good article.

Shows we are very keen to keep him.

Looks like Hampson will be on the way out to the GC unless Jacobs get an offer well above that which Carlton have given him.

I can't see how we could outbid Gold Coast's offer of nothing.

It's a tie between D.Motlop, Jeff Gartlett, Mitch Robinson and Lachlan Henderson for me.

Goal assists per game:

Motlop 0.6
Robinson 0.4
Garlett 0.4
Henderson 0.6

Frees against per game:

Motlop 0.6
Robinson 1.4
Garlett 0.5
Henderson 0.6

God knows how Carlton made the eight with so many footballers that blues4flag wouldn't consider trading for in their team.

Really? I can't be bothered looking up numerous posts/threads by Port supporters criticising Motlop but you and I both know there's a lot of them.

The stats don't mean anything. It's Motlop's attitude that's the issue. Like Fev, it's him first, team second. When he's on he is great to watch but if it's not going right for him, he sulks and chooses the extremely low percentage option. Hasn't been 'on' with any consistency for 2 years now.

lol, so first it was he is contracted and you will have to outbid all the other teams, now its you have to outbid us, as gc are taking hampson? ooook good luck

Heres a trade idea Jacobs to port Motlop to Freo Tarrant to Carlton. Tarrant goes home to melb Jacobs come to SA and Motlop goes to WA to be close to his son not sure if freo would go for it

I hear that Spangher wants out of WCE, Carton need a defender so how about

Motlop to WCE
Spangher to Carlton
Jacobs to Port

Hahaha, nice one wapower.

It is interesting to see Carlton fans eager to trade Jacobs away if he is any good; most fans don't want to hock off a young guy that has played only 15 games unless they are suspect or you can see the development ceiling already.

Its more a case of which ruckman are we going to lose through lack of Opportunity. Kruezer + Warnock seem to be seen as a lock for our 2 starting ruck positions which leaves Hampson/Jacobs in the reserves.

Jacobs is an excellent tap ruckman, one of the top 10 in the comp (Ranked 6th in Hitouts Per Game), he always gives 110% but he isn't the most mobile of ruckman around the ground although he flogged Pyke + Mumford last week (44 Hitouts to 39 combined, 15 possessions to 8/11).

Then there is hampson, the worst actual ruckman out of the 4 but easily the most athletic. He could be the best of the lot if he develops well, if he doesn't he may just be an average ruck who can kick a few goals once in a while. He currently averages 0.8 goals per game.

I'd perfer to keep Jacobs, I rate him highly but it seems as though one of these 2 will go and hampson is contracted so its more likely to be Jacobs. I'd feel a bit bad for him if he spent 2011 in the reserves, he would get a game anywhere else.

I need to not get myself banned when the guy I've been championing a trade for for weeks has a blinder :p If we can get this guy for a second rounder, we've done incredibly well. No reason why he can't be a Mumford/Jamar/Brogan-type No. 1 ruck for the next 10 years.

Freo get r*ped in that deal. And Carlton get r*ped in the Spangher deal someone else mentioned.

Freo get a potential 50-70 goal forward in their just opening premiership window who is still only 28 for a 30 year old full back who on his day is decent enough and wants to go home, he could pretty much go back for nothing.

I think you're massively underselling a fit Motlop and what he could bring to that forward line. Tarrant sures up the Blues backline for the next 2 years which has undoubtably been their achilies heel the last 2 years. The moves could strengthen each side in the right place to propel them to the top 4 next year, all the whilst we get a young solid ruckman to give Broge's the backup and support he needs.

No your massively overselling Motlop and underselling Tarrent.

The most goals Motlops ever kicked in a season is 57 and that was three years ago, and you reckon he can do that and more next year?

Tarrent was being talked up by a lot of media commentators as All Australian this year before he got injured.

Jacobs is 2 good to be traded away for Tarrant, it would be the mistake of the decade for us to lose a young promising ruckman for a guy that may be too injured to play a full season ever again.

Besides Trengrove who won't be traded I don't see anything you have that we would be interested in. I hope the GC come along and offer something higher then the pick 9 you offered last year for Hampson, because he will never fit in our side with Kruezer there.

Mate, I rate Motlop a lot higher than most on here seem to, but they're not going to trade someone who is good for someone who might come good. Not to mention that there's no way that they benefit from trading a key position full back with only depth players as replacements for a non-key forward in a forward line which already has a smaller forward division consisting of Ballantyne, Mayne, Fyfe, Walters and (if he's retained) Headland. Tarrant for Motlop would not help Freo at all. Plus Tarrant probably won't be around for long enough for Carltank to win a premiership, so it doesn't help them either.

Well that's good for us - we will keep Carlile, Chaplin, P Stewart, Boak, Gray, Hartlett, Pearce - all walk-up starts for your best 18.

Now go away.

If Jacobs wants to come home, I hope them Carlton fans realise that Port will be in control of the trade table (provided that we want him).

I just smh when I read about us needing to offer a calibre of Trengove for him. Personally I think an offer of Salter is enough.
