Showdown at Adelaide Oval?

Your case history favored the Crows and Port using Adelaide as a fly-in / fly-out base ....moreso than the vics, who have now seen 12 McDonalds closed and a dreadful Meat Manufacture outbreak

But the numbers .... 6-8 cases a day in Vic, is still 0.00000133% probability of infection in Vic

There was minimal risk to Sth Australians ......it was a dumb decision by the Govt full stop, motivated by politics
There is minimal risk of catching it here because of good decisions made by the Government.

Did you read the press release by SA Health as to why there was no FIFO? It's hard to argue with it, unless you think football is more important that the jobs of a million people

feenix67 so if the SA Govt actually looked ahead .....the SA Teams couldn't have played a showdown and then fly out & back from the 18th of June ......but you guys can go to gyms, which are the biggest hotspots for any disease ....Cinemas, restaurants .....gee those smorgasboard outlets look mighty safe, no-one would dare cough on any food

Gyms aren't the biggest hotspot for any disease...wet markets, planes, nightclubs and child care centres are!

Over reaction there .....the Eastern Seaboard was more affected due to majority of International Visitors travellers coming back thru there .....disembark at International Airports and find their way to Adelaide

So SA was always least likely to be affected, once you closed the borders .....nothing about good decisions by the SA Govt ....when was the last time any SA Govt made a good decision

Even look at American stats .....all the inland states are the least affected .....in fact minimal

You obviously don't go to the same Gyms I do .....I was referring to what's been opened up

Have nightclubs been re-opened, or did I miss something ......and how many wet markets do you have Trader ?

Sorry, it was hard to know you were talking about what's been opened up when you didn't say that!
But I did hear there are a couple of wet markets open again in China. They've kept their gyms closed thankfully ;)

Can't see 1st game here happening. Surprised we have been 'allowed' to stay and not go to hub.

If we have a game here, what happens with round 3? Travel to Vic then have to quarantine after? Delay the season for 2 weeks?

Can't see the practicable alternative to the northern hub.

The only genuinely practicable alternative to the Northern hub is having one in Sydney - no border issues between NSW & Vic. Qld is a short sighted decision

Yes ...but none in Adelaide

My point with a lot of the hysterics about Covid19 .....is it's exaggerated of late, the Govt had to scare the begeesus out of the population to get compliance from a free thinking society .....but that makes re-opening harder because of the fear of going too early

The Crows flying in/out was simply such a low risk .....but Adelaide being an older demographic, meant the fear factor is higher in the population of Adelaide

Sooo...you're suggesting that closing borders wasn't a good idea and had no impact?

Wow, just wow!

I'm not a Lib voter, but I'd think the decision to follow the advice of SA Health has proven to be a bloody fantastic one.

I never said that ...read my earlier post

If you take your conspiracy theory glasses off and do a risk benefit analysis on allowing the FIFO, can you let me know what the benefit would have been, other than for about 100 football players and staff?

On a state basis, the impact of not allowing FIFO was insignificant, so why add another unnecessary risk when there is no benefit to the wider population?

You do realise that the relaxing of restrictions here is a direct result of maintaining closed borders, right? We dont have community transmission here, we had the highest per capita testing of any state during March/April when things were going to shit, so the chances of an unidentified case are low, hence our ability to ease lockdown. Having a FIFO situation hampers our ability to do that without risking an outbreak.

I mean, it's pretty ****ing obvious.

What a load of bullshit - refer to WA who have exactly the same stance as us.

Nearly all state borders are down or will be in the next couple of weeks .....let me tell you why

International Borders will stay closed for another 12 months min ......opening state borders will do this economy an enormous favor

1. Australian Tourism will get a massive legup, because all tourism will be within Australia
2. Airlines will be up and offering cheap fares to tourist locations
3. More job reinstatement

So Sth Aust doesn't need any of these benefits .....of course they do ....Sth Aust Borders will re-open, reinforcing the dumb decision on the Crows FIFO

Put your demographic figures up Sth Aust v NSW and Vic .....that's the reference I was making

As I've said ....moot point, you'll open the borders soon anyway, for economic benefits .....again reinforcing my POV

Opening borders in the future doesn't reinforce your POV at all, it actually reinforces the position our Govt has taken. That's like predicting a Mars colony and then saying I told you so when it happens in 200 years time lol.

You're a funny man :drunk: but Im out.

Like our predictions that Mackay would get dropped.

200 games later we were right!:p

All state borders wont open until Vic get a handle on this thing, they still have community transmission and are continually putting out spot fires. And Guess where the AFL want to play most of the football. You say the risk is minimal but it is a risk.
If you had 10 revolvers with 1 bullet in it and Gill said I'll give you footy back if you pick one and point it at your nanna's head and pull the trigger, would you do it? come on the risk is minimal.
You don't know who has come into contact with who, while there is transmission you shut down the modes of transmission, minimal risk or not.

the risk as I outlined is 0.0000013% .....i have a better chance of winning the Lotto

Except you don't win lotto, Your Nanna Dies. And somebody wins lotto every week.
Then tell your Nanna not to catch a train .....no hypocrisy here in arguments against the Crows FOFO .....of course not, it's all political

Actually, you are about 5 times more likely to catch COVID-19 (1:1.5m) than winning lotto (1:8m)...but there is some actual potential gain from Lotto, so the investment is a better one
