Proper Gander I LOVE pomegranates, it’s a fruit tree I really regret not putting in straight away. I’m going to start looking for an established one that someone doesn't want in winter.

I understand that they take years and years to get from seedling to producing fruit, so you will have to be patient with a newborn. But the trees are really big and if you can get a hold of a decent healthy graft tree, it should give fruit the next season.

If you can’t find one we can take a chainsaw to mine because I’m dead certain it’s big enough for both of us

Get one anyway. Put it on a pot on the roof or something. Leaves are great, but if you like Thai curry and make your own paste, the skin of the fruit is a non-negotiable in the curry paste.

Also while it is otherwise a weirdly dry and inedible fruit, it is the best thing to slice and put in a gin and tonic
