I know we have a few threads up on the current mess but I didn't want this to get lost in the sea of posts because I think we need to achieve a specific outcome. Making life uncomfortable and unstable for the club begins here.

The absolute legend that is Stickerman showed very clearly that public embarrassment is a very effective tool for getting this issue in the media.

I understand that many are choosing to not attend the showdown in protest, and I am fully supportive of people who feel that way. I'll also be not attending starting in round 1 2023. But consider that the club doesn't care. They don't care about your attendance or not. The crowd figure won't be low, because it's a showdown, so it's not like we can keep people away, get a 15,000 and use that against the club.

What will get to them is a very widespread, very public anti-Hinkley, anti-Koch sentiment. They hate the blowtorch being applied to them, they hate losing control of the narrative.

Many of you will remember my Sack Hinkley banner, which I took in the final round of 2018. I was pretty bitterly abused for it by the people sitting around me at the time. That banner is coming to the showdown and from my front row seat on the outer wing, i'll be doing everything I can to get it on TV.

I'm putting it to everyone reading this to get a piece of cardboard or a bedsheet, some black paint, and to make a sign.

"Sack Hinkley"
"Sack Koch"
"Hinkley Out"
"Koch Out"
"Time for Change"

Something simple, punchy and effective. You've now got over a week to make it. Further, if you've got some non-BigFooty friends or family who feel the same way we do, get them on board. Let them know that there will definitely be at least 1 other banner in the front row of bay 133 and that they are fighting the good fight by doing this.

My Sack Hinkley banner might not make the news by itself, it didn't quite make the magnitude of splash I was hoping for last time. But if we have a banner in every bay, it becomes impossible for the club to ignore. The media can't spin that we're a small minority of supporters when there's banners everywhere.

If someone is genuine about organising a skywriter or similar, I would happily chip in.

This is how we fight back. We either disappear into the night or we start to try to exert some influence over the club. If you've been wondering what you can do, this is a great start.

Better yet don’t go. Vote with your feet. Should boycott everything port Adelaide until change is made. They’ll change once it starts to effect the club financially

Little signs won’t do anything.

While I agree and i'll be doing the same for round 1 2023 onwards, Unless 20000 of us don't turn up, it's hard to put a big enough dent in a Showdown crowd for it to make the news as a low crowd.

At this point I'm of the opinion that a more visual protest will be more effective for this 1 game.

Don't worry, i'll be not only not attending next season, i'll be doing things like starting a facebook event along the lines of "Don't attend Round 1" in the lead up to next year to try and pull that crowd down even further.

Don't forget a petition, they're totally effective

I am part of an extended family of 10 that attend separately since the AO move, also have a large friendship base developed via my footy club involvement amongst other social interactions and I honestly only know 2 imbeciles who are happy clappers. Every single other person I know, Port or Crows, is all either of the basic opinion Hinkley has had his time, or they are a parochial supporter like me who've had a gutful and can't handle seeing the club sink to the insane depths it currently has.

So the concept that we are white noise just baffles me. We can't be just white noise. I sit there at games and listen to the silence, I feel the murmurs as we repeat the same trends of failure. Crowds aren't just down because of covid, they are down because there's zero hope, zero excitement, zero change. People are choosing not to go in droves and it is at a crisis point right now that will see us sink to extraordinary depths early in 2023 if we fail early. Worse still if we dont fail, crowds might remain ok, but there is a possibility Hinkley is extended, all long term hope is sucked out of us and the club effectively incites rioting and serious retaliation.

Hinkley has already wasted 2 rebuild cracks, and if he starts a 3rd and get's called 'brave' again, I'll ****in lose my marbles.

I'm in with this approach, as the club needs to hear us, grow some balls and make the correct decision before it is too late. So I will start working on a sign tomorrow.

I feel the same. The watercooler style work discussions are very telling, nobody supports him at this stage. You can feel the apathy in the crowd at games, like we're all just going through the motions. I am very confident that we're not a minority, and in fact we're a significant majority.

Taking a SACK KEN & KOCH placard or banner to the Showdown is probably one of the better strategies suggested thus far. It certainly beats letting the bastards beat you by handing in your Membership or supporting the opposition when we play. At least it will show Koch and Co that the proletariat is unhappy. Not sure if they still do the march from the Mall to AO but having a few banners in that procession would not hurt.

As it stands Koch and Co are either oblivious to or are ignoring a groundswell of dissatisfaction with the current Coaching regime. I do not have that much face to face contact with other Members these days but I can honestly say that among the Port supporters that I mix with I would struggle to find anyone who is satisfied with Hinkley.

As I posted previously that Choco for Baghdad placard held up at a Port match in 2006 got plenty of publicity so dozens of SACK KEN & KOCH banners are likely to do the same.

a former woodville supporting power fan told me to put my head in, and then when i logically gave him reasons why he should no longer be coach he sarcastically remarked bring back primus and laidley. man

I'm all for bringing banners to the game, but the most effective way would be to try and congregate on the hill and march up and down on the walkway in front of it. That would get the best exposure in my view if you had a significant number doing it.

agreed, a few people scattered around the oval won't work. everyone needs to congregate together and go to the hill or somewhere and stand as one. that way the tv coverage can't ignore it.

Commiserations Port fans. I know this has been a thorn in your side for some time and it has just been given another twist.
Eagles fans have some similar frustrations with certain aspect of how our club is run too(not so much the coach although there is some unrest there among some supporters) so thinking of ways to get your message across is important. I think most AFL clubs these days are entirely commercially focused and they believe fans are just the plebs that will hand over their $s no matter how much they are ignored or mistreated.
One of the defining Port Adelaide traits of recent year is the sing along of Never Tear us Apart. I imagine total silence during the next sing along might send a good message. It would certainly get the media talking which is probably what you need.

Anyway, just a thought. Good luck with it all.

Quoted for reference re AO allowing them

Yep, the key will be to not write anything offensive, and don't hold them over advertising signs, especially not the electronic ones.

Stickerman has led the way, "Sack Hinkley" is already a recognised term. Unless you want to target Koch specifically, that's a great way to go.

Pity we don't know the scoreboard attendant? Wouldn't that be a master stroke? ;)

You guys are perfectly front and centre!

Agreed that it needs to be a group of people together as opposed to a random sprinkle of scattered signs and banners. Obviously also needs to be in a camera shot position as well. At this point though, is it really going to change anyone's minds? It's pretty clear that Koch like many obnoxious free to air Australian TV personalities is stuck in his outdated and ego - driven ways. No amount of fan backlash will put his job under any major pressure, and the AFL are also lazy shits so they won't step in either.

Last night when I paraphrased what George Bush said on top of the pile of debris at ground zero that - the people who have done this miserable disservice to our club, will hear from us all very soon - this is exactly the sort of simple yet effective thing I was immediately thinking of.

But there will be other things to.

It doesn't matter if it changes their minds on the day. The Port Road sticker showed how much discussion this sort of thing can drum up. If we do nothing and say nothing, we'll definitely be ignored. This gives us a fighting chance and keeps it in the news.

Both Koch and Hinkley have shown that they don't like public pressure or criticism. They can email as many media identities as they like to curry favourable stories, but they can't shut us up.
