Round 13

Agechamp was once again the pick of the rookies off the back of 16 disposals, 14 hitouts and two goals after starting on the bench in the Hawks' win over the Warriors. Once again, posting let him down as he failed to post in this week's match thread. Round 9 Rising Star nominee JackBero dominated in the middle for the Furies as he racked up 28 touches and eight tackles while keeping his opponent to 11 touches for the day. This week's nominee was impressive on a half back flank, collecting 20 disposals, four marks and three tackles despite the Bombers going down to the Dragons. I caught up with Metalcrusher and Bombers' captain, Tony Lynn 15, for a chat.​


Metalcrusher

BB: Congratulations on your nomination. You picked up 20 disposals on a half back flank. How would you rate your performance?

M: It's a team game. No one person can lift a trophy without the support of the rest of the team. Obviously, I am shocked and surprised to be nominated after 4 games. It is a great privilege. The ultimate goal is premiership glory. From Beirut to Baghdad, all souls and Allah be willing, we shall take home the greatest prize. Together, as a team, we shall build a shrine of our teams greatness and built an everlasting legacy for future Qooty players to follow. The secret is flanking manoeuvres and weight of numbers. When a ball is in dispute, all must attack, then spread.

BB: This was the first time you've beaten your opponent this season. What did you do differently in the lead up to this week?

M: This was the first, recognised time … on camera I have beaten someone. Rumours have abounded about mistreatment of opposition players, but that cannot be further from the truth. It is a regular thing in my country and something I am proud of. It builds character. It grows respect, respect is something that should be aspired to. Respect is a pillar of growth.

BB: How are you enjoying Sweet FA and the Bombers?

M: This has been a wonderful, exhilarating foray into the deeper depths of BF. A wise man once said, look into the deepest, darkest corners and you shall see the truth. A truth that sometimes contradicts the edict of the time. A truth that, often, one is not comfortable with. From great discomfort, shall yield greater strength and unity. In the dark becomes the light.

BB: Sounds like Wayno's high again. Congratulations on the nomination and good luck for the rest of the season.


Tony Lynn 15

BB: Two Bombers nominations in a row and three in the last four weeks. After a slow start to the season, the Bombers now have the most Rising Star nominations for S28. How does that make you feel as captain of these kids?

TL15: This is an absolute vindication of our youth policy. We went hard in the rookie draft this season and it is now starting to bare fruit. We have been shoulder to the grindstone and nose to the wheel. all hands on deck and are taking it one fake match at a time. I have run out of cliches but yeah we are very happy.

BB: Where did you find Metalcrusher and what has he brought to the Bombers lineup?

TL15: Metalcrusher is part of the KohPhi Qooty Factory. He was a natural for the Bombers and the SFA. He is our enforcer and we all walk a lot taller with him around.

BB: Where should we meet next week?

TL15: Great question. The public toilets have lost a bit of it's excitement so maybe we could try it out in public next time?

BB: Sounds like a plan. You bring the rookie and I'll bring the crowd. Thanks for your time.

This round was one to forget for the rookie class of season 28 as only eight of 30 rookies managed to beat their opponents and only two of those did so comprehensively. One of those was the Gumbies' latest recruit, Gratees, who picked up 21 disposals and five marks on a half forward flank while keeping his opponent to five touches. His performance was good enough to see him earn a place in the Baz Stats Team of the Week but no posts in this week's match thread means he's overlooked for a nomination this week. The other was round 4 nominee, cadsky, who collected 24 disposals, seven marks and two goals at the other end of the ground to Gratees. Of the other six players to beat their opponents, one has already been nominated (Dr Mantis Taboggan) while the other five combined for a grand total of one match thread post. Let's hope Round 15 looks better for the rookies on and off the qooty field.
