C'arn!
Hey player, we are a ridiculously rich club, but unfortunately have to adhere to a stupid salary cap. Come here for a small amount and we promise you a very well paid job when your contract is up. We can then spend that money on others in our salary cap.

Not saying this happened with Mitchell, but c'arn!
Clubs have been offering players "post-career opportunities" for a long time.

Didn't Carlton offer Chris Judd a job at Visy? How is that different?

It's not, it's not fair either.

Absolute gun.

Did the AFL ever talk about the salary cap implications of recruiting someone with the promise of a post-career coaching position? There's a loophole big enough to drive a truck through.

And in breaking news water is wet.

Go and have a look how many ex players go straight into a well paid coaching position. If you did you would find dozens of example at every club.

Superstar who was criminally underrated for most of his career.

Although he'll finish with WCE he'll be remembered as a Hawthorn legend in the same way Brereton is.

Onya Sammy! <3

Always sucks to say goodbye to a club legend. Been a gun for us and topped of with a Brownlow. Thanks Sammy!

One of the most consistent midfield players I have seen.
His 2006 to 2016 seasons rarely a bad game.
Had to win the VFL best and fairest award, the J. J. Liston Trophy to get a look in at AFL level and repaid Hawthorn for the faith they showed in him.
He showed its not always about a club getting the hyped up flashy top draft pick/player.
If you win the ball (and he won lots of it) and put in effort week after week you can have one hell of a career.

Fingers crossed all this speculation about him retiring was the media assuming the retiring eagle was going to be him. Would love to see him play on another year roving to Naitanui.
