There are a few teams that would/ could mix it with the MPNFL clubs but most would get absolutely smashed week after week.

Dingley crossed from the MPNFL winless and proceeded to play in a GF in SFL 2nd Div in our first year. We did recruit well when we crossed but if we had the GF team the previous year in the MPNFL we would have won no more that 3 games.

What we cannot believe is the lack of support for the other clubs. Our supporters follow our team to all away games regardless of ladder position. You could count on 2 hands how many supporters travel with the Gut Runners (St.Pauls) Tooronga Malvern, StKilda City, Mordialloc etc. What is the point of paying so much to players when the supporters of these clubs are so apathetic?

It's almost as bad as paying so much to players when the players are so apathetic???:D

Re: SFL 2010 Division 1 Thread

You might be right about a few players.

What you need to understand is that Dingley have such a huge number of kids coming through from the "Top of the Table" Colts down. We wont have to spend big money on no name or never was recruits.

The Clubs with no support are those that will always struggle to attract players unless they drag out the cheque book again. Sooner or later, the funds will dry up!

so these top of the table colts are going to play for no money wake up ,there is a new world out there its called MONEY TALKS OR COLTS WALK

Re: SFL 2010 Division 1 Thread

As someone who watches a lot of footy from all comps I would say that EFL Div 2 is a fair way ahead of SFL div 2. Its true that Chelsea Heights, St Kilda City and St Pauls would be competitive in any comp (EFL Div 1 included) however it falls away pretty quickly from there. As far as the WRFL goes the top Div 1 sides are very competitive and the standard would be very similar to the SFL with maybe a little more depth. The SFL downsides include crowd numbers (probably the lowest of any comp).
Get along to The Heatherton v Dingley game on Saturday and you will see a good example of the SFL community supporting footy!

One game yep that proof we are ok.....Lets forget about our top Div1 teams that dont have many supporters...

Re: SFL 2010 Division 1 Thread

St Kilda City is the only 'top' team that doesnt have a big supporter base. Each of the other top 6 clubs do.

On what grounds do you make this call? Members,????

Your crowd at our game 2 weeks ago was terrible , even the anzac crowd was terrible, from all reports around the league the highest crowd seen or spoken about this year was our game at home versus Chelsea Heights.

Also the crowd at St Pauls was by far there biggest of the year when we played them.

Another fact recorded by SFL is finals involving StKilda City are by far the highest attended games.

No doubt our parking restrictions and ground access arent great , and also week in week out our numbers fluctuate, but to say we have are the only top team to have small supporter base is crap.

No doubt our supporters tend to go to the games that are against better teams or finals etc, etc.

Then again, I shouldnt have mentioned Chelt in this response because you are not a top team!

When we play Chelsea Heights home or away or St Pauls home or away
the crowds are huge , apart from that most crowds are average

maybe superfreak was able to count the numbers from one of the cameras they had on that very frightened individual

Why would they be filming? - Don't know much about the league but from what's posted on here Cheltenham are a bunch of skirt wearing pea-hearts. Slightly better than Dingley though.

Can anyone care to explain how Mordi knocked off Chelsea Heights? CH looked like going through undefeated this year.... Would be great for the competition if Chelsea could win their first Div1 flag. :)

In no way was I having a crack at you or your club mate, but thanks for over reacting and having a good dig at mine!

I worded my reply poorly. What I meant to say was that compared to the other top clubs, City's supporter base is the smallest. That is proven by our canteen, bar and gate takings in games we have played City at home compared with the other clubs (Springy, T/M and Heatherton are the only ones worse in that respect). And from speaking to other clubs, they report the same thing. There is nothing wrong with that, someone has to be the smallest, just as someone has to be the biggest!

I agree that your home crowds are quite good and are very supportive of your club. I did hear about the size of the crowd vs Chelsea Hts and heard it was huge. Pity you couldn't cash in on it due to your lack of ability to take money at the gate as it would have been a great earner for the club.

Your finals crowds are the biggest as you are playing in the biggest games. If you happen to play in a 1st Semi or somehow even a Elimination Final this year, I suggest that would change. You could put T/M v Heatherton on GF day and it will draw just as big of a crowd as City vs. whoever! People attend the big games in good numbers no matter who is playing!

Yeah, you are right in regards to our crowds this year, they aren't what they have been over the past 5-6 years. Not sure what that is down to but we have noticed a bit of a drop off. Maybe it has something to do with they way the team is playing or the ANZAC theme becoming stale, how knows. One thing is for sure though, the ones that do turn up give great support to the players and the club.
In fairness, the weather against City two weeks ago kept a lot of people away. 12 degrees, rain, wind....not the ideal conditions when you can sit on the couch and watch footy in the warmth on TV. Couple that with the function we had that night at Riva, and some people decided that they would miss the game instead of making two trips into St Kilda on the one day.

Sorry for the misunderstanding mate and I will make sure I word things better in the future. Now you can untwist those undies!

Now as for your comment/s ownthemoment...no cameras on anyone other than the game which we film each week. Not sure where you are getting your info from but its clearly wrong.
Best advised that you stick to kicking goals and taking marks rather than taking cheap shots on an internet forum. Its a dead issue and your continuous efforts to re-raise it doesn't do anyone any good (yourself, or your club included).

And now back to the Footy....:D Go City im with you guys this year

The fact that it was mentioned St Pauls have a small support base is a joke.

I am sure Superfreak can attest to our turnouts to Chelt games, as to can Back2back with our visits to the penut farm.

In return when they come to Dogland, they usually have a pretty solid supporter base.

If the only thing Dingley can hang their hat on is crowd numbers, then good on them.......however it's something that should be expected from an inbred country town ;)

Was it a joke or just a coincidence that the Catholic Church Football Team from Bentleigh is nick named The Doggies???

No drama , its a healthy discussion, theres so many variables weather fixture ladder position etc;etc, the facts are we will play in front of the 4 biggest crowds this year chelseaheights & stpauls H/A , id suggest the Chelsea Away game will be a monster crowd. Also our parking situation & our social facility dont encourage people to follow our games and unfortunately its in the hands of the council!!!!!!

True supporters travel to all games. Fair Weather Supporters (yours!!) pick and choose.

Ok whilst you are on top but when the money runs out, and you dont participate in any top of the table clashes, the silence at all of your games will be deafening!!!

Tips for Round 12

Chelsea Heights to beat Tooronga by plenty - too big, too strong.
East Brighton to beat Mordialloc by 5 points - close game under tough conditions at Hurlingham Park
St. Pauls to beat Cheltenham by 4 goals - closer game than what people may think. Doggies might be a bit quick.
Dingley to beat Heatherton by 2 goals - a win to the dingoes last week may just give them a bit of confidence.
St. Kilda to beat Springvale by plenty - too big, too strong (as per chelsea)

A couple of very intersting matches this week. Last hope for chelt to stay in finals contention, so big game for them.

In the mid 2000's when were on the bottom/2nd division we had more supporters than we have now, the crowds have dropped enormously at all levels of local footy over the last 10 years, I can guarantee you first hand , success doesnt mean you get more support.

Chelsea Heights
Mordi
St Pauls
Dingley
City

How is Martello holding up at Mordi. Looked like the game had gone passed him a couple of years back...
