It's not a riddle. It's clearly explained in the OP of the Rising Stars thread that it is based on the Baz Stats series, which is clearly explained in the OP of that thread that players are compared against the average and standard deviation of their position and compared against their opponent's stat line as measured against the average and standard deviation of their position. I don't expect people to understand the maths but the premise of offense v defense is pretty simple.

The problem with the model is that you are not observing the artistry of individuals.

It is flawed and I understand the flaws however there's a blind reliance on counting stats that ignores when a back pocket gets a stats boost because they're shifted to ruck for a game. The nerd in me wants to refine things further but the time investment required is not worth the result when my results contain the same flaws as the counting stats.

And mate, got moved to centre wing this week and racked up 23 possies, 3 marks, a goal and a few tackles I think. Was pretty red hot and our squad moved to 5-0. TedDougChris is pushing all the right buttons at the moment.
