Scott Pendlebury - Standing in the game?

Inspired basketball and personal references from draftees from 2013 onwards. It's because becoming him is viewed as easily achievable (by the majority of people)

Slows down time too much for my liking, which is cheating. At least Hird only injected a few times. More disgraceful than Hird IMO.

He's just so damn reliable. Seems to always make the right decision, with ball in hand. Just about every player out there would kill to have a career like his. I'd say TV commentary would be the main reason someone would call him over rated etc - they say ridiculous things about the 'stars' of the game, making out that everything they do is on some sort of genius level and this turns people against the player, when they should be turning against the commentary.

Has a basketball background.
Funny.

But he with Patty Mills is a about real a definition of a sliding doors moment as you can get.

What if Pendles had go on with his basketball career; and where would Paddy Mills have ended up? NBA? NBL? Or some backwater European team?

Neither have cause to complain how it ended up.

Was Pendles passing up Basketball an opportunity opened for Patty to play for the national team ?

Sliding doors moments ( Not barretts poor excuse of his idea of sliding doors) really do your head in if you think about them too much.

Both are credible and well liked athletes. Probably two of my faves , up there with Cahill, Hewitt & Sally Pearson as fave aussie athletes. Giddey already moving up on that group!

I'd have him ahead of Judd on OP's list to be honest, Judd made more of an impact early on in their respective careers but you cant deny that Pendlebury has been better for longer. The absolute model of consistency whilst still having his own high degree of magic that that descriptor sells short. I think he's someone who's career will only be judged as highly as it should be with the benefit of hindsight

The AIS basketball spot that Pendles gave up to concentrate on footy was given to Mills iirc.

Needed to learn to take it to a new level when needed.
This is big for me, but I honestly don't believe he's capable of that and this is why I say good player. His team wins or loses and he'll be consistent whatever the outcome, so he's no difference maker.

Like someone else said, it's his longevity and consistency that will hold him in good stead, but I need more than that.

Even though he plays for Collingwood you can not help but admire him.

Absolutely one of the best players this century, reminds me in playing style to Simon Black, both seem to create time on the ball and are silky smooth users of the footy.

Man, what is it with the Richmond supporters in this thread. Guessing 2018 still hurts them
What’s quite sad is you’ve got a Carlton supporter comparing him to Doull (you can’t get a higher compliment from a Carlton supporter), multiple Cats supporters comparing him to Selwood, and Lions supporters comparing him to Black. All these guys amongst the best in their club’s history. Then you’ve got some Richmond supporters posting who seem to like licking lampposts.

I've said it before I put everything I had in my wallet on Collingwood that night as soon as I heard Astbury was in hospital with the flu (which was $188), poor guy had already infected everyone else so the loss was inevetitable in my opinion. All I could do was watch Pendlebury lead Collingwood to winning what should've been our flag, and then that interstate team WCE won the flag at the MCG, which was great because they showed all the other interstate teams that you can win the flag at the MCG against a red hot Collingwood!

Pendlebury is a good player.

Plus, you can't excuse them for having zero interest in footy during Pendlebury's prime years of 2010 to 2013, so they wouldn't have seen him play at his absolute peak.
The chip on the shoulder is purely because there is a thread about another champion of the modern era that is not Martin. In fact this is threatening to be the new central GOAT contender (or modern era champion) thread to discuss and compare different players. Even after success for the Tigers fans, that chip and insecurity exists. Bizarre.
