Scott Pendlebury - Standing in the game?

The chip on the shoulder is purely because there is a thread about another champion of the modern era that is not Martin. In fact this is threatening to be the new central GOAT contender (or modern era champion) thread to discuss and compare different players. Even after success for the Tigers fans, that chip and insecurity exists. Bizarre.
Well at least we are talking about a player who is closer to GOAT status than Martin in this thread (albeit he's circa 40ish - I'm not deluded).

The game is nearing zero contact, and players are starting to defend space - much like basketball. I’m not surprised Pendles is aging well under this climate. Ablett Jr would’ve thrived. IMO Gaz should’ve won 5 Brownlows.
If he came along in this area he’d win 7-8.

Collingwood supporters have never been any different. Faced with anything they don't like seeing, reading, or hearing, just switch into abuse the messenger mode.

I will never forget the harrowing memories of the day I went to a VFL Park match between Collingwood and Geelong to barrack for my bet. The bet was Collingwood to lead at half time, Geelong to win. So there I was lowering myself to loudly supporting Tony Shaw and P Daicos and probably Shane Morwood or some campaigner in the first half. And didn't those hundreds of Collingwood supporters in the immediate vicinity approve of me cheering for my bet in the first half. But when I came back in the second half still supporting my bet, this time by cheering on G Ablett Snr, Paul Couch and probably Gary Malarkey or some campaigner, all of a sudden hundreds of impecunious, toothless, gutter mouthed, vile black and white fawners turned on me in no uncertain terms, accusing me of all sorts. "Traitor" was one particularly unfair accusation they made. But the one that has stuck in my mind to this very day, and that I will never ever get over, was being accused by them of being a Geelong supporter. You can never unhear things that nasty, it sticks with you forever. What a disgraceful accusation to make to a gentleman who is doing no more than wanting to maximise his return on a short term, high risk investment.

So despite landing that brilliantly conceived bet, lowlife Collingwood supporters were even able to turn what should have been the second most joyful day of my life after the day my divorce became final, into a reminder of just how low humanity can sink. And now DopeMaster is here to bring a shining modern example to us. :)
That’s more like it! 3.5 stars out of 5. Could’ve earned an extra half star by weaving in some statistical analysis, but a step up from your last effort no doubt.

The most pleasing part of the story was how Collingwood supporters ruined your magical day ;)

“Will be remembered for his longevity “

Some people are having a lend in here with that comment

Space creator when he has the ball. Ever reliable disposal. More consistent than any other player at an extremely high level.

Selwood I’d suggest was a better leader. Wouldn’t say a better player over their careers.

Though we're likely to see this fellow running around in the AFL for another couple of seasons, I'd like to know where he is rated amongst the best players of his generation (for argument's sake, let's use players who debuted post 2000).

His CV so far:
Approaching 400 games
Collingwood Captain 9 years (2014 to 2022)
AFLCA Coaches Award best finishes: 1st (2013), 7th (2011), 9th (2012, 2015)
AFLPA MVP best finishes: 2nd (2011), 3rd (2010), 4th (2013), 6th 2014)
Brownlow Medal best finishes: Eq. 4th (2010, 2011), Eq. 6th (2013)
2010 Norm Smith Medal
5 x Collingwood Best and Fairest (14 x Top 3)
6 x All-Australian (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2019). Squad another 4 occasions.

I reckon there's a clear Top 3 since the turn of the century:
1. GAJ
2. Franklin
3. Judd

Pendlebury in the next rung, but has the potential to be considered on the same rung as Judd (and therefore ahead of the likes of Selwood, N. Riewoldt, Martin, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Hodge) depending on what else he can achieve between now and the end of his career.
His basketball background helped him. A good honest mid with longevity but doesn't come close to Dustin Martin or Ablett jnr.

You know GAJ only retired 3 years ago? They are from the same "area"

He's not ahead of Martin, everyone knows that .

Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin, Martin.

You and your crew just don't shut up!
Have to be at an age where someone is easily infatuated. You aren't a teenager but you must be young enough to have missed plenty of football because all it is from you is Dustin Martin.
