I read this as a fact first. Then after reading the dad joke comment, I went back and read it again. I didn't get it. It was only after re-reading it closely for a third time that I was able to piece it together.

A lot of the older guys were pretty vocal they were cheating. I defended them. Assumed they were just better at it and the murmurs were just jealousy. When they were caught I felt stupid.
It all made sense in hindsight.
They continually picked up the best and most in demand juniors every year in what was later dubbed CHQ book recruitment.

Semi related antidote. Peter O'Sullivan the storm recruitment boss of that era was once in my shout we were getting a pint, he was getting a bottle of red. Drinking straight from the bottle.

If I cared about the NRL, and I supported any other team, I would perennially hate the Storm, both for their cheating and their continued success. I absolutely get the general hatred from some of the Sydney-centric media people and NRL supporters writ large.

Depends on the pie. Just all I know is if its one of these party combo packs of little party pies and sausage rolls, I gravitate to having more of the sausage rolls
