rant' version

Dead set dive and no free kick. Degree of difficulty - zero. Points awarded, Four to the Western Bulldogs. West, Elliot Ness and Mark Ruccutio star in the latest version of 'The Untouchables'. Get stuffed you green maggots: Another match decided by you one ball half men.

Objective version

While West possibly dived on the ground to milk a free kick, the Cats were very undisciplined at various stages of the match and this probably cost Geelong the game. Eagleton and Cooney decisive players in that last quarter but a much better performance by Brad Ottens a positive for the Cats.
