Saints Delisted

Zebraman on SS for those interested

The player I spoke to has just been running laps at Sandy..he told me he had been delisted yesterday and confirmed the names JOHNSON. HEYNEY.. CAHILL AND GAMBLE. I didn't get a chance to ask about Al Smith as he took off on another lap,,,he said he will nominate for the draft and see what happens

So say Heyne has a contract. And we choose to re-rookie him, but another club swoops - Do we then have to pay him out or?

If he was on more money than base wages we'd have to pay the difference - but I think he'd already be around that mark now. If another club rookied him before us (rather than national draft), that would be the greatest differential (but still only $20-30k, unlike the $200k North would fork out for Urquhart).

Mind you, this comment on SS puts a different light on it (to be honest, I was a bit disappointed that - as rumoured - they would hand out 2 year contracts so readily so it's good that this is not the case):

"Nick (and a couple of others) WAS a neighbour of mine. Told me he did NOT have a contract for 2012. Spoke to him on w/end and he said he knew "it was going to be tight". His manager has had some enquiries from several other AFL clubs over the last 6-8 weeks."

Sorry, but what's all the hype on Archer about?

Didn't think he was that great to be honest. Certainly no better than others who have been cut.

He's a 19YO tall forward with a fair bit of weight on him and a bit of an X factor.

His AFL first AFL outing wasnt that great. But neither was Nick Reiwoldt's.
Neither were a lot of tall forwards.
He's shown a bit in the VFL despite being pushed into the ruck ( 193cm? ) a bit too often.

You will probably find a lot of the young players are not that great, until suddenly one day they are.
For example Kurt Tippett had a lot of 5 possession games in his first year (where he played 19 games ).

I just get pissed off when we throw away players with potential while retaining/failing to find replacements for those who are rapidly running out ( Raph, Kosi ).

Dunno about hype.

But as with SS, I see a bit of (undeveloped) X factor.

Strong for his age and a long kick, yet got a bit of pace for a big guy.

Got stiffed by Lyon, who saw him as a backup ruckman. Stupid.

Adjusted to being played as a forward, then a ruckman, then a full back. Impressive for mine.

Still only 20yo (happy birthday Darch ).

I'm reading that the initial list.
Gamble, Cahill, Heyne, Smith, and Johnson are probably gone.
Archer is a seperate rumour.

But I could be getting it wrong.

The way i read it was:

Player running laps was delisted...also confirmed Heyne, Gamble, Johnson & Cahill were delisted. Didn't find out about Smith.

Who was running laps?

That's how I read it aswell, was a different player to 5 named other day. My guess Archer.

He has not improved much since then either

31st October.

Press Conference today, more likely to official announce assistant coaches but might also announce delistings. By way Luke Holmesby tweeted this:

"Arrived early at the Saints presser only to see Lenny Hayes doing run throughs on the oval at a decent pace. Good signs."

Think Will Johnson just revealed he has been delistedz. This is the retweet by Sandringham.

RT @willyjay38 "Training hurts Calves about to explode! Beach time 4 some recovery w/ Sandsy (SFC player) &Thommo (SFC Conditioning Coach)"

Why would he be with Sandringham conditioning staff if he was on Saints list still....

He played for sandy before being drafted.

I'll add my voice to the Archer advocates. Like what I see, and I think we've offloaded quite enough tall blokes for one year.

I think zebraman was saying 'player running laps' as in to keep him anonymous. As in he was one of the players he named as delisted. ie. one of Smith, Cahill, Heyne, Johnson etc.

Surely we have to hang on to Arch, what other tall kids do we have?

So did I, but there's (understandably) been alot of supposition.

On SS there is a report that Inside Football had the delistings without Archer (but also without Cahill, so a bit hard to believe).

Whilst it would be nice for the Saints to announce it now, maybe there are a couple of guys (like Archer) that need to wait until the Dawson, Peake and Ray signings are determined - one way or the other.

Interesting that InsideFooty didnt have Cahill on the list given it was InsideFooty that first tweeted the delistings (well one of their journos)

Squizzy is as happy as a Big Pig in shit. Darch has stayed on the main list (the other guys have been removed).

I note that Bakes, Mini and Rob Who are no longer retired!

Still think Smithy would have had a decent try out in many other clubs.
He did some really good tagging work, and could also rack up the posessions when given a chance.
May not have had room for him in the team with the likes of Baker, Jones, and Peake etc there already, but he seemed to have something to offer.
What was Jonesy doing at 21 years of age?

Good we've hung on to Darch though.
