Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

not over the line yet they still have to agree to a trade

Yes, settle down most people. I'm not happy about obtaining a 27-yo who missed several games in the immediate past season with a dicey knee. In my opinion we are becoming desperate if we proceed with this deal.

We have too many injured or carriers of such on our list. There is no future in playing players favoring a limb or joint.

If this deal proceeds it means our policy of building our team around youth is pushed aside.

And don't get me wrong I am a long time admirer of the Burgoyne brothers. Shawn is a brilliant footballer but so are premiership players Croady, Williams, and Youngy, all of whom missed most of '09 just like Shawn ... think carefully Clarko and Pelchin.

*bookmarked* for I told you so in '10.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Christ I hope this rumour about Jordan isnt true. Apart from having egg on my face (from what I had been told) Ill be a sadder than most on here :(

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Cannot believe some of teh comments on here.

If the Hawks offer pick 9 for Burger then we are paying over the odds.
Throwing in players like Dowler, Thorpe and Ladson is absolutly stupid.

If we trade Lewis for Burger that i would expect a 2nd round pick as a sweatner. Burger is 27 asking big bucks and is not a key position player.

Pick 9 could be another Cyril , think about it !!!!!!

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

watson is an essendon person at heart, so his rumour file would be no more than muck raking. I suppose he also said that Lovett is going to land Dean Cox to Essendon? two weeks from now all we be revealed by the HFC

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Watson just pushed Dermie on SEN saying he heard Lewis was on offer and Dermie said he'd heard they won't be trading Lewis. Watson kept pushing saying you've already got Tuck and Kennedy so Lewis is surplus being an inside mid and Dermie said well SB is an inside mid anyway, and that's who we're trading for. Dermie said Lewis is loved around the place like a big tough brother to younger blokes and that Hawthorn are happy with Lewis and think he's delivered on their investment.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Just to put the drafting rumour mill into perspective I was told by the producer of a radio station that they get 100+ rumours submitted by the public each day. Well, not rumours but tip offs. Who says Big Footy doesn't have reach?!

Lewis isn't going anywhere.

Burger with the lot please.

Congrats Hawks and Pelchin for enticing Shaun Burgoyne to choose Hawthorn over other clubs for less money.

Well done to "Noosa" for sticking fat with me.:thumbsu:

A big day for our club.:thumbsu:

Burgoyne Sewell Mitchell Hodge Bateman Osborne Rioli and Lewis now provides us with an elite 8 player on ball rotation in the AFL.:thumbsu:

My prediction is as follows.

Port receive
Pick 9 and Mitch Thorp.
Kangas receive
pick 25 and Jarryd Morton.

Hawks receive Josh Gibson and Shaun Burgoyne.

I have been told there is another player the Hawks are working hard at behind the scenes to help our backline further.

Re: Shaun Burgoyne Thread

Pick 9 plus Dowler? That is shooting ourselves in the foot. I here they want 9 + Lewis. That's a joke too.

Pick 9 on it's own should be enough and is fair.

Pick 9 + Lewis is just preposterous.

A fit Shaun Burgoyne would be wonderful for Hawthorn, as would Gibson, but losing Lewis to get Burgoyne? That's just swapping one soldier for another with a dodgy knee.

Surely Lewis won't be going anywhere.

Re: Shaun Burgoyne Thread

Well, that will be the negotiation, and I think Hawthorn will eventually have to part with more than just pick 9.

If Port consider pick 9 on its own to be patently unsatisfactory, they may try to convince Burgoyne to go to another club.

Port won't want to lose Burgoyne for nothing. Burgoyne won't want to go in the draft. Hawthorn won't want to miss out on Burgoyne for the sake of hanging onto their second-rounder.

If you conclude that "Port will have to take what Hawthorn offer or get nothing", then why even offer pick 9?

Clearly, there's an understanding that for Port to trade Burgoyne to Hawthorn with a minimum of fuss, a decent offer will need to be tabled. Even with Burgoyne nominating Hawthorn, I don't reckon pick 9 on its own meets that threshold. Picks 9 and 25 is closer to the mark. Maybe pick 9 and Dowler?

You make a lot of assumptions based on "your feelings".
Pick 9 is more than enough.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

awesome news, hopefully we dont get bent over to much but i doubt that with pelch, get it done!

Any idea who this might be?

Looking pretty good if we can keep a bit of fitness out there!!!

Gary Shadforth will be most disappointed with you LP. Gaz, I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't pick up on Youngy's exclusion here.

We missed Youngy as much as anyone this year...

Throw Lewis and Young into that group, and looks very nice indeed.

Re: Shaun Burgoyne Thread

We're chasing burgoyne at the right time - he's just had a crap season which means his price goes down.

Forget his form in previous seasons - this is a guy that could only get on the park for 10 games and didn't do particularly well in any. That is his current formline - demanding more than pick 9 for that is ridiculous. His potential is high but at his age, you can't really argue with confidence that he'll reach his potential again.

So Port - just back up the truck a bit and look at what you're dealing with here. This isn't anything like West Coast trading Judd after a gutsy, courageous finals series where he almost got them over the line in a close interstate final playing on one leg in the goal square. We are not Carlton, who will move heaven and earth to get a player at his absolute peak to fix all our list problems.

Hawthorn has a strong list - SB is a top up, we'll be treating the trade this way.

Re: Shaun Burgoyne Thread

if we are still leaking goals next year and are forced to use roughead at chb(this should not be ruled out imo), keeping dowler is a must.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

And lets just hope Port learnt from letting Stevens go for nothing !

I believe you meant to say --

"Let's hope our Hawks staff learnt from Port letting Nick Stevens go for nothing"

Port will do it again, the principle of the matter is the issue here, either Port gets what we reckon is fair and to our liking, or he goes to another club (not of Shaun's choosing) in the National or Pre-Season Drafts.

Remember, the Hawks can't get him in either draft, Port has a selection before them in both drafts.

The Hawks people know this, enough of them have previously been at Port.

You honestly think Port would use pick 8 on Shaun Burgoyne? They'd have to be bloody stupid. He doesn't want to be there.

Re: Shaun Burgoyne Thread

Choco will use Brock McLean for pick 11 as his Landmark, From there he will look back every 5 mins to see if the option for Port is Floating, Sinking or Drifting...

Sorry guys, But Pick Nine only is not acceptable for an All Australian full stop!

Re: Lewis for Burgoyne? I'll bloody spew up!!

Too much to give up. How bout no Pelch? 9 & Lewis for Burgs and Chaplin I would take but that ain't gonna happen so #3 stays where he belongs....

McLean is 23, and healthy

Burgoyne 27, and just missed most of a season, and had knee surgery

If anything, McLean makes Pick 9 by itself look sound.
