Well if you choose to play for bendigo it would make sense to move to and play footy in bendigo. How many would train with the gold during the week? What benefit is there when not playing for gold playing for Stanhope. Surely it is better for local players to play for the gold rather than go over to the wafl safe or Melbourne to play vfl.

It appears though that the most important factor to the gold succeeding is the support of the community and getting the best local talent to play and they have neither so the pin should be pulled and better use the money to support local footy

What detrimental effect has the Pioneer's relative lack of success had on the VFL sides (Diggers, Gold) in the Bendigo region?

It seems like the Pios were good 10 years ago and have been abysmal ever since.

Is it the same problem with the Pios, in that they don't feel connected to one ground or another? Coaching? Local talent?

I don't mean to turn this into a dig at the Pios or Gold but I can't help but feel the fate of both elite programs being very ordinary for the last decade is linked and no coincidence.

How's Brodie FILO traveling this year? Played against him last year in central Murray and kicked 6 against us in a final. Still dangerous?
Brodies very dangerous! Such a quick kid, there was a video of him taking on 3 and snapping it from 45

Not sure if you everyone has heard but Mick McGuane has signed on for another year at Keilor.
That ended any hope of Castlemaine luring him to Camp Reserve

Wouldn't surprise me if flat don't finalize their appointment until it is decided whether the Gold will be playing VFL again next season

According to the Bendigo Advertiser the BFNL are having tentative discussions with Echuca about returning to the League.

Does anyone know if the have done the same with Rochester? Surely it would be more logical to start with the closer GVFL club which always recruits heavily from BFNL clubs.

Rochester won't return to the BFL.

Accepting what you say at face value, then it doesn't make a lot of sense for the BFNL to go after Echuca with all other country clubs (Kyneton, Castlemaine & Maryborough) well to the south of Greater Bendigo/Eaglehawk.

As per my past comments, I think the BFNL should be having their 'informal chats' with Sunbury or even Seymour.

Really can't see Rochy moving back. Geographically, it might make sense, but the club is doing really well. The seniors have played finals 7 of the past 10 seasons, including a flag and it's solid financially. It would be a shame not to play Echuca twice a year, but I'm sure they'd play a pre-season game or something. Feel for the Echuca players if they move though, a lot of traveling involved for them.

May work in favour of club's like Rochy, United, Lockinginton etc should they (the players) not want to endorse the move

Note the many failed attempts by the Ballarat League to recruit Gisborne.

If the players don't support a committee's decision to change leagues it ain't going to happen.

any1 keen to tip 5th spot I fancy gissy to get in and Sth. to tumble basically becoz I don't feel bloods have the cattle 2 beat hawks not at Canterbury Park, anyway

If South was to cause an Upset, when was the last time Gisborne missed a finals series.

Possibly 2001?

Square were premiers, Sandhurst runners up, Kangaroo Flat - then coached by Derrick Filo made the prelim.

I think Eaglehawk and South made up the 5 that year.

Gisborne sneak in, are they any chance of going all the way?

WOULD be the 1st to win from an elim. final, though, since 2001 Walshy took the Square to the flag playing all 4 weeks of the finals Top effort then and would need another top effort to replicate that feat
Hurst mite be better placed to go all the way

Square won the last 7 games to make the finals that year making an even better effort.
