had a kick rating of -10%? is that even a stat? if they're gonna cherry pick arbitrary stats to shit on an 18 year old at least use objective stats, not ones concocted in a magic formula.

in objective (real) stats walsh leads all rising stars in: contested possessions, uncontested possessions, effective disposals, clearances, time on ground, disposals per game and inside 50s.

Not a fan of cherry picking stats to put down first year players. Anyone with eyes knows that Walsh has been bloody good this year. Whether he wins the rising star I don't know but he'll be right up there.

Win it or not, Carlton have someone who's 18 and passes the eye test for being a 200+ game midfielder. OP also showed some great stats where it shows Walsh is in Elite company

Already a far better accumulator than Scully and is far more contested. Bad call.

I agree he doesn't have superstar qualities, but that's pretty standard Pick 1 stuff. You pick the sure thing.

Except he does.

People seem to equate 'superstar qualities' as having some kind of stand out trait like super burst speed, a booming 60m kick etc...something that really catches the eye.

Walsh's superstar quality is that he's extremely good at everything - from what i've seen of him so far at least. It does mean his highlights package isn't as good as someone like Rozee's, but when you watch a full game you realise Walsh is involved a lot and always doing things well and having an influence on the game.

Elite endurance
Seems to have elite footy IQ in knowing where to run
Accumulator of the ball
Good at both contested and uncontested possessions
Despite what the champion data says, watching Carlton games he seems to be a very good kick and handballer
Leadership qualities
Composed under pressure
I've seen him take numerous solid marks while under pressure

I love Stack but if you're going to be picky and exact on Walsh, then Stack is averaging 17.2 disposals not 20.

Walsh's turnover stats are in the ballpark of Dusty, Shuey, O'Meara, Harmes, Sloane.

Of course Walsh's turnover numbers are a lot higher than Stacks...Walsh gets more possessions, plays in a weaker team and most importantly, PLAYS MIDFIELD. He's in a lot of contested situations and also gets involved a lot forward of centre, where turnovers usually happen kicking to an outnumbered forward line or being forced to just kick long to the top of the square (which isn't a bad thing, but often will result in a turnover).

Whereas someone like Stack plays more lose across half back in a better team. At half back you wrack up a lot of uncontested possessions and have spare teammates around half back/wing to kick the ball to in a way that's easy to keep possession, unlike Walsh kicking to forwards.

Eh just realised this thread is a giant waste of time because OP just has a hard on for Stack and won't listen to reason.

He's not getting any back up from any other Richmond posters or anyone else in general.

It's amazing to think Walsh the prized number one draft pick is being compared to Stack the footy orphan nobody wanted.
Increadible pick-up by Richmond.
For the umpteenth time, Stack going undrafted had nothing to do with his ability.

Sam Walsh is a certainty to win rising star. Starting onballer who would get a game in any team. Clean, efficient and long term player. Rozee is a quality player and is a great future prospect. Stack has showed a few tricks off half back, curtailing his obvious over confidence is going to be tough for the tigers coaching staff.

Yes, he's averaging 17 possessions I think at over 80% efficiency. No other first year playa comes close to that efficiency.

More than half of his disposals are handballs, and he's playing at half back. His disposal efficiency is pretty standard for his role, even for a first year player.

Intersting article saying Champion Data has Sydney Stack, Connor Rozee and Bailey Smith ranked above Sam Walsh for Rising Star Award. https://m.afl.com.au/news/2019-06-2...ar-stats-say-gun-blue-is-not-in-the-top-three

"EARLY in the season, it seemed a fait accompli the No.1 draftee from last year, Sam Walsh, was destined to win the NAB AFL Rising Star Award. Now, the stats reveal he might not deserve to finish on the podium.

That's the verdict from Champion Data, which has a surprise name in the top three, ahead of the ultra-impressive Blue."

Richmond Supporter makes thread pushing for Sydney Stack rising star cos they know that's the only hope of winning anything meaningful this year #shockhorror

Not at all, just asking some pertinent questions. Walsh is a good accumulator but won't be as good as Cripps imo. Rozee is better imo and in a lot of other peoples opinion.
