AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
360 degree shift would mean we all ended up exactly where we started. FYI.
Stay in school, kids.
Don't do drugs.
Perhaps they're doing this deal with the Blues so that they ensure they can get Houli in the PSD and therefore ensure they get both guys and keep the picks they want.
RFC wouldn't be able to get both Grigg & Houli through the draft.
Not saying I agree but it could be the thinking.
This is probably their thinking. Essendon have pretty much said fine go in the pre-season draft and Carlton are still saying 2nd round for Grigg so if Richmond really want both and keep their 2nd round pick this is the way to do it.
Its a win-win IMO. Grigg will be 22 for Richmond in a position they lack in, Collins will be 22 for Carlton in a position we lack in.
The thing is;
- Grigg doesn't want to be at the Blues.
- Grigg wants to be at Richmond.
So, why should Richmond have to have an even trade? Why would you keep a player at your club who doesn't want to be there? Grigg's uncontracted, right? So what's stopping him from going in the draft or the PSD and Carlton getting nothing in return?
It is SIMPLE maths
Richmond wants 2 players (Grigg and Houli)
Richmond has 1 PSD pick (another club would pick either player in the PSD if available, and you couldn't convince either to walk into the PSD knowing they wouldn't be picked up until the 2nd rd)
To get BOTH players they will need to TRADE for 1 and get one in the PSD
Essendon are demanding a 2nd rd pick for Houli (deal won't get done) and Carlton are asking for a fringe player, thus a trade for Grigg will be done while Houli will go through to the PSD .............
That said, the deal hasn't been confirmed so who knows what it will actually look like in the end ........... Just realise this, YOU WONT GET BOTH HOULI AND GRIGG IN THE PSD, THUS WILL NEED TO TRADE FOR ONE.
It isn't rocket science kids ...............
The simple math i see in that is....
2 players want to come to richmond
richmond have pick two in the PSD
Richmond go into the PSD with two picks
They take one with the 1st pick
They take the other with their second pick
If other clubs let a player like Bradshaw slip to pick 5 in PSD so he would get to his club of choice - and people let Collingwood take Ball at pick 29 - then why would they not do the same for Houli & Grigg?
Richmond should be playing this angle like crazy

How about we sit Essendon and Carlton in a room at 1.59pm on monday, with a pen each and say first to sign gets a 3rd rounder, the other simple gets nothing.
At worst we still get a good player for free, despite missing out on the other.
